vivaldi (and chromium) connects to wrong URL (FF does it right)
-
vivaldi converts for some unknown reason the following URL if you click it in siductions menue:
https://siduction.org/mirror to https://siduction.org/de
Hold! If you try the here shown links, all works well!!!
To reproduce the malfunction go to:
https://siduction.org/de/Look for Downloads/mirror
Hovering the mouse there shows https://siduction.org/mirror (as does the sourcecode), but connects to https://siduction.org/de
-
@michaa7 I get https://siduction.org/mirror/ with 5.0.2497.48 Stable & 5.1.2562.3 Snapshot (both german language UI) on Debian 10.
-
What exactly did you do?
Did you read AND DO what I advised?
Vivaldi 5.0.2497.48 here on debian/siduction (aka unstable: if you do not use unstable do not pretend to understand how reliable it works)

You kicked me in the back, now i leave the room. Good luck.
//edit: I do not want to install siduction. We have so many users here, they can help in a way you are pleased.
-
fine.
So how come it is how it works here (and does not using FF)?
And it is the same problem with vivaldi-snapshot (current)
What info would be usefull?

- Prove the wrong redirect.
Open Developer Tools, in Network set Preserve Log and filter for Doc, do the steps, you get a log of the redirect. - Try with Guest Mode window or new profile
to get rid of strange extensions or other broken setting
- Prove the wrong redirect.

I did not. I would know.

whiner (now I did)
Good luck.
Yeah, for vivaldi, you need luck.
... you too.
Greetings

Did you try it without Development tools?
Because here with Development tools it works as it should (but the menue depiction is different from what it is without development tools!)
And the normal site does not, but shows the problem
So ...
EDIT:
Here it depends on how you use the development tools. If have the site in its own window, it will connect to siduction.org/de
If I have the site within the development tool window, it will connect to /siduction.org/mirror
-
-
@michaa7 FF is Firefox?
-
yes
-
this way (with the compact menu) it works for me too.
But you do not have the menue like here. You have the site not on full screen and therfor the menue not horizontaly expanded. I have to assume you will reproduce the problem only if you get the expanded menue on fullscreen.
-
@michaa7 For me, i get with 5.0 Stable on fullscreen (F11) or maximised window the horizontal menu and it Download > Mirror always goes to
https://siduction.org/mirror/
Perhaps, tomorrow i will check siduction unstable.
Are you able to create a screenrecording of you browser window and post here?
-
fullscreen was wrong, I meant maximized window. But you did manage it.
As to screenrecording: Is this a vivaldi built in feature or do I need to install something?
BTW: On my laptop I do not encounter this problem. It seems relataed to my desktop ... and to the horizontal menue. The different depiction creates different behavour. Very strange.
So how do I do a screenrecording?
-

Install a screen recording program (let your package manager search for such) on your Linux, record a MP4, upload video to a webspace of your own or imgur.com, and leave link here.

Install a screen recording program ... and leave link here.
EDIT://
What I need to add here because I was not aware until now:In the horizontal menue all direkt links work (like Galerie, Neuigkeiten) but all links in submenues do not work and show the same problem as the mirror link does.
works with sourcecode, but not with menue
works in mobile touch mode, but not with mouse
Different user and/or guest profil show the misfunction, too.
Is there any possibility to see what happens inside vivaldi when the mouse hovers over "mirror" in the submenue? I can see in the status bar the right URL (siduction.org/mirror/) while hovering over "mirror". The very moment I click "mirror", the URL changes to siduction.org/de/ ...

@michaa7 I tested on siduction and always got the correct redirect. I am sorry, but can not reopruce our issue. I do not know what wrong on your installation. I can not help much as Siduction is not my preferred OS.
May be an other user could help you more. The fastest way is to reinstall Vivaldi. Why? In forum we had users with broken installations/updates.
Ad i would check in a extra Linux user account and in a Vivaldi profile which does not use extensions or settings.

Thanks anyway. At least I have now a screenrecorder installed an know how to use it in such cases

Maybe ...

I doubt it as now (see below) the problem seems not direcly caused by my vivaldi settings (different linux user account with fresh vivaldi user settings and/or new profile didn'd avoid the problem.

I now discoverd that the problem seems connected to my WM fluxbox. It does not occur when I use the lxqt DE on the very same installation. So this is a little progress in narrowing down the problem.
But as to me it seems nearly impossible to investigate how whatever fluxbox setting may influence a click in a submenue I'd be thankfull to whoever may have an idea ...
Maybe i need to ask in a fluxbox or the siduction forum ...
