Fix for the extension store – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2553.3
-
There's an issue with extensions not working in private window that was present in the last snapshot and is still broken.
Extensions don't work in private windows when they did work before I updated to the previous snapshot and have allow in incognito selected. Seems like if the extension works by opening a new menu when you click on the toolbar button now doesn't work in incognito but works fine in normal mode.
I'm on 5.1.2553.3 (Official Build) (32-bit), have already disabled and reenabled both allow in incognito and disabled and re-enabled the extensions themselves.

@kwokinator same issue for uMatrix

@kwokinator: Sorry about that. This will be fixed in VB-85986.

Heh - weird. My Expatica feeds suddenly woke up again when I opened Vivaldi this morning. Some change in M3 means it works now or just the result of refreshing the database after update?

a better way to handle it would be to simply not show any settings that are set as "Default". It should only show permissions that are overridden for the site.
But that's exactly how it works already. If you use the default permissions, they won't show up on the list. And since you're blocking almost everything (which is not the default settings for most of them), they're shown in that popup.
Here's how it looks for me, with the default settings:

Yes of course, but the thing is I don't use the default settings. I set them all to Block. If I want to allow something on a site I'm perfectly capable of going into Site Settings and doing it there. I have no need to know that "Motion Sensors" or "Bluetooth scanning" is blocked, I already know that.
The main problem seems to be is what Vivaldi considers "default" is not the same as in the Chromium settings, so the setting says "Not allowed (default)" which makes no sense to show - because it's already default.
It would be much better if settings that are set "Default" do not show at all. But I understand this dropdown is controlled by Chromium base, and there's little the Vivaldi team can do about it without a full rewrite.

I've been getting freezes and crashes for the last few snapshots.

@paul1149 And had you reported the crashdumps for such issues?

There are two sets of "defaults" here. One set of default permissions for each website (configured separately) and another set of global permissions (which apply to every website). The global ones can be overridden by per-website permissions.
Now, as long as you don't change any of them, they'll not show up in the popup. However, since you changed the global permissions, they're no longer set to default - hence they appear in the popup.@pathduck said in Fix for the extension store – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2553.3:

To each their own, I guess. If - for example - someone chooses to block location services globally, they still might want to have quick access for allowing them on a specific website and would like to see such an option in this popup. And I believe that's why it appears there.
A better solution would be to allow everyone to choose which permission would they like to see there (if any), but since it's derived from Chromium, there's not much we could do about it for now. -

But the dialog does say the settings are Default
Why show something when it's default?

CamelizerI can verify this bug. I just tested it and any extension that's been allow to work in incognito mode when click only brings up a tiny white square.

@pafflick & @Pathduck better call them default & fallback?
default == what you have on a clean installation
fallback == what applies when you do not override it on a per-site basis
currently, every permission != default is shown in the popup. a better solution is to show everything != fallback. (or let the user configure what to show, of course.)
-
@pathduck As I said, there are two sets here. In your case, it's the custom "default", based on the global settings (which are not set to the default values). And for Motion Sensors, the default is "Allow". It looks like this:
Global permissions Website permissions Permission in the popup Allow (default) Allow (default as per Global settings) Doesn't show up Allow (default) Block (not default as per Global settings) Shows up Block (not default) Allow (not default as per Global settings) Shows up Block (not default) Block (default as per Global settings) Shows up You can see that as long as the global or per-website permissions are not set to default, they'll appear in the popup. I admit - it's not too intuitive, but there is some logic/consistency to it.
-
@pafflick No worries, I'm just being difficult - I know it's Chromium's braindead implementation
At least we can scroll it now, which was the main issue, the dropdown would fill my whole screen even on 1440p

@potmeklecbohdan I emphatically reject this divisive suggestion, & counter-propose we call it ...

hi, can you please explain me how aliases work here?

@urfausto See Wikipedia: email aliases.

no i already have an email with aliases. i'm not understanding what is happening here with vivaldi...
-
@pesala I'd assumed that the 'here' in the question indicated that @urfausto was puzzled how to use an alias in M3 now that VB-12785 has reportedly been addressed and support for aliases is provided in this snapshot.
That was my assumption because I can't see how to use an alias in a new mail or in a reply so am myself puzzled. Where can the change be seen and used?
