Performance of the browser compared to Edge or Firefox
-
@mib2berlin ....and the common sense too. But performance issues in W10 or more en W11 are due also because the intention of MS to put EDGE as their first browser, I think, If you eliminate this behavior (not so easy, but possible with some apps), the performance of Vivaldi increase a lot.
In W7this was not a problem, but in last years MS has adquired some very bad habits. -
Microsoft Edge was the reason I stopped using windows.
It always ran in the background plus the Widgets thing in windows 11 was complete garbage and required microsoft edge runtime to function. I deleted microsoft edge and the search, the start and the widgets were all broken(at the same time the performance became superb). If Vivaldi is running slowly its not because vivaldi is slow, its because edge is running in the background and eating all the ram and cpu. -
@nightmaresama
Hi, you can disable running Edge in the background but I let it run and it takes about 60 MB or something. No problems so far.
If you change to Linux Vivaldi runs even faster and start faster, try it if you not already doing.
Anyway, we get a bit of topic, I will get back to the OP`s problems.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin edge occupies 60 MB in background. True but microsoft edge runtime is the thing that consumes most of the ram 200+mb and can't be disabled. See task manager and try to forcefully kill it and it starts again.
that's microsoft trying to inbuilt edge so deep in windows that other browsers are just like an extra. In android also we have android webview but it can be disabled easily and disabling it does not break any android features.
Btw I use only Live operating system so my vivaldi launches faster than anybody else because the entire operating system along with vivaldi is already in the ram. Am am just so used to this fast performance that any operating system installed on the ssd feels like a snail. -
@nightmaresama
Ah OK, I remember Puppy Linux, incredibly fast.
I have no Edge runtime running in backgound an I have Edge and Edge Canary installed.Anyway, there is not much difference compare Vivaldi and Edge performance wise for me.
May I ask what OS you are using next to Windows?Cheers, mib

Hi,
I have 16GB of memory, so enough for Edge or Firefox or Vivaldi.
I stopped to use Firefox because it uses a lot of memory. But I see Vivaldi too.
I use BitDefender, but Firefox is faster than Vivaldi displaying pages and pics.
I have deselected some BitDefender options without success. -
@mmseguy , look in the Firewall settings, you'll see that Windows by default settings, put Vivaldi to permit the access only in private WiFi, switching to Edge and Bing in public WiFi, even though Vivaldi is set as the default browser.
That means, that Windows obstaculize Vivaldi, if you don't change even the hidden settings in Windows, at least when it's not one of the "official" browsers, like Chrome or Firefox, which you can find also in the MS Store, but not Vivaldi. -
@mib2berlin I suppose you are using windows 10 not windows 11
And I use Linux Mint XFCE not puppy linux -
@nightmaresama
No, I use 11 insider build and I meant Puppy is running in RAM, too.Cheers, mib

Hi peoples, vivaldi is good and fast enough for me compared to edge, firefox and internet explorer. I had modified win10 which edge has been removed. There is also a modified win11 from the above link.
(mod edit: removed sus link)

@teots For your own safety do not use that modified version of windows as it can contain hidden malware. It could be spying at you. It is not the official windows and is a "pirated" software. Do not use it for any other job than testing. If something bad happens you will be on your own. "If something is free you are the product."
-
@teots , I think the same as @Nightmaresama . It's true that Windows 10 and 11 come with a ton of crap installed by default, but it is better when you can select yourself what you need and what not. When you use this version you may miss a lot of functions which you need, but which the devs think that isn't needed.
You can eliminate yourself innecesary crap, telemetries and services using one of several good apps out there, for Example this one, or use GodMode to do this, when you know what you do.If you really want a substitute for the offical Windows, you can try WindowsFX, it's Linux with a compatibility layer, which give it the look and feel of Windows10 or 11, where you can use also Windows apps.

@catweazle Same things... very slow for me. I am sure a bad parameter somewhere (Win11, Bitdefender, Vivaldi, others..). I can't continue to use it like that.

@mmseguy
Hi, disable Bitdefender for a test, I had the same problem with a friends PC running Avast.
Fresh installed or updated Vivaldi is unknown for the most third party AV software and let it crawl to unusable.
May Bitdefender use a kind of white list for new software to exclude Vivaldi from blocking.Cheers, mib

Haha LOL
Avast yaa that free spyware. It was selling each and every link the users were clicking on to advertisers(in the name of security). I was using avast for an year(Poor Me
).
All antiviruses are spyware. They have access to each and every file on your computer and have more access to your computer than you. Sometimes its so bad that you need permission from your antivirus to disable it. Antiviruses are just to slow the computer down. If windows took measures to secure their system there would be no need of antivirus. Look at android it never needed antivirus. All free antiviruses on play store are adware.
Avast sold my one year of browsing data to advertisers. Hopefully it never detected any viruses. So I can call it useless can't I ?

Thanks for the advice. This modified OS require license
key to use and i only use it for gaming, internet and email. -
@nightmaresama
Not only useless, this was the free version and pester the user with UPDATE NOW, you are more save with UPDATE and so forth.
I donยดt use this crap since ten years except defender and before I work as user not as admin, never got any issue.Cheers, mib
