Solved How do I reset the Bookmark Bar to the root bookmark folder?
-
That's it !
Thank you very much. -
the bug still happens in version 4.3.2439.63. when is the official fix coming?
-
i figured out how to fix it manually. i figured it out by comparing the "Bookmarks" file with a backup version i had.
exit vivaldi. in your vivaldi install directory, go to...
\User Data\Default
...open the "Bookmarks" file in notepad. find this and delete the whole line...
"Bookmarkbar": "true",
...save and exit. open vivaldi.
NOTE: that line was marking a custom folder as the new bookmark bar folder.
-
There's a simple workaround for setting the root bookmarks folder as your Bookmark Bar and it doesn't involve any file editing:
- Create a new, empty bookmarks folder
- Set it as the Bookmarks Bar folder
- Delete it
Upon deleting it, Vivaldi will use the root bookmarks folder for the Bookmarks Bar.
-
i can confirm this bug still happens in the latest version. strangely, someone deleted my recent reply about it. trying to sweep this bug under the rug?

@tsunamiz said in Can't Select Bookmark Bar Folder:

Let's don't introduce imaginary disreputable motives for no reason.
-
it was an informative reply confirming the bug. there is no good reason for quietly deleting the reply.

i got a copy of one of my deleted replies. i will repost it...

@tsunamiz Nobody has deleted anything and it took me just 10 seconds to find the allegedly "deleted" post here. The topic was just forked (since it was about a different issue), and your reply was just moved (along with other replies) there.
Next time please use the search option or check your posts history before making such accusations. Thank you in advance. As for the main issue, I'm unable to reproduce the problem described by OP here - neither in Snapshot, nor Stable, nor the internal build, so perhaps you could provide more information on what is exactly not working for you?
-
@tsunamiz Never having seen it, I can't imagine why anyone would. But I do know that no one here would ever try to sweep a bug under the rug. The dev motto is "Kill All Bugs," not "Put on a Happy Face."
-
i never got a notification about the forking, so that is confusing. also, i didn't realize this topic is actually about a different bug. the first post is written in poor english and is not very clear, so i mostly relied on the topic title. i had to carefully read it again just now. anyways, i will use the other forked topic instead...

is this bug officially reported yet? if yes, what is the status?
-
@tsunamiz It was officially reported a month ago, (VB-83735
Setting root bookmarks folder as bookmarks bar is not possible) and has been internally reproduced. -
I would like to report the same bug too.
Here is the attached screenshot. I had several folders in the bookmark bar and out of curiosity I selected one from this dropdown options. Now there is no option for me to go back to the previous view where every folder would appear on the bar as @Pesala showed in the screenshot.
I tried resetting but didn't help either.
-
@Pathduck 's workaround did the work for me. Thanks.

I'm also interested in a solution about that bug.
Sometime, I need to move a bookmark from a folder to the root, and I can't access it with a right clic and "modify" (it only displays the folders, but not the root folder).
I need to open that bookmark, and use Ctrl+D to find the Bookmarks root, and select it.
-
@darkwolf From the File Menu, Bookmarks submenu, select Add Active Tab.

Why is this still an issue in 2023?!? Had to search for 15 minutes to find this topic.

I was creating a new bookmark folder and wondered about the Bookmark bar checkbox and checked it.
My bookmark bar wen empty as soon as I checked it.
I understood afterwards that I had just set this new empty folder as bookmark bar folder. Now I want to revert my previous setting (bookmark root was the bookmark bar folder).
I cannot achieve this.
It seems now I have to select a folder, and that the bookmark topmost level, is not selectable any more.I hope there is a way to restore my favourites back in the bookmark bar, as I use it almost every second.
As a work-around, I could create a new root folder and set it as bookmark bar folder.
But it was more convenient to set the top as bookmark bar folder. -
My topic was moved here.
Thanks @Pathduck!
Your work-around saved my bookmark bar!!
I realise I must have done that already in the past, but as it is not intuitive, I forgot.I asked for a VB-83735 status update.
