Can I install 3rd party password manager in Vivaldi for Android?
-
Welcome to the Forum!
Switching from Chrome to Vivaldi is definitely always the right thing to do.
An external password manager is not possible in Vivaldi Android, I think (yet?).
I'm quite sure, but others will know better here.With Vivaldi Desktop, of course, this is possible.

That's where it overlapped.
Nice

Vivaldi Snapshot is working with KeePassDX, no extension is needed,
First you must set KeePassDX as autofill service (in Settings -> System -> Language & input -> Autofill service) on your phone. -
Bitwarden works fine for me on Android. Bitwarden also have a YouTube channel with videos showing you how to set it up. (But if you want 2fa it's a premium feature at $10 per year, which is a little annoying. But I guess they need to make money somewhere to fund it.)

@ingolftopf Thanks! The switch might be the right move, but without an external password and credit card manager it's simply not doable. I have no idea how other people can.

@apanthropist I don't understand how Bitwarden is working fine for you on Android.
I installed the Bitwarden app, added a couple of logins, a credit card and one of my addresses. I tried several websites with Vivaldi and also Opera. Logins do work, but credit card and personal data forms don't. They don't even come up as a recognized field. Then I went to homedepot.com on Chrome, tapped on the email field, got the suggestion on my keyboard to use Bitwarden, chose it, and Bitwarden entered the password, in plain text, in the email field.
Definitely not working for me.

@the1metallian There are a lot of different versions of Android out there. And it might be anything causing the problem: Android, Vivaldi, the website, Bitwarden. I can only suggest you try Bitwarden's own forums https://community.bitwarden.com, or their Reddit (https://old.reddit.com/r/Bitwarden/new/) to see if you can get some more specific help for your problems. As I say, it does what I need, but good luck.

@apanthropist I'm running Android 11. I did post a question on Bitwarden's forums but haven't received a single reply.
Definitely, Vivaldi forums kick the butt of Bitwarden's (and many others), as proven here.

In order to have a 3rd party password manager app (Lastpass, Bitwarden, KeePassDX, Authenticator,...) function throughout the Android systen, one needs to register it as the default autofill app. That's how things work on Android. No browser extensions.
- Android Settings app
- general management
- autofill service
- select Bitwarden, Lastpass, Authenticator, whichever your password manager of choice
Once this setting is made, password autofill popups will show up in your browser and possibly also in apps.

Well, I use Android 12 SP1A.211105.002 and have attempted to use Vivaldi version 4.3.2439.61 with Bitwarden as my default Autofill manager. I had to resort to Chrome most of the time because I use Bitwarden for all my logins and Vivaldi doesn't allow it to Autofill anything. Firefox has a similar issue. The best I get is I'll get a pop up to "Autofill with Bitwarden" and then it will take me to the app without any Autofill options or website context. It also blocks the inline Autofill via Gboard, which is also my default system-wide.
Turning my Bitwarden off and on, reinstall etc did nothing with Vivaldi compatibility.
There is a support thread https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/46065/no-support-for-password-android-autofill-api-3-0-enpass/39?lang=en-US&page=2
That Snapshot version of Vivaldi works with Bitwarden. Hopefully it gets merged into main soon but until then here is a fix

@h3mlock
Hi, it was merged 6 month ago and should work now.
Did you follow @S_Paternotte description how to enable it?
I cant test this but it is maybe a regression, we have to wait for other user steps by.Cheers, mib

Yes, it's fully enabled. It works in chrome, it works in relay, duckduckgo privacy browser. Just Vivaldi and Firefox have issues. The snapshot works for inline Autofill compared to the trunk. Neither work for the tap-to-fill balloon as they seemingly lose the context during the transition. If you want me to run specific tests for you let me know what you would like me to try and which debug reports you want generated.

Wanted to post an update. I re-installed the main app. Using the tab switcher instead of having the tab menu makes it work better with Bitwarden. Now it only fails to transfer context half the time which is way better than all of the time
