Go Back to Parent Folder in Speed Dial

@AlesPG said in Go Back to Parent Folder in Speed Dial:
My conclusion is that nobody working on vivaldi use mouse gestures, or vivaldi at all.
You could not be more wrong. The Vivaldi Team all use Vivaldi besides other browsers, and I am sure they love mouse gestures. Old Opera invented them.
You may have to wait some time for this feature, which is just one of over two thousand requests. For now, you have to click the Β« button.

The issue should now finally be resolved. I have a lot of patience with Vivaldi and think the browser is really good. I use it as my main browser. But how long should I wait for this feature?

@RayAlpha No way of knowing. It will take a significant re-write to give Speed Dial and similar pages a history trail so that the "back" function can work.
-
@Ayespy all it really needs to do is detect the click event of mouse button 3.
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/MouseEvent/button
Buttons are: 0 = Left, 1 = Middle, 2 = Right, 3 = Back, 4 = Forward
I think those are the standard, though some mouses might differ.
You can test it here:
https://unixpapa.com/js/testmouse.html
Note: if you navigate back, just navigate forward again. The event log will still be there.
As far as history, I think simply navigating up a level would be fine as an early implementation.

It would be nice if clicking on a folder really counted as navigating - or perhaps if it actually was navigating? What if speed-dial folders actually had URLs, so clicking on a folder News would take you to vivaldi://speeddial/news? Then the topic of this thread would make sense - other than the problem of multiple bookmark folders with the same name.

In the meantime I'd like to offer a workaround to get to parent folder by keyboard:
- Select address bar (press Ctrl+L)
- Hit Tab, until the back button is selected.
Usually one time, if the Search Field is disabled in settings, or two times if it's enabled. - Hit Enter
@Ayespy as you explained it, of course it would be a significant amount of effort to implement a history trail. However, I think the main request is simply the mapping of the mouse back button (XBUTTON1) to the "Return to parent folder" button in the GUI, and not to add jumping between folders to the browsing history, which should be about the same effort as implementing any other hotkey of which Vivaldi already has many
As far as I can tell, this is one of the very few GUI actions in Vivaldi that can not be executed with a hotkey at all, so I'd very much appreciate it, if the team could check again if this really means so much effort for them.

After all this time I decided to organize my speed dial page into folders, and to my horror I found out that you can't remap your way out of this issue. I'd be satisfied with any combination of keyboard shortcuts, mouse gesture or whatnot, because I'd just use "X-Mouse Button Control" for a macro.
Disappointed.
I suppose I need to to create an elaborate autohotkey script for something so (seemingly) simple.. -
