(History of) Vivaldi Feature Requests

I'd like to be able to set [ESC] as the focus page keyboard shortcut as well, to get the same vim-like layout.
-
I'd love to see:
- ability to choose if newly opened tabs should be at the end or next to current active tab
- ability to click-drag text into tabs to automatically open a tab and search google for it (same as RMB->Search for 'TEXT') or drag it into specific tab to search in it without opening new tab
- ability to click-drag tab/tabs to open a new window and drag them between windows (same as RMB->Move to)

@B.Jay:
…
3. Ability to launch a new tab (i.e. middle-click) into the foreground instead of the background.
"Tabs to the Front" works fine as a solution to the "problem", but it would be awesome if "Open new tabs: Foreground / Background" could be incorporated into the browser (my biggest pet-peeve with Chrome/Chromium).
...this is already available by shift clicking on a link

Thanks for all the work you put in this browser. I'm using it for a few weeks now and it feels great.
A few suggestions of my own:
-
web panel: when loading a youtube page, because of the small width the mobile version is loaded instead and the video is no longer flash, it's 3gp and vivaldi tries to open it with the external video player
-
stacked tabs: it would be great to have an option to show/hide all the tab buttons in a stack, like in opera 12, (they should remain part of a group, but be all visible). I have put the tab bar at the bottom and the small stack indicator is not visible at all, I cannot tell which tabs are stacked and which not.
-
delayed loading for open tabs: I often open the browser for just a quick look at something, I don't need to burden the internet connection with all other tabs from the previous browsing session. It would be nice if the unfocused tabs would only load their content when they are activated or when the active tab is idle (finished loading)

looking forward for the mail/rss client
Keep up the good work!

Opera 12 had a nice feature: it allowed you to seamlessly select text which is as link as if it was just normal text.
Chromium-based browsers has huge problems with it: selecting text is a tricky task. Very often you have to find a perfect pixel to start with. Otherwise, link starts being dragged (never ever used this feature) or half a page is selected. -
Hi,
because I went to this site (for the first time) via a link https://vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/all , I'm now not able to go to vivaldi.net without deleting the rest of the suggested link (…/en-US/forum/all) every time, when I type it into address bar. This is common behaviour for all sites. Is there a way around it? When I'm typing into the address bar, I would like to be offered homepage of the typed-in web first.
It would save me some time.
Thank you.

Allow "back" mouse gesture in Speed Dial folders to go up one level, instead of having to click on the back arrow in the upper left corner.
-
I feel like the color change of the address bar isn't enough of an indicator that the browser is currently loading something. It even took me a while to notice it at all. I first thought it doesn't have any indication.

tabs starting on the right side!
this is totally logical, when you have the side panel on the right side, so you dont have to move the mouse across the whole screen, to choose another tab..

Without reading this monster topic - here is what I miss at Vivaldi until now :
1 ) It should be possible to change the skin . I downloaded a theme from Chrome store installed it , but nothing changed. There is no possibilty to Change the skin.
2) It should be possible to use Java.
3) It should be possible to change the behavior of the tabs - like tab mix plus at Firefox.
4) It should be possible to brin the tab bar over the window unter the addressbar.
5) It should be possible to create bookmark groups so you can load a Group of sites at the same time.

Hi,
I read the "monster topic" and it's very good! I will translate both of your posts into feature requests we can process internally. We are making this browser for you guys, remember?

- It should be possible to create bookmark groups so you can load a Group of sites at the same time.
Saving and loading of sessions is already possible. You can also load a bookmark folder of up to 20 tabs at once time.
-
There should be an option to place the bookmark bar vertically on the left or right side and not only horizontally on top or below.
I really loved that feature of my old opera browser.
Every favorite page is just one click away without loosing height of my browser window. -
Any chance for FIDO/U2F protocol implementation on future Vivaldi?
That would be great!I second this request. Even Firefox has a working extension that supports this important authentication feature. For Vivaldi to not have it would be a grave mistake.
-
Thank You Pesala - the newest version has a session manager.
Here some new proposals :
Bookmarks should be opened with one click not a double click.
A new tabwindow should be able to open by click on a bookmark , address, history and a link in a side. -
The possibility to change the position of the webpanels. Also, the webpanels only be open when I start the Vivaldi when I use them (because I note in Task Manager they are active already when the browser is started.)

Ah, so you guys DO read this topic? You probably even read every post of it.
It's good to hear that you guys hear us once in a while.

The panels can be moved to the right. They remember their last used state on restarting Vivaldi. Settings, Startup with last session

Even though there is a hibernate feature, if I hibernate all tabs except just one, it won't be in the same state as it was when I first opened the browser. It'll still take more RAM in the main process because it's been open for so long. Is this a Chromium problem?
-
A feature like the Firefox tab groups would be nice!
Because the current feature is nice for a few tabs but not for more than five… -
It seems kind of silly that the title of the Speed Dial page remains "Speed Dial" when you use one of the links at the top to change to a differently named Speed Dial page or even to Bookmarks or History.
Can it be made so that the title changes accordingly?
