Reader and Tabs improvements – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2345.3
-
New month, new Vivaldi Snapshot.
I was waiting for this all week ^^ -
And my second problem. Vivaldi uses about 4 GB of memory with one tab!
-
No such issues here if I leave Vivaldi open, CPU doesn't "move" a % , and your flag seems weird, did you just add it by yourself? There's no such flag in Chromium from what I know.
Retry with a fresh profile from terminal to see if you would get some kind of message. -
@juanvase: Install stable and use that to reset. Alternatively an old snapshot installed standalone
-
@duzers: Did you read the known issues?
-
@ruarí It's just too bad they removed
<blink>
isn't it? -
@ruarí: No. Ok.
-
Extensions DO NOT WORK in the pop-up windows. Please, do something about it!
-
In reader, clicking a link does not reload the reader view in the next page, I have to click reader button two times after each chapter navigation now.
To be clear, this is a regression, it worked previously. -
I see the known issue with sound in video, but what about video that doesn't play at all? For example the video at the top of this news page: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-06-29/southern-right-whale-and-calf-spotted-at-christies-beach/100252514
The video appears to load but then shows as finished.
Problem found with both v4.1 snapshots so far. Video plays fine in v4.0.2312.21. Windows 10x64. -
Sync issues, video occasionally not playing audio, DevTools breaks browser UI when detecting console errors/debug. The DevTools neglect makes me sad since I know it has been ongoing for years now.
I'm glad syncing has been disabled. I'd be pretty upset if bugs ended up destroying my sync'd information. Looking forward to a fix. I test Vivaldi across multiple machines and would love to continue doing so. Thank you for the rapid updates!
-
@gworboys: The video plays for me on 4.1.2345.3 Win10 x64 but the audio is broken.
-
@starpaw: for me too.
-
@starpaw: Thanks for that feedback. Interesting. My Windows is up to date and doesn't have much in the way of oddities ... except, perhaps, that it is running as a guest inside a VMware Workstation (v16.1). The problem exists whether I have hardware acceleration on or off (hardware acceleration has caused difficulties in the past inside the VM). I'll wait and see what a future update brings I guess.
-
@ruarí: It is a true labyrinth to try to expose a problem. Either way, the advantages of Vivaldi overshadow with a lot of problems that may arise. Thank you for your work.
Note. It seems to me a great success by Firefox to see the active page. It is something to imitate, because I often can not see the current page (using the "Dark Reader" extension that puts the pages in Dark). I know it's not the place to ask for this.

Profile sync does not work
-

@ruarí: "Snapshots are for finding bugs, that is the entire point of them. Otherwise we would only release stable updates."
I know individuals can only work on so much, but then why release unpatched bugs into Stables? Several issues repeatedly get reported on, but remain ignored. Even if they are not fixed, they are at the least worth checking out. It's not like I'm trolling you. I know you are capable, with skill.
Address bar not clearing and left side of screen not registering mouse click is a serious issue.

Because people don't test and report bugs properly by actually confirming they are reproducible bugs first, spamming the bug report system with unverifiable garbage reports. They fill up the Snapshot thread with their personal pet bugs when it's supposed to be for reporting regressions. Or they think that just writing a "me too!" post on the forum is the same as actually reporting a bug...
-
@pathduck: If it's not mass mentioned, it gets no attention at all. I think critical bugs should not be ignored and even if they're not fixed immediately (or at all) if there are at least reports of people saying it can't be reproduced it's at least something.
There was a time when "first" people would get fingers pointed at them, and now it's the hottest trend. It's clear devs only listen to people they engage with daily.
