Norton Password Manager Vault will not open from extension
-
After logging into the Norton Password Manager extension, when you click on the extension, there is the option to access detailed settings of the Vault by either clicking on "Vault" at bottom left or the three dots on the right and then "Settings" or "Password Generator." When I try these options, a tab quickly opens and then closes.
I disabled all other extensions, enabled all cookies (including third party), disable ad blocking, and tried a stand-alone installation of Vivaldi. None of these solved the problem. I tried in Chrome and Firefox and they both behave properly (detailed Vault settings are viewable and editable in a separate tab).
This has occurred in Vivaldi in the past and I could open a new window before accessing the Settings but now even a new window does not solve the problem.
Any ideas on how to fix?
Thanks,
Jason -
I have the same problem. I have to open a different browser to generate the password. Its a little inconvenient. It would be nice to have it fixed and have a seamless operation.
-
Yep, same problem here. The issue is new(er), and has only been occurring for the past few months. It is also not Windows-specific, as I have this happening both on Windows & Mac systems.

FYI - a bug report has been submitted for this issue.
Summary: Norton Password Manager extension, which opens in a new tab for settings, etc., is being blocked
Key: VB-80332
Project: Vivaldi Browser -

Thank you for submitting a bug report. I didn't think to do that. I wonder if it will ever be fixed as Norton Password Manager isn't the most common password manager.

Seeing the same with both Windows and Linux versions. Works fine in Edge Chromium and Firefox

I would like to know if this problem is being addressed so I can use the Norton Password manager with Vivaldi.

@georgeschulze
Hi, you or @fisch can ask in the status thread:https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/27450/what-is-the-status-of-vb-already-reported-bug-issue/
Cheers, mib

I asked for a status update at the link you listed and received the following message: "Issue could not be reproduced by internal testers/devs." I find it odd that they could not reproduce the issue as the issue is consistently a problem for all people I know that use Vivaldi and Norton Password Manager (around 10 different computers.
Does that mean that it won't be fixed?
Thanks,

@hicksjason
Hi and yes, I fear.
I guess the developer test this in a clean profile to except all settings and extensions a user may have and it work then.
You can test it in a guest profile or add a new one.https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/tools/user-profiles/
Cheers, mib

I doubt that the developer/tester either went through the effort to create a Norton account along with a password vault or fully understands the problem. The password manager can be used and the autofill functionality works just fine but when you want to go to the vault, the tab that opens closes rapidly which prevents access to the vault to manage saved passwords, add accounts, etc.
I have tried refreshing Vivaldi, reloading Vivaldi, turning off all extensions, using a private window, using a guest account with the default settings all without success. Access to the vault works fine in Firefox, Chrome, IE, and Edge. It used to work fine in Vivaldi but an update (don't remember which) broke it. Is there any possibility of providing more detail to the tester or sending a video of the behavior as I really prefer Vivaldi over the other browser options.

@hicksjason I do not know if there is any tester/dev using such paid Norton account/software.
I resist in installing/registering for Norton.

The good thing here is the Norton Password manager is free though once you've signed up they will nudge you to buy their other product offerings. Just ignore that.
Using Vivaldi 4.2.2406.44
- Created a new profile
- Installed norton password manager from the google chrome store https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/norton-password-manager/admmjipmmciaobhojoghlmleefbicajg
- Create (and ignore all the crap to buy the other norton stuff) or use an existing Norton Account
- Once account is created click the extenstion icon and select the Vault link
- Vivaldi tries to open the new tab then closes it straight away.
- Same applies when using the extension to open its Settings and Password Generator options.
The browser history shows the following URL that is failing to open:
chrome-extension://admmjipmmciaobhojoghlmleefbicajg/content/ui/vault-tab-ui.htmlHave tried this with both Windows and Linux versions of Vivaldi, same result.

@robaugo I added your information and reopened the bug VB-80332 in tracker.
-
@hicksjason Is theere another way you can use the Norton Password Manager? Maybe a desktop appacation with a buttion in the system tray.
-
@robaugo Thanks for reopening. I checked History and found the same URL as you. When I try to open that URL in a private window, it doesn't close immediately (as opening in a New Window does) and it reports the following error:
admmjipmmciaobhojoghlmleefbicajg is blocked
This page has been blocked by Vivaldi
ERR_BLOCKED_BY_CLIENTNot sure if that is valuable to add to the ticket? Thanks for your help.
-
@eggcorn you can use the Norton Security UI or another browser such as Edge Chrome or Firefox while the Vivaldi dev's investigate the issue.
-
@doctorg There hasn't been a change in the ability to open Norton Password manager in Vivaldi. It will open in other browsers but still not Vivaldi. Do you have any updates on this case after you reopened it? Thanks.
-
I get the NPM vault to open in Vivaldi about 30% of the time. It seems to work after a reboot, or at least when Vivaldi has been shut down. After a while trying to open the vault just goes back to the browser window.

This issue appears to be resolved now.
Not sure which version fixed the issue but now working for me with Windows Vivaldi
