(History of) Vivaldi Feature Requests
-
It is starting to look good. Only thing I am missing is;
- Open tab in a new window: Nice to have the option to split the tab into a new window so that I can move it to another monitor.
- Open tab next to active
- Ability to right click on extensions to manage them. So that you don't need to go via the file menu.
Keep up the good work!

Unicode for URLs in the address bar would be nice.

REQUEST - TWO SIMPLE MOUSE COMMANDS
Both of these are useful and totally natural for me, and are from the older versions of Opera.
1/ Click-and-hold to open the link in a new, background tab.
This is in addition to the two current methods: middle click, and CTRL+left click.
I can't usually middle click my mouse without it sending a scroll message as well, which renders the middle click method incredibly awkward.2/ CTRL + ROLL to zoom in and out.
By that I mean hold down the CTRL key, and then roll the mouse wheel.
I justify this request by saying that CTRL + ROLL is a standard zoom command in almost all Windows programs that support zoom (don't know about other platforms). Thanks for considering these!

REQUEST - NEW METHOD OF MAKING SPEED DIAL FOLDERS
1/ Please let me create Speed Dial folders automatically by dragging one shortcut over another.
2/ Then let me move further shortcuts into the folders simply by dragging them over the folder.I would find this much quicker, more convenient and more intuitive than the current method, which feels decidedly clunky.
Thank you.

**REQUEST - QUICK ACCESS TO SPEED DIAL
Please add a Speed Dial icon next to the Home icon so on any open tab I can go instantly to Speed Dial.**
I find I need to go to Speed Dial just as often as I need to go to the Home page, if not more.
Thanks

REQUEST - ALLOW HOME PAGE TO BE SPEED DIAL
It would be useful if the home page could be the speed dial page (as an option, in addition to it being a single URL). I find I tend to use Speed Dial more often as my launching point anyway.

I switched to Firefox from Opera 12 and implemented a few add-ons to make up for lacking functionality (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/user/sblask/) I'd seriously consider switching if the functionality would make it into Vivaldi (the coming integrated mail is the killer feature!). In particular:
- click on tab to "minimize" tab, see https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-deque/ for more information, especially the clickToBackground option, there should also be a mouse gesture and keyboard shortcut for that
- it should be possible to open new tabs next to the current one
- copy from selection to note, insert from note (I had implemented https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/simple-form-fill/ to fill this gap)
- FastForward should be triggered with space at a page's bottom (see https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/space-next/) and go through images, possibly with a different shortcut (see https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/image-forward/)
- all mouse gestures should be configurable, I also missed the open link in background gesture
- from my speed dial extension that is still in review(https://github.com/sblask/firefox-bookmark-dial): automatic number of rows/columns to always fill the screen, configurable speed dial folder(use case: one folder for work, one folder for home while using the same sync account), add current page directly through context menu
I also love the possibility to configure keyboard shortcuts, this should include shortcuts coming from extensions.

What's wrong with this Speed Dial icon?

For now, if you want to re-use any tab you are in by turning it into a speed dial page, you can put a bookmark on the bookmarks bar with the destination:
chrome-extension://mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli/components/startpage/startpage.html
and with a single click on it, you will find yourself on Speed Dial. -
Traffic Shaping in Browser
I think it would be an awesome, unique and innovative feature if Vivaldi had some sort of traffic shaping built in. Automatic or even manually.
Vivaldi should prioritize the active tab first, live streaming services like Twitch or Netflix second (if in the background), Youtube third highest priority and so on. And lastly the huge download that takes forever can be the lowest priority (except you say otherwise!)
I don't think any other browser does this. And it can't be easily achieved with other software either.
I believe this is a feature that should exist and Vivaldi should be the browser to do it.

Simply that it creates a new tab, and opens that with Speed Dial. I then have to go back to the previous tab and close it.

**REQUEST: AN ANIMATED INDICATION THAT THE PAGE IS LOADING
**It's most odd waiting for a page to load, as it isn't obvious that anything is happening. Just changing the pointer to a 'Busy' pointer would be fine, and I suspect pretty easy to implement. Alternatively you could animate the 'Reload/Stop Loading' icon.
Thanks

The fact that the addressbar is blue or blue creeping to red means that the page is loading. If it's white, nothing is happening.

Thanks for replying, Ayespy. I hadn't noticed that, so thanks for pointing it out. The trouble is, the colour signal isn't consistent. For instance, on this site the address bar goes pink when loading, then white when finished. On other sites it goes blue, then white.
I'm not convinced the colour change is as useful as a simple 'hourglass' cursor for showing that the page is still loading. Nevertheless, you've taught me something useful. Thank you again.

Feature request: Allow regex in Find in Page, similar to how it is in Sublime Text or Intellij IDEA.

Not sure if this has been asked for. Looking for keyboard shortcuts for tab stacking, I love the feature but don't like having to carefully drag mouse over tabs to stack them. Might be unreasonable but was thinking shortcut, then two numbers indicating tabs to merge like 1 and 2. If one is already a stack, then it always puts the non-stack in the stack one, otherwise makes a stack out of the two normal tabs. Not a big deal but something that would be really handy when I want to keep my hands on the keyboard.
Thanks for listening, keep up the awesome work.

So I just recently got aware of Vivaldi. After using it some time now I'm pretty optimistic about its future But still here's what I'm currently (Version 1.0.303.52 (Beta)) missing:
Most important to me:
[ul]- Option to drag a tab out of a tab group
OR/AND Option to "expand" and "retract" tab groups, similiar to old Presto Opera - Make Web Inspector/Developer Tools dockable to the main window
- Option to open new tabs next to active tab
- Option to make Speed Dial your Start Page OR Alternatively: Add a speed dial button next to start page
Even making chrome-extension://mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli/components/startpage/startpage.html your start page doesn't work, because "http://" is always added before that
[/ul]
Important to me:
[ul]- Option to open link in private Window/Tab
- Option to drag out tabs in a New Window
- Option to never ask if Password should be stored (in general)
[/ul]
Would be nice to have:
[ul]- Change image of bookmark / Speed dial Entry
- Windows Taskbar:
Problem: If Vivaldi is attached to taskbar and a Vivaldi WIndow is opened, the Window becomes a seperate field in the taskbar
Feature Proposal: Option to open "New Window" or just a "Private Window" without opening last session default Vivaldi when clicking on task bar icon
[/ul]
Not really important, but I would appreciate implementation:
[ul]- Private Tabs
- Display Bookmarks like they are displayed in Speed Dial
[/ul]
Least important: Make it possible to install new Designs / themes to browser
You are doing a good job so far, keep it up ! :cheer:
- Option to drag a tab out of a tab group

I like the notes feature. I think it would be cool to save notes per page. i.e… I goto www.mypage.com and see all and any notes I made on that page or about it. Then I leave and goto www.yourpage.com and create some notes for that page... when I go back to mypage I don't see the notes for yourpage... unless I'm actually on the page or in that domain somewhere...
just a thought

i can't use vivaldi while these functions missing:
- import passwords from new&old opera
- import bookmarks from new&old opera
- import speed dial from new&old opera
- import notes from old opera
- inspector place: right, bottom, blank window
other request: customizable mouse gestures
