I agree that the settings around this can be a bit confusing and hopefuly they are reworked to be clearer. "Open Tabs in Current Tab Stack" affects links that you open while in a tab within a tab stack. e.g. middle-clicking a link will open it inside the tab stack if the setting is enabled, but outside if it's disabled.
The key thing here is that before 3.7, that setting also applied to new tabs. Now it doesn't. Until they say otherwise, I have to assume that's a bug.
The behavior should be all one thing or all the other, not an arbitrary mix.
-
@mtaki14 Thanks for the tip! I often use tab tiling not in a stack, and for the longest time I was frustrated by links from one of the tiles opening as part of the tiling (but I do want links from a stacked tab opening in the stack, so unchecking "Open Tabs in Current Tab Stack" isn't an option). If the tiled tabs are not in a stack, then "Remove from Tab Stack" doesn't show up in the tab context menu, and I hadn't realized that this command will remove a tile from a tiling if only one is able to access it (e.g. by a keyboard shortcut)!

I have a weird issue with the --user-data-dir switch...
This morning I opened Vivaldi (after it upgraded to this snapshot yesterday) and was shocked to find a weirdly borked interface - message that the speed-dial extension was blocked and a kind of Chrome-lite look. I was worried that it had something to do with the various blockers on this corporate laptop but noticed I could open a guest window which looked fairly normal.
So I tried re-setting my profile - renamed the User Data folder and restarted. Set up the profile as I liked and exited. Noticed that nothing had been saved in the newly created User Data folder! Re-started, checked "about" and see that the user profile is in the application folder instead (this is a standalone installation run with the --user-data-dir switch).
Exited again, moved the data from the application folder to the normal location, restarted... back to new user mode!
So in other words, what I think is happening is that this snapshot is not respecting the profile path set by the command line and reverts to the application directory instead. I'm okay with that - since I used the switch to prevent it saving data in my Windows user profile - but this seems like a snapshot bug to me.
Anyone confirm?
-
@mossman Follow-up: seems some things were stored in / read from the correct folder and others from the application folder version - when I deleted the copy in the old location and changed the command line switch to point to application folder instead I had to once again log in to Vivaldi sync and make a few changes in the settings...
It got weirder - it would still create an empty User Data folder in the old location (above the Application folder) and that's where it stores data when I run without the command line switch.
So I've moved everything back to it's original location and will just run Vivaldi without the switch from now on. The switch is definitely borked.

[fixed] I can't install any extension: the blue button called "Add to Chrome" is missing in the extension pages!
-
@gwen-dragon: Thanks, fixed: the "Web Store" checkmark was missing... I wasn't aware of that option (as I use extensions...), anyway.

@Gwen-Dragon said in Fixes, fixes, fixes – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2254.3:
@newscpq Perhaps a previous downgrade and later update or other glitch broke the setting.
I confirm the existence of this problem.
-
One more to report... In the meantime, just posting it here, so it's known.
-
@infosrefanvlad Thanks for reporting. You need to submit a bug report to make sure it reaches the developers.
Please see How to Report a Bug.
I did it for you:
(VB-78708) Misaligned Buttons on Clock Dialog

calendar dates in Booking.com are a bit congested for me. were not visible at all until the previous build.
-
Still the same issue as the previous snapshot that occasionally on browser extension the overlay of it is not disappearing after using it. Ubuntu 2 systems can provide screenshot
-
Sorry for not leaving the issue as it was. Perhaps it was better this way. Issues piling up in Stable... I'm willing to let the new users uncover those marvels and be amazed.
When I submit bug reports, I'd rather do it properly. Perhaps if I just attach photos here I sound demanding and not like a person who does not want to forget to report stuff later.
I can only use certain time frames for bug reporting. If Stable's tab dragging worked, I wouldn't bother mixing Snapshots and serious work. If I am willing to let a bug be known (in hopes of a fix) at least let me report it.
Otherwise I might send a duplicate. I'd rather avoid that.

I've been getting the volume icon on the active tab's pop-up (regardless of whether the active tab is the one producing sound or not) since last Stable.
Just to be sure: Has this been reported yet? If not, I'd better do it.Reported as VB-78782. -
@xyzzy I finally got to testing it in IE. (https://downloads.vivaldi.com/snapshot/Vivaldi.3.8.2254.3.x64.exe)
IE connects to the URL and downloads the file properly.
Vivaldi itself connects to the URL and downloads the file properly.
Vivaldi's update notifier does not connect to the URL and throws error 12301 (been doing that for multiple versions).Could this be an indicator of my machine's proxy settings working well? By that I mean: can I assume this issue to be an issue with Vivaldi's update notifier that I should report, and not an issue with my machine's config?
[EDIT] Sent a report anyway. VB-78790

@Gregor Does this happen after you open a page from bookmarks, and also only occur if you have the Panel open (on the left) and right-click on the left side of the web page? If so I have an open bug for this (VB-74891) but need external confirmation to justify raising the priority. Thanks!
No, it happens every time I right-click on some element (with menu). It works, but only until I click somewhere else left or right click on element without menu (like blank page). Then it stops working. Then I have to click on the browser menu icon or open new window to start it working. Anyway, I think I know what's the problem now, see below.
@iAN-CooG said in Fixes, fixes, fixes – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2254.3:
@Gregor Most probably something broken on your main profile, test on a guest profile, if it works there, you may want to try to refresh your main profile.
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/10388/refreshing-or-cleaning-your-profileThanks, I started refreshing my profile and found that there is the problem with contextmenu.json file (ind Default folder).
The file is created because I have modified context menus in the settings (also mainmenu.json because I modified UI menus, but it doesn't cause the problem).
So what should I do know? Is this a bug or we shouldn't use the browser's function because every time there is an update that modifies menus it causes this problem?
Or maybe I should delete this file and re-do all changes I made? But how can I remember every change?EDIT:
can anyone confirm if this is a bug?- delete all entries from this menu
- right-click on some link on the page (to have context menu)
- left-click on blank page
- right-click on different page elements and browser interface
- result - it shouldn't working
Btw, I can't add any command to the blank Content table.
- delete all entries from this menu

I cannot reproduce this on my W7 machine.
Btw, I can't add any command to the blank Content table.
I could reproduce this easily.

Ok. Having to press Ctrl+D twice and having bookmarks open for speed dial first is both really weird, but holy hell, you did it!
Finally I can add new bookmark folders and even quite nicely search for existing ones! Absolutely awesome!
-
@jumpsq I'm still not sold on the new single-click-to-add-bookmarks UI. The Speed Dial-first is really weird, and I get waaay too many accidental bookmarks as a result of mistyping Ctrl-F. I also have a huge manually-sorted bookmark tree so, after hitting Ctrl-D, I find it faster to go to vivaldi://bookmarks/ , cut the newly-added bookmark and paste it into the exact desired location.
-
@xyzzy I think the dialog should default to the last-used folder, and Ctrl+D would also add the bookmark to that same folder until the users changes it.
- Ctrl+D for quickest method
- Click Add Bookmark icon to edit the bookmark, create a new folder, or to move an existing bookmark.
