Not yet. It is planned.

Thank you! Looking forward to this feature.
-
How is the feature going to work? Let's say I have some old mail in M2 that is also synced over IMAP to M3 and then I have some old mail in M2 that is backup up nowhere else. Will M3 be able to find duplicates? (is it able to find duplicates now, by the way - I still have not installed this, too busy, can't wait for the weekend!)

Clearly we would expect the import process to be able to handle duplicates in some way. The feature is not ready, but we do handle duplicates across folders and accounts today, should you have the same mails in multiple folders and accounts. In fact, this is part of the database in Vivaldi.

Perfect, can't wait to try it!
-
@jon Dear Jon - is any updates there?
-
@verdi Not yet. It was possible in the first iterations of M3 over 6 years ago, and will be possible again - but with M3 being almost mature, it is SO different that import will have to be done completely differently. Of course M2 import is probably the first one they will try to manage.

bookmarking this.

Go to:
File --> Import from Applications or Files
Then you can check Opera 12.x and check mail.
-
@schreck The feature is already available, but as this is still a technical preview it may not work perfectly, or at all. If you have a lot of mail, it could take hours.
File menu, Import from Applications or Files...
-
oh, ok. but if that doesnt work for everybody, its obviously still not very reliable.
i have lots of different filters and mail accounts, so this would be risky.
actually it could state successfully imported,
but many mails would be empty then or just not imported?
is there some kind of redundancy check or indicator how many mails exactly were imported and which ones werent? -
@schreck Try it and see. What do you have to lose?
Testing features and reporting bugs is the only way to get improvements made. I am already using it as my email client, and no longer need to launch Opera 12.18, except to find old contacts, which did not import for me.
(VB-77646) Contacts Not Imported
I don't keep a lot of email, so I forwarded a few dozen archived emails to my vivaldi.net account before trying the email client. All of those imported OK sorted in their custom folders.
-
@schreck and just to complete the story from the other side, since about 20 years I keep all emails regardless of how unimportant (I only delete spam). I didn't use the import tool but synced my active accounts IMAP, which means that two of my accounts that no longer have a server associated are still waiting for import from M2.
M3 is working fine so far - it doesn't have the advanced filtering capabilities of M2 yet but the search works well. There are still a few bugs and some stuff is just missing, but overall it is working well enough and most importantly I don't seem to lose anything. And setting the new theme opacity to 75%, the panel looks absolutely sleek
Contrary to @Pesala I still fire up O12.18 regularly because of IRC and, you know, backup just in case.

how the heck would i know then, if there are some los
Hover your mouse over all messages or received in M2 and or will show you the amount of messages in that filter, compare with M3
If all your mail is on an imap server, you don't need to use the import function but can just set up the account, choose to download the bodies and let M3 fetch them all. Couple of GB data of course but that's the same as if I download some Linux distro.

I have the latest version of 4 that came out today and when I try to import my M2 data nothing seems to happen... I get a message to check the status bar, but the status bar provides no feedback or indication that anything is importing. All my mail data is in an external drive. I have Opera 12.18 installed and I can see all my data.
I have a lot of labels 40+
let me know what other data could be useful to troubleshoot.

@thshdw not sure what trouble exactlz you run into, check these threads
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/58193/importing-from-m2 (long and potentially helpful)

@wildente Thanks, This did not work. i'm having the same issue as outlined in the first link you provided where nothing happens. I can point it to an empty random folder and the interface says its syncing but in the status bar nothing.
Same as when I point it to my actual mail files. The interface says its syncing but nothing in the status bar about progress and no data is imported.
-
@thshdw Try pointing it to Opera's profile folder, not the mail folder. On Linux systems it's ~/.opera (as opposed to ~/.opera/mail). Preset folder meant hours without any result. This input did the import in a few minutes.
Edit: I have tried this the whole day, trying to make it work (with several fresh installs of Vivaldi in between). The import sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't. But trying to import more than one M2-account never worked. There was always at least one account not receiving new mails or not showing imported mails. I only got a working system in Vivaldi after deleting little used accounts (less than 30 mails) in Opera. I then imported the account with 10.000 mails and added the other accounts to Vivaldi without importing their mails.
