I would like m3 to have conversation view. While threads group emails together, conversation view shows a conversation in a list, like text messages. It would be similar to gmail.

I suggested to dedicate a panel for this purpose

        https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/55078/panel-to-show-certain-mail-like-messenger-conversations-aka-spike-email-delta-chat?_=1615698588399

Usually on Win11 running Vivaldi Snapshot builds. Opinionated about working efficiently with email. Folders are evil | Mail workflow: receive, read, reply, mark as read, done.

@WildEnte that could be good, but I think that it should also be part of the normal message view, like in gmail.

@code3 M3 has a conversation view. It is called "threaded."

@Ayespy I use that, but it is not what I want. Have you ever used gmail before? It’s conversation view looks more like a conversation. It groups the whole conversation in a list, and hides threaded dialogue, so it is much easier to follow long conversations. You should be able to find screenshots online.

It is like a list, not threads.

@code3 Use the "all messages" view. It shows the entire thread, in order. Yes, I have 3 GMail accounts, have them set to conversation view, and find them nearly unusable for that purpose, because they do not have a clear conversation tree, which Vivaldi does.

@Ayespy Ok, I am used to gmail’s view though. Maybe @WildEnte ‘s conversation panel request is a better idea. I would also be okay with the thread view but only if the On date someone said dialogue, I find that annoying. Is there a way to hide it?

@code3 I'm not sure what you mean.

@Ayespy Sorry, I mistyped a bit. What I meant was "quoted text," I believe gmail hides it automatically. It is when an emails says "On <date> <sender> wrote:" and then lists previous emails, but I find it redundant and confusing in a conversation view and have not found a way to hide it from m3. Here is what I mean:
                        https://stackoverflow.com/questions/2385347/how-to-remove-the-quoted-text-from-an-email-and-only-show-the-new-text
                        https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/345776/hiding-the-quoted-messages-in-mail

By the conversation panel, I mean something like https://delta.chat but in a web panel, it was originally a suggestion from @WildEnte

@code3 Pretty sure you cannot turn off quoted text in M3. But when I am using threaded view, I just read the "current" part of any email in the thread that I click on and ignore the rest.

@Ayespy I know. Do you think hiding the quoted text is coming?

@code3 I would think that a global quoted text setting would be somewhere in the future (you know, above, below, none) but it would be impossible to predict when.
