Solved Back/Forward navigation jumps two pages instead of one
-
Well I hope this is resolved since this bug seems to affect numerous touchpads.
I would ask the Vivaldi Community if you DON'T have this bug occurring, what touchpad or device are you using? It seems that this doesn't happen for everyone, so it may lead us in the right direction if we know what devices actually do function without this bug. (Of course, Vivaldi needs to address the bug as well.)
I also think the more this is brought to light and the more users with this issue, then Vivaldi will be more apt to address it.
As always, thanks for the help!

2 Years and still not fixed? It's super annoying.
-
The problem is with how the mouse is configured. Since Vivaldi has a custom interface, the mouse software isn't sure how to deal with it. Go to whatever software you have to configure the buttons and set both to Default button and they should then work properly.
-
As I had configured the mouse non-standard (button 5 for copy) I had to put it back to standard and then it is working properly for back and forth in Vivaldi / Windows.
I'm using the newest snapshot 3.7.2209.3. -
There is nothing magic in my mouse configuration. I use buttons 4 and 5. Every other program has no problems, just Vivaldi.
-
@Oomek Which version of Vivaldi?
-
Always up to date
-
@Oomek Have no idea how to solve it. It is working here in Windows and Linux.
Anybody else coming with an idea? -
Aw geeze...I was worried I was gonna find something like this. Brand-new Vivaldi user here and also having the same issue with both my mouse and Synaptics touchpad. I love Vivaldi but this kind of bug might be a deal breaker for me. Can't believe it's been 2 years without getting addressed.

You have to recognize that it isn't automatically a bug of Vivaldi if it is not working with your hardware and software.
Such issues are happening with I guess every program to a smaller minority of users. And very often the cause are any modifications, configurations or interferences with other programs.
If you have to deal with it you are free to investigate by yourself to find the culprit.
As soon as any user in this forum or another has an idea to solve it you have a chance to get the information. -
Thanks. I'm gonna file a bug report. The mouse that causes double back/forward events in Vivaldi is Razer Lancehead. When I remap the side buttons from Button4, Button5 to Alt+Left, Alt+Right the issue is not happening. But doing so has implications for other apps. Selective mapping for a single application based on focussed window is not always working right

@gworboys This thread is about a mouse issue.
-
@sgunhouse Yes indeed. Which is why I pointed out that the quoted reference number VB-48982 does NOT apply to this thread (it is not not about the mouse issue, I know because I reported that fault).
I also reported VB-48118 which is about this issue. Please understand that mouse buttons under windows send keyboard codes (VK_*), which is why I described it explicitly as such back in Aug 2019 (the message Gwen-Dragon was responding to). By describing which codes are at fault I am (I hope) providing relevant, hardware-independent, information for the developers.
-
@Gwen-Dragon The mouse issue is with key codes, mouses send key codes, but if you want a separate thread that's fine. I really only came back here because you'd replied to my old Aug-2019 post which made me thing something had changed. But the only change is another user reporting the same trouble. I have a work around using AutoHotKey so I'm not hanging waiting on this to be solved.

I have my Windows gestures configured for three-finger swipe forward and back. Whenever I use this in Vivaldi, it jumps back or forward two pages instead of one. It doesn't happen in any other program or browser. I just started using Vivaldi and love a lot of the features, but this might be a deal breaker for me as it makes navigation basically useless.
I did search the forums and saw other posts from some years back but they had no helpful solutions, so I'm reposting in hopes that something has been fixed. Thank you in advance for your time and help!

Hello @dlee098, and welcome to our forums!
As you have noticed, it was already reported, and from what I can tell, our testers were unable to reproduce the issue (not sure if it was working properly at that point or not). Unfortunately, I don't have any compatible device to test this myself. Therefore, I'd like to ask you to read the article on how to report a bug and follow the instructions there to report this issue to the developers. Don't forget to mention what type of device are you on. Thank you!

Hello,
I have my keys PgUP and PgDn reassigned to the commands Browser Back and Browser Forward. This keys work perfectly as intended in Windows Explorer and all my other web browsers (Firefox, Brave, Edge) in which they behave as History Back/Forward. I have now switched to Vivaldi as a new user, and here the keys are behaving in a strange way, pressing BrowserBack or BrowserForward takes me two pages in history instead of one. This behavior does not occur in any other program,
Suspecting it to be acting like the Rewind/Fast Forward function, I have cleared all the hotkeys, then default again, to no avail - the behavior of Rewind is different. It seems like the issue has occurred before in the forum history (with a mouse) but I was unable to find a solution.
This is currently the main issue that is preventing me from switching to Vivaldi which is otherwise great, would anyone have some clue as to why this issue would be specific to this program?
Thank you.
Running: Windows 10 and Vivaldi in latest update, on a Thinkpad W541,

@gds Hello and Welcome to the Vivaldi Community
How exactly are you mapping these keys? Because as far as I can tell, you can't map PgUp/PgDn in the Vivaldi settings, as these are reserved keys.
Are you using some third-party software?
It's possible Vivaldi's UI causes this issue, as the UI is a "layer" on top of Chromium base, so maybe this causes it to trigger the "Browser Back" event twice. Just theorizing here.
-
@pathduck Hello and thank you for replying.
My keys are remapped in the registry through Sharpkeys.
How would Vivaldi's UI affect this change of behavior from other programs?Edit: A further detail: when I try to assign my remapped keys in the Keyboard Settings of Vivaldi, it is "BrowserBack" and "BrowserForward" that are registered upon pressing the keys. Assigning those to History Back/Forward has no effect on the behavior.
-
@gds Then it's this Sharpkeys program that is not compatible with Vivaldi. No idea what can be done about that, apart from maybe contacting the SharpKeys developer.
As for why it happens and how the UI is involved - I have no idea, just theorizing.
For me if I try to enter PgUp/PgDn in the V keyboard settings, I get nothing, it won't accept those keys as input mapping.
