@mib2berlin Just try any other video on any site, just not youtube. I haven’t found an example video which works yet.

@luetage
Hm, https://vimeo.com/502313188 and https://www.morgenpost.de/vermischtes/article231646753/Corona-aktuell-Lockerungen-Montag-Lockdown-Gipfel-Merkel-News.html
and https://tube.tchncs.de/videos/watch/eede539b-f364-4e0c-9819-98bb098bebbc
are working.
The problem for me I can find a video which does not work.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin Probably depends on the device you are using, your Xiaomi Mi Box, it seems to be a chromecast device specifically and might make all of this easier. In my case I try to cast directly to a TV screen with no intermediate gadgets. The device is being recognized but in Vivaldi I’m told the device only works on specific video sites. For me this is youtube only. I’m hesitant to install chrome to test this, because I already got a workaround I’m content with.

@luetage
Hi, I understand, does it make sense to test with the original Chromecast device?
I still have one lying around here.
@goefelein do you use original Chromecast?Cheers, mib
-
Have you tried casting different sources? Below the list of available devices, there's a dropdown menu for Sources and you should be able to choose between Cast tab, Cast desktop and Cast file. Does casting work with any of these options?
-
@mib2berlin It's an older device. Model NC2--6A5.
-
@jane-n Yes, I have. Thanks!
-
@goefelein
I have the same one and can test in a few hours.
Can you search a video not on social media pages not working for you I can test with, please?Cheers, mib

When I try to cast, I see the list of devices. I select the family room, it connects very briefly, then drops. No extensions enabled.

@goefelein
OK, I have only one device in one room but should not make any difference and the video work for me on:Latest Vivaldi stable and snapshot on my Linux laptop and my Windows 10 workstation connected over WiFi.
I have no idea why it is not working for you, I am sorry.Cheers, mib
-
Thanks, mib. One obvious difference is that I am using Linux Mint 20.1 instead of Windows 10. I will submit a bug report in the next day or two. Thanks again for your suggestions!
-
@goefelein
My laptop is Opensuse Linux and I regular use Linux but my customers use 99.9% Windows so I have one running Windows 10 system for testing.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin VB-77514. Thanks for your guidance!

@goefelein Is there some kind of public bug to watch?
I have the same issue and it started a few weeks ago, unfortunately I don't know what causes the issue. I can only say that the same issue also occurs with Chromium which is also not able to cast anymore.
The behavior I see is the same as you described: when clicking Stream, I can see my Chromecast (3rd gen), clicking seems to start the cast for a moment but immediately stops. The TV connected to the Chromecast shows a black screen for a moment when trying to start casting but immediately switches back to its home screen.
Interestingly
mkchromecast --video --screencast
works fine however ...Unfortunately both Vivaldi as well as Chromium are linked statically and without debug info, so I cannot check via
ldd
if a library update causes this. -
@matsusuke The bug number is VB-77514. I have not had any feedback from Vivaldi since I submitted to developers. Unfortunately, this MAY be a licensing issue with Google charging other browsers for the ability to Chromecast.
-
@goefelein I have just tried with Google Chrome instead of Chromium and the result is the same. But Google Chrome seems to notice that there is an issue, at least the cast icon changes:
Unfortunately there are no details here like tooltip, message, etc.
-
For some reason it seems like a recent update (again not sure which exactly) fixed the issue. I am now able to cast from Vivaldi again (now called Cast Mirror).
