Native #web-share add share button
-
I guess, but now the native share feature is inherited inside the chrome engine for the first time so no additional embedding is needed(like chrome based edge). So all that's needed is to code it(invoke) from a menu command or a button. I'd write it myself but haven't the slightest idea of the Vivaldi/Chrome extension structure.
Thanks mate.

Found an extension to invoke it.. it works like a charm
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/web-share-extension-beta/abfbkdogabfjekifogeacikcidnhpaej/relatedyou have to enable the feature in advanced flags settings (#web-share)
vivaldi://flagsNow you can share like a pro

vivaldi://flagsYou mean this?
With typing
web-share
I didn't find any items invivaldi://flags
. Only withweb-
.
And I don't find any sharing-options in menus. -
You need to have the latest Vivaldi, I think 3.62 because this feature became available only in the last engine update.
vivaldi://flags/#web-share
I'm using windows tablet so it triggers tbe share charms, it should also trigger the native OS share on iOS or Android but can't test those.

@anarche I'm using the latest Vivaldi stable AND snapshot. But #web-share isn't there.
Vivaldi 3.6.2165.32 (Offizieller Build) (64-Bit) = latest snapshot
Vivaldi 3.6.2165.36 (Stable channel) (64-Bit) = latest stableEDIT:// Just found out on my Windows 10 OS with
Vivaldi 3.6.2165.34 (Stable channel) (64-Bit)
, that in this version I can enable web-share. But after installing the extension nothing changed within rightclick-menu. -
@Dancer18 That's odd, It should add a button which you can click in addition to the context menu but you must make sure to select enable in flags, not the 'default' setting.
Here are screenshots of the flags options enabled and the share charms when you click on it. Hope that helps.

@anarche Thanks for the screenshots. I'm on Windows now (where #web-share is enabled:)
And where can I find the button? I can see the icon of the extension, but not any button, neither in adress-bar nor in right-click-menu.
I have the addon active:
In the addon-description it is mentioned that it requires Chrome 89+. The browser "Chrome" is meant, yes?
-
@anarche I installed the addon in Chrome browser where I find an entry in the menu. But marking a text and clicking on that button has no action.
Maybe I'm missing some code within windows. Any suggestions?
-
@Dancer18 No idea, but that same icon in the extensions page(blue share) should appear in your toolbar.. but since you're missing the context menu commands, that means something isn't right.. maybe reinstall with elevated rights? Also, it could be restricted if you're running Vivaldi from a sandbox or as a portable install.. maybe the extension isn't given full rights. Try to install another extension and see if it runs properly.
My Vivaldi is installed with full rights down this path
C:\Users[user]\AppData\Local\VivaldiIf other extensions are working without hiccups, then try to install an extension by the same author.
When I first installed the extension, I tested it in a portable install of Vivaldi because I wasn't ready to migrate yet to latest version.. the toolbar button was visible but not the context commands and in the extensions page, it showed an error about 'writer service not working' or something like that and it was jittery until I installed the new version fully..so maybe you have an issue with privileges.
It's still in 'beta' so maybe it has a few bugs that need to be ironed out so leave the developer a feedback.
Hope you figure it out and keep me updated.

@Dancer18 I see it in your screenshot now, 'service worker inactiv' that means Vivaldi has no full rights in your installation.. it must be active for the extension to work.

Oh I see. Thank you for your comments on that.
At the moment I don't want to dig into that stuff bc I prefer to work on Linux. And sharing stuff isn't that complicated to do with copying a link or text and paste it into mail or social media.
We'll see what developement is coming within Vivaldi for this feature.
