Can't install any extensions from Chrome store
-
@Tenor Check Tools/Settings/Privacy
Did you remove the checkmark from "Google extensions - Web Store"?You may also need "Google extensions - Crypto Token"; it's needed for logins, but unsure if also needed for Store.
-
Ah that must be it, thanks! I probably disabled this after it was introduced with an update since I rarely install new extensions.
-
@Tenor , you can also install a lot of extensions from GitHub or Sourceforge
Download the CRX file and pull them on the Extensions page in Developer Mode, so you don't need do this from the Chrome Store.
It is somewhat more laborious and they are not updated automatically, but you will have to do it by hand. This would be the downsides. -
@Catweazle Thanks, well the extension I wanted ended up not working anyway. I was looking for something to kill the affiliate part of any (shopping) links but somehow it had no effect at all.
-
@Tenor , that is another problem, Vivaldi is compatible with most Chrome Extensions, but Vivaldi is diferent from Chrome and a lot of Chrome Extensions don't work or don't work properly in Vivaldi for this reason.
-
@Catweazle Ok, in the documentation it said something like "most should work", so I assumed it would.
-
@Tenor One thing you can probably predict is that if the extension acts on or manipulates the UI, it will not work with Vivaldi because Chrome UI and Vivaldi UI do not share any code at all.
-
@Tenor Which extension was?

The extensions I was trying were:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tracking-token-stripper/kcpnkledgcbobhkgimpbmejgockkplob
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/clearurls/lckanjgmijmafbedllaakclkaicjfmnk
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/amazon-tag-remover/mmajdhfdokfcaiadahjnffhbfjfkmcnc
But 2 of them have mixed reviews anyway, so them not having any effect might not be down to using Vivaldi.
I'm actually surprised it's so difficult to find something that works. I'm not a developer but analyzing a string and removing certain elements doesn't sound that hard to me.
For example I can manually remove everything in an Amazon affiliate link after the product ID and have a clean URL without tracking, it's just a little tedious.
-
@Tenor , as extensions, apart from uBlock Origin, I use Trace and ClearUrls, which work perfectly for me, cutting out everything that I dislike, also the Captchasolver Buster and I don`t care about Cookies, Decentraleyes is also recomendable.
No problems
-
@Catweazle Thanks, I installed a few of those.
