Failed downloads {AVAST}
-
After the last update Vivaldi does not complete the downloads, when going to the download panel they appear in 0 bytes and when trying to restart them it only makes the attempt but does not complete them. I have already cleared the cookies, the cache but the problem is not solved, I hope you can help me.

@jmaraher Hello, and welcome to the Vivaldi Community
Please post your system information from Help > About here in a code block.
Other people have reported failing downloads with anti-virus like Avast. Maybe Avast has done something to break downloads in Vivaldi. Check your anti-virus logs if there's a mention of this.
Please follow the troubleshooting steps, make sure to disable your anti-virus (temporarily) to test if downloads work again:

Jmaraher, I have the same problem. But try to change the location where you save the new downloaded files in the "Save as" dialog box. It works for me. Perhaps it works for you as well.

@Pathduck Thanks for answering! according to your indications, I have indeed just verified that my antivirus is blocking downloads in Vivaldi, I turned off the shields for a moment and tried to make a download and it did it without problems, then I reactivated it and tried to download again and it could no longer. Do you know if in Avast this can be put as an exception? Thanks again!

@cezar Thanks for your help! Stop telling you that I have it configured so that it always asks me where I want to save my downloads and regardless of where I tried to save them it always prevents me from doing so, I think as @Pathduck told me the problem is in my antivirus, do you know if there is any configuration in Avast exceptions for downloads? Thanks again!

@jmaraher There was this issue some days ago from a user with a similar problem and Avast installed:
https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/429858I don't exactly know what they meant by "I had to explicitly allow it" as there AFAIK is no setting in Avast to "allow downloads" from a browser. You can add an exception to Avast, either a program or a folder, and Avast will not scan it.
I have run Avast Premium for years, and have never had such an issue with Avast, so maybe this is only in the free version.
I would start by temporarily disabling the Avast shields and then seeing if the download work again. Then it's Avast causing the problem.
If you find out that Avast is the cause I would create a support request to Avast:

@Pathduck I think I found the solution! In AVAST you go to settings, then in General you choose the option "Blocked and allowed applications", then you choose "Allow Application", when you click here a new window appears where it begins to load the list of applications that you have installed on your PC When you do, you look for Vivaldi and select it, then it asks you if you are sure to add it, you click on add and that's it! Vivaldi will then appear in a list of allowed applications. I already checked downloading with Avast enabled after this setup and it was able to run the download without any problems! Thanks for your help in guiding me to the solution, I hope it will also help others who have had the same problem!

Jmaraher, thanks for explaining the steps to follow with Avast! Unfortunately, it's not Avast for me. I still think it's something wrong with Vivaldi itself, more probably with my profile and not with the browser. I am one of the oldest Vivaldi members, so I guess my settings are somewhere lost in a distant corner of the Icelandic server.
I will probably contact the support team at some point if I see that the problem persists.

Hello, Avast does not seem to be impacted, I noticed that the downloads to the c: drive are simulated with 0 bytes in the end and no confirmation displayed. The displayed status is: suspended. By relaunching, it starts again but always with 0 bytes. Downloads are possible without ambiguity to USB keys for example. -
(Here is a gif describing what I see. I save firstly the image in Desktop and it doesn't work, the second attempt is in Downloads and it's ok. Cleaning the list of downloaded files works also differently for the file when it's at 0 kb and when it's successfully downloaded).

C'est pareil avec juste une nuance, l'accès au disque dur c:\ est refuse comme s'il n'y avait pas de permission. Un dysfonctionnement à la Linux sur Win 10.
It's the same with just one qualification, access to the hard drive c: is denied as if there was no permission. A Linux-style malfunction on Win 10.

Gwen-Dragon, I used the function of recording the screen in Windows 10 (Windows button + G) so as to create am mp4, then I went online and converted it to a gif. When you capture with Windows, it apparently records only Vivaldi's behaviour and not the context menu (right click on image > Save image as) and the "Save as" box afterwards. I don't know why. Probably because the behaviour of only one app/program can be recorded at a time, and not the entire screen.
