Menu emoji customization
-
@luetage Separators are only available if the bookmarks are sorted manually.
-
@Pesala Yeah, makes sense. I couldn’t explain why it shows for Notes page, but that’s because it always sorts by title but it has an “off” setting by clicking until no arrow shows and that’s what I had running.

Hi,
Sync Devices are Emojifable too.
-
@Zalex108 By changing the hostname?

No, in Vivaldi Sync identification device.
Hostname is used just on "Sent to" on Linux.
At list works that way here. -
@Zalex108 Oh ok, yeah. I don’t think it’s a good idea putting an emoji in your hostname anyway. Not sure whether it would be discoverable from the network afterwards.

I suppose but I don't know on W10, nor on MacOS (latests).
On W7 "·" is transformed to "b7" on the T·Rex machines and had problems sometimes connecting but I use the IP Address instead.
Trying Linux this days, read that some characters are not valid (Dot ., UnderScore _) because the Net discovery, since tried the UnderScore and didn't allowed me to write it, but after finish the installation, using Terminal it works, despite that, once you open the Terminal again or go to Net it appears just the beginning (using Dots) or all together (using UnderScores), but it depends also on the Distro and Version.
So, Dash (-) (with Start-End limitations), is the only symbol allowed if I recall.
Good to arise the question to update the Emojify | Sync Devices Topic.
Thanks--
How would and Indian, Chinese... computer name look¿ -

I finally figured out what breaks the emoji display in the Vivaldi Button Menu.
It’s the “Alt Key for Main Menu” setting in
vivaldi://settings/keyboard/
. When the setting is turned on, the question marks will display as soon as you open a new window. When turned off, the question marks disappear immediately (current window). No special characters should be used when testing, like explained on first page of this topic. Could somebody test and confirm this please? When we are sure I can do a bug report. This has been fixed in latest snapshot it seems.

@guigirl Disabling alt-menu fixed it, now you can use alt-menu and it will still work.
And well done on my fast reply. I’ll present myself with a trophy 🦚

Hey!
Just found this topic as I was looking through the forums to check where I could find that some of my Emoji's were not working. I tried your link of Emojipedia, however I found that not all of the Emoji's I copy from there are working.
If anyone else is also facing the same problem, I tried using Copy Paste Emoji and found that most of these Emojis are working.
I'm specifically referring to the Face in Cloud Emoji and the Check Box with Check mark emoji.
-
@keeskloost Both work in my case, pasted from emojipedia:
😶🌫️☑️
But it doesn’t really matter where you get them from, it’s only important that your own emoji font is being displayed and not some sort of image, so you know it will work. “Face in Cloud” seems to be relatively new, not many users will be able to render it. -
Hey Luetage, thanks a lot. Yeah I now see also that the Face in cloud renders () as two seperate Emojis on some devices (such as Windows itself).
Thank you for your help. I will try different Emoji's

I customized the menus a bit and in meanwhile exported the list in notepad++

@Hadden89 It’s a bit sad. When this feature was introduced I edited every single menu, removing and adding entries, adding emoji to almost all entries and creating special folders to keep the amount of entries in check. But since the menus don’t sync I’ve given up on it. Nowadays I don’t add a single entry and only add emoji for the main menu and two or three other entries in different menus. It’s far too much work to recreate this on fresh profiles. Moreover I try to never touch menus and do everything through quick commands, at least what’s possible. Sync needs to step up, then I will take a look at it again. Vivaldi did a great job, but you can’t expect users to spend time on it over and over and over again.
-
@luetage I never truly did it because the menu were too much overcrowded. But yeah, without an import/export menu layout I highly doubt to do this operation again. So I really have to hope the profile 1 never dies*
Also I skipped some menus because mixing with the true icons is not a pleasent layout. -
@luetage My customised menu has not changed since I did this. How many devices do you need to customise?
-
@Pesala emojifing all-to-most menus even in two single profiles is very very annoying to do.
If the profile dies, everything is lost; layout and emojis.
@luetage Probably import/export would be better for menus. Different layouts for different profiles.
Enforcing sync for them could be not always wanted. -
@Hadden89 I think you are putting the cart before the horse.
The main reason for needing emoji is that the default menus are too long. First, edit the menus to remove every item that you never or seldom use. Second, remove submenu as far as possible for quicker navigation. Lastly, add emojis for some items to add as visual clues for quick selection.

@Pesala Is what I did; but the whole process took time: about 9 months
