More fixes and another minor Chromium bump – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2088.7

@ugly Yes,
I have also seen this problem, I think if you close a tab, it will show you the last tab viewed by default. -
In some cases the Focus on the Start Page disappears, e.g. when you open in the 1 tab any selected dial and close it by ctrl+w, you will see that the focus is gone.

@Alacho Umm, sorry if I’ve caused you several hours of headache; I’ve just realised that that
too long
could be interpreted as several seconds or minutes. Nope, that hasn’t happened. It just used to be opening instantly, while now it sometimes takes a more noticeable amount of time (200 ms?). It’s just an interruption of my workflow (I often use muscle-memorised fast key sequences such as
Ctl-Sft-p
,v
,f
,Enter
), but it doesn’t mean the of of the world.I apologise once again for this mistake.

@hlehyaric Thanks. That helps a lot.

Quick comment on what the entry below includes:
- Make Google components optional (Hangouts, Cast, Cloud Print) (VB-66018)
This just adds the possibility to turn off loading of some bundled extensions in ExternalComponentLoader::ExternalComponentLoader and ComponentLoader::AddDefaultComponentExtensions. See Chromium Code Search
Turning off:
Cloud print: Will break the Google Cloud Print service (https://www.google.com/cloudprint/learn/)
Crypto Token: Will break two-factor authentication using hardware.
Hangouts: Will break screen-sharing in Hangouts.
Chromecast media-router: Will break Chromecasting.
Web Store: Will not open some extension-APIs to the Google Web Store. (webstore app)
PDF Viewer: Will disable the internal PDF viewer. -
@other Thanks for the explanation. I don't use most of these so I can try disabling them and see how it goes.

Not sure if it's this snapshot, or just a coincidence, but I downloaded the update late last night and today, four times, when I closed the single open tab, it closes the tab leaving no tabs and clicking the + that normally opens a new tab doesn't work. I have to close Vivaldi and re-open it. It doesn't happen every time I close the single open tab, but so far it has happened four times.

@other Thank you so much for the explanation!
For now I've disabled everything but the Web Store and PDF Viewer.
Silly you can't have screen sharing in Hangouts without an extra component, when others like Whereby do it "natively". Unless you'd need this component for sharing there as well?

@wpcoe I've not seen that exact issue, but there's a known bug already in latest snap with closing the last tab. I'm pretty sure they're aware of this one as well, but if you're able to find a way to consistently reproduce the issue then please report it.
https://vivaldi.com/bugreport/ -
a bug: creating new tab always opens last even if preference is set after active
Edit: argh! I should be more careful, it's already been reported. Consider this a confirmation then and sorry for the duplicate report.
-
@vulture or ask a mod to close the duplicate, which make the things faster

I think this is a new issue with this snapshot:
Closing a tab while a fullscreen video is playing results in the Vivaldi UI being hidden.
I tested while playing a YouTube video. Clicked the YouTube video fullscreen playback button. Then closed the tab while the video was playing in fullscreen using a mouse gesture.

@ugly oh don't think that, this is as old as

A squahed bug sadly has reincarnated with this Snapshot
3.5.2088.7 / Chrome 86.0.4240.112
. Bwaaaaah.Summary: Searx POST unavailable/defective from Search Field.
Key: VB-68138
Project: Vivaldi Browser
Environment: Vivaldi version: 3.1.1929.3
Operating System: Linux x86.64
Device model:
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/83.0.4103.75 Safari/537.36 Vivaldi/3.1.1929.3
Searx POST unavailable/defective from Search Field.Unlike the original manifestation of this bug, now it afflicts more than only Searx POST. Even other search engines are misbehaving; losing my search text & just delivering their default landing pages [when set to POST; they still work ok in GET].
I confirmed this also with my Test profile [no extensions or hooks active].
Stable continues to work correctly in this regard.
PS: All the above applies only to the primary Search tab setting for
Always Search in New Tab
being enabled; when it's disabled, correct outcomes still arise [but this is no good because this obliterates the active tab's current contents with the search result]. -
@Gwen-Dragon Vielen dank Lilo. Fwiw, though it might be redundant, five hours ago immediately after i made my post here, i replied to the bug-report email i had received back when i first reported it. In my new email today i mentioned what i wrote here, with a link to my post. So, hopefully i've given the Devs enough info to be able to investigate.

@ugly: yes, same-ish here. Only, for me, the behaviour is more consistent. No matter what the last active tab was, whenever I close the active tab, it sets me back to the first in order (left most).

@nutcracker said in More fixes and another minor Chromium bump – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2088.7:
There are times that by closing the last tab I get a completely blank tab bar with only one "+" in the beginning.
I have recieved mail about developers working on VB-48891 (if browser is working for a long time, then at exit, large CPU usage happens) and then this bug happened.
Nice solution. If you can't use browser for a long time, then it will not be hanging anymore (that was a joke. but who knows) -
