Quite an unfortunate naming decision - Not *our* Vivaldi.

For a while now there have been references to "Vivaldi" as a new Chromebook keyboard firmware for future devices. References in Chromium OS repositories have pointed to expanded keyboard layouts and other new features with Vivaldi. Coming with the Linux 5.10 kernel is now a new HID driver for supporting some of the differences with Vivaldi.
-
Maybe someone in the HID group is a Vivaldi fan :3
-
There are a couple more Vivaldi around. If it’s not another browser, there’s not much our Vivaldi can do about it I believe. As far as I can remember some of these even predate Vivaldi browser.
-
In my village we have a pizzeria called Vivaldi, but the owner does not know our browser.
-
@Catweazle Mr. Ambassador, you better do something about it. Can’t have a pizzeria with this fine a name using Google Chrome or whatever.

I heard a rumour there was even this bloke once who used to muck about with semi-quavers & crotchets, who had the unmitigated gall to also grab this name. Some peeps are so brazen!
-
@luetage , I've tried, but I don't think it's going to have much effect. He makes very good pizzas, but as a computer point he hardly know what the difference between a browser and a search engine is.

The... what? They're different?
-
@Steffie , Windows, Edge and a manual next to the PC
-
@Catweazle If i had an Edge next to a window, i would push.
-
@Steffie , convincing people of vivaldi's advantages who barely use the computer more to check mail doesn't make much sense. For him it's just to write down his pizzeria orders. It's like trying to sell a refrigerator to an Eskimo.
-
@Catweazle For someone like that, you might be better off promoting Brave. Brave is basically a better Chrome then Chrome. More secure, less Google spying. That's worthwhile, even if you only use the basic functions of a web-browser.
Of course, Brave is no Vivaldi! If you want something more then just basic browser functions, Vivaldi's the way to go.
-
@Eggcorn , I have also used Brave for a season, but I have left it due to some strange traffic and redirects to different cryptominer sites, for this I have changed to UR as a second browser, it is even better shielded and privacy oriented than Brave. It is a French browser. Also simple like Brave, but very good privacy tools.
-
Hypocritical as i freely acknowledge it to be coming from me of all people, but this thread was not about alternative browsers, nor comparisons of Brave vs V. Afaik we already have a dedicated thread for that.
Now i feel all dirty.
-
@Steffie I can't stand OT either…
-
@Steffie Well, getting back on topic: Is it really a problem, that some keyboard firmware is named "Vivaldi"? How often will the browser be confused with the firmware?
-
Vivaldi is unfortunately not a protected name (see Pizzeria). Maybe Google has chosen this for the Chromebook as well, to confuse users.
