USA Today loading fix – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2009.3

@iPristy said in USA Today loading fix – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2009.3:
@rseiler: There was on some other sites too that i have reported, read from the last desktop snapshot before this one at the bottom.
OK, for anyone wondering, it was an issue in Vivaldi with the Cross-Origin-Opener-Policy flag.
-
@Steffie Well this is becoming a bit sad-making.
Current Status:
in my real Arch Tower, in my Arch VM, & just now further verified in my EndeavourOS [= Arch-based] VM, this new SS still fails to launch, always giving that same error msg;
Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped)
I know it's not caused by some weird Hooks incompatibility, coz neither of the VM V-SS's has Hooks installed.
Fwiw, whilst Tower & the Arch VMs' V-SS was simply a "routine" update via
herecura
repo, the EOS instance was a virgin installation only within the last hour [again fromherecura
].A further twist, proving that it is not something simple like a bad
herecura
build this time, is that i've received offline confirmation from a friend who also uses Arch KDE, & who recently switched to V-SS [viaherecura
], that for her this update went fine & her new V-SS still runs fine.@Ruarí -- any ideas pls?
Further Edit.In another VM, ArchLabs Plasma, i built it locally from AUR, not installed from
herecura
. Failed to launch with identical error. To ensure that it's not some esoteric conflict with any Plasma package [& pretending desperately that i don't already know that my Plasmoidal friend is not having this pain], i just now experimented in my Anarchy Linux VM [uses Cinnamon not KDE] by adding
herecura
then installing its V-SS. Failed to launch with identical error.Gaaaaaaah.
Yet Another Edit, Yet Another Disappointment!solydxk-vm[~] 13:49:22 Sat Aug 15 $> vivaldi-snapshot Trace/breakpoint trap solydxk-vm[~] 14:02:21 Sat Aug 15 $> apt version vivaldi-snapshot 3.3.2009.3-1 solydxk-vm[~] 14:02:51 Sat Aug 15 $>
I give up.
My friend suggested that maybe i forgot to apply the
UpsideDown Patch
for this new version... i am beginning to think she's right...
Each of the preceding failed attempts to make this new Snapshot launch, occurred on my Arch Tower, either directly on her SSD, or in one of several of her VMs.Now, to eliminate some voodoo spell that might have been cast on Tower without me knowing, i have just tried a virgin install of this Snapshot on my Lappy's SSD [SparkyLinux MATE (Debian Testing)]. I installed it via
apt
from the Vivaldi repo added months ago when i installed Stable [which runs fine].Result = identical failure to launch!
steffie@xpsl501x[~] 15:55:01 Sat Aug 15 $> vivaldi-snapshot Trace/breakpoint trap steffie@xpsl501x[~] 15:56:07 Sat Aug 15 $>
Notwithstanding that others have somehow had success in their Nixes with this new Snapshot, in my opinion it is an ex-parrot.
VB-70690. -
@komposten: Well as I said everything including saves and install folder is gone from the bug. This will be technically a clean install. I forgot to mention I also have sync account with all important things saved..
-
I had the same problem with the missing 2.7 directory. I tried running snapshot installer from blog (I only had Snapshot version installed, and only system-wide), but without success. Then I tried running the uninstaller first (without deleting browser data) then re-running the installer (Vivaldi.3.3.2009.3.x64.exe), but still having the same issue. I've reported this as VB-70682, and replied to the email to attach my installer log.
I would add, for folks that ran into this issue, installing the previous version after uninstalling this version (just don't check the box to delete the browsing data) brought Vivaldi back for me. I've reported this as VB-70682, and replied to the email to attach my installer log.
-
@keeganwitt: Also reported it, the browser version mensiond in the error was 1.0.303.48, but I'm guessing it's the same bug. I'll try your fix with uninstall and applying the older snapshot.

@Gwen-Dragon said in USA Today loading fix – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2009.3:@CantankRus @Steffie Does it start with a temporary profile?
vivaldi-snapshot --user-data-dir="/tmp/TESTVIV"
If not, are there any messages in syslog when Vivaldi starts ?
Well, whilst i have not tried these explicit steps, my two detailed posts document that it is not only pre-existing installations that fail to launch -- it is also brand-new virgin Snapshot installations today, that have never before existed, & which currently have NO existing profile because they do not launch to be able to create one.
I have not yet examined the Journal, but as i already posted hours ago the common message in
konsole
isTrace/breakpoint trap
-- i do not know what that means.
From my Arch VM, just a moment ago:archlinuxVM[~] $> vivaldi-snapshot --user-data-dir="/tmp/TESTVIV" Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped)

I see that + is back for more speed dials but i don't have it in 3.2, is that a regression of 3.2? I don't use this function anyway...

This one can't even install for me, going back to previous.

That works fine in both this current snapshot and the previous snapshot.
It really only seems like the Vivaldi UI has the graphical corruption. I don't see any issues on webpages.
-
I have no saved passwords in my settings, and I can't add a new password.
-
@zoli62 This is a sign of a corrupted Login Data file. A new file would be necessary in such a case. (Rename the old one, and Vivaldi will create a new one.) That is, assuming you even have password saving enabled in your settings.
-
I'm so glad that the developer's issued this latest snapshot that fixes the site's that are part of usa today so they load correctly now.
Thanks,

Thanks devs for fixing the USA Today bug! This also fixed the local newspaper site that I subscribe to!
