Vivaldi keeps logging me out after closing the browser
-
Hi everyone,
After doing a recent PC upgrade, I have this problem that whenever I close the browser and start it up, it logs me out from all the website I've been previously logged in.
Also, I do not see the option to save the login info anymore ( account/ email and password ).Basically, my previous Windows installation was on a HDD ( which I still use, nothing has been deleted from the HDD ), though with the upgrade I've got a new SSD and new Windows installation on the SSD.
Since this upgrade, whenever I visit a website where previously ( before the upgrade ) Vivaldi used to remember the login information, I am forced to type the info again.
What I've tried so far:
- Settings --> Privacy --> Accept Cookies: ALL & Third Party Cookies are not blocked
2. Uninstall Vivaldi, install again
3. Rename the " Default " folder located in C-->Users--> my user --> AppData --> Local --> Vivaldi
4. Remove the files " cookies " and " cookies-journal " ( I dont seem to have the cookies-journal file anymore )
5. Clean temporary & registry files using CCleanerI do not have any extensions that are related to saving passwords.
NOTE: I did have some malware found after running a scan with the default Windows anti-virus software, as well as with Malwarebytes and the viruses were removed ( except one which could not be fully removed by the Windows anti-virus, but now I do not see it anymore, so perhaps it's been removed ).Does anyone have any idea what I should do next to fix this ?
Thanks.

I've just tried that for a few sites, and it doesnt work.

@Vladburn I suspect, since you have CCleaner installed, that you have enabled the auto-clean feature. This will clean cookies on a regular basis. You need to go into it and disable the setting to clear cookies (and passwords etc). Or disable auto-clean.
-
@Pathduck
CCleaner does not star with Windows, I have to start it manually, and I went through the settings, I did not find any " auto-clean " feature, may you please tell me where I can find that ?Also, I've just installed another web browser, and this problem does not apply to the new browser, it only applies to Vivaldi.
-
@Vladburn OK I think the auto-clean is a Pro feature in CCleaner. Maybe you have some other software on your system clearing cookies on a regular basis, like a AV or security/privacy software?
All we know is that logins are related to cookies. And if you're being logged out, something is clearing cookies, this does not happen by magic.
Here's a test:
- Choose a site you want to be logged in to
- Go to Vivaldi Settings > Privacy > Cookies
- Filter on the domain name and note the number of cookies
- Click on the domain so cookies are listed and note down the names or do a screenshot.
- Recreate or wait for the issue when you're being logged out. Don't log back in.
- Look at the cookies for the site and compare.
It could also be an extension, I assume you've already tested in a clean profile?

@Vladburn It's something that Windows10 Buile 2004 is doing to Vivaldi. Earlier versions do not suffer it. If you don't have 2004, then it's something else doing it on your machine. Some security apps won't let Vivaldi save data because it's not "trusted."

That makes perfect sense, I just checked and I have Windows 10 Build 2004.
So basically, that means there is nothing else I can do except try to downgrade the Windows build version or wait for a newer one to come out, I suppose ? -
@Vladburn The devs will get it figured out at some point.
-
@Vladburn Did you try my suggestion?
I strongly doubt Win10 2004 update is what's causing this. Maybe, just maybe, Windows Defender now contains something that deletes cookies from all browsers on a regular basis... doubt it though.
I'm currently forcing an update to v. 2004 after a full system backup. I guess I'll soon find out if the Win update is the cause.
-
@Pathduck My 2004 systems gained the problem with the 2004 update. My 1909 systems and my 1903 system do not have the problem.
-
@Ayespy Correlation does not necessarily imply causation
And if it actually is caused by the update, then someone needs to investigate what's actually happening. I'm happy to do so once I get my system updated, if I get the same issue that is.
Then again, there's a lot of variables here. No way of knowing what else might be a common feature of systems where this happens.
-
@Pathduck So far everyone I've heard from, including other internal testers, has had the problem from the moment their computer re-started at the end of the 2004 update. So, lots of luck, there
-
OK - the update to 2004 went smoothly, no major issues discovered so far. And Vivaldi still keeps me logged in after restarting the browser, and still prompts to save credentials. Both in my standard Snapshot profile and a clean Stable profile. Maybe my system is special, or I just got lucky, don't know.
From the OP's post:
whenever I close the browser and start it up, it logs me out from all the website I've been previously logged in.
This should be relatively easy to reproduce in a clean profile, as it apparently happens every time the browser is closed. The user says they have tried renaming the Default profile, which should mean a clean profile, but not sure exactly what they did to try to reproduce it after doing so.

@Pathduck hey there, I read all your replies on this blog and the gmail one too and I'm facing the same problem.

I have McAfee and I disabled it
I have Windscribe I disabled that too
I accepted all the cookies but still no luck .Now my windows edition: Windows 11 Home Single Language
Version: 22H2now I would like to ask is there any solution for this issue ?

@thisisraizel09 Hello and Welcome to the Vivaldi Community
The only reason for getting signed out of web sites is cookies are being cleared.
Please try all the troubleshooting steps, including testing in a clean profile and disabling extensions:
