(History of) Vivaldi Feature Requests

Start bar!
saved so much timehow exactly did you use it?
Sorry for getting back so late, I also have this in another thread here:
https://vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/all/1946-feature-request-start-barWhen I don't want to follow a link on the current webpage, but instead change where this tab is displaying entirely, I just click in the url bar. This gives me multiple options. I can as usual start a web search by simply typing my query, but now cos of the start bar, I also have within a tiny move of the mouse, the option to go to my home page, to go to my bookmarks and to see the top 10 most popular places I visit⦠I guess it's a convenient way to see all of your options in one place, rather than deciding beforehand where you want to go.
It's such a handy feature that I have never seen before on any other browser. I really think that it increases efficiency and usability. So much handier than closing a tab and opening a new one. And you can decide where and what you want to do all within a small mouse move. I go mad every day without it!

I like this suggestion of checksums being calculated at the same time as downloads. This would be nice if you could choose a checksum file along with your download to verify the file's authenticity within the download context.
-
Please make an option to not load tabs opened in background until they are selected.

Hi again.
In the email client, I would also like to see support for Digital Signatures. Signed received messages and signing out going messages.
Also SASL External Authentication.
β
Kind regardsStephen.

The feature I miss on Opera 12, tab cycling using right click+mouse wheel
-
Been using the browser for a few months, thought it was time to update my wishlist and bug list
Wishlist
β------- Session Management (like Opera 12's)
- In Settings, have a Browse button to select the default download location instead of just typing in a path
- Downloads show download speed & time remaining (and possibly the source URL it's downloading from as well)
- Open link in background option in right-click menu (works like ctrl-click)
- Plugin click-to-play option (for both Flash and HTML5 if possible)
- Extensions manager/better extension compatibility (ie Adblock Plus does not install)
- Extensions show on toolbar so we can access the extension's options
- Option to disable password manager/stop it from asking to save passwords
- Javascript options/controls
- Confirm exit if downloads are still running in background
- Popup blocker??
- drag/detach tabs out or into window
- When typing in URL, don't autocomplete with a full URL link from history, only autocomplete the domain name
Bugs
- Random UI crashes (not reproducible), can't re-launch unless you end the Vivaldi processes in Task Manager
- On an open page, if I click in the address bar and backspace all the way to delete the URL it re-populates the URL bar with the open page's URL
-
Nice! I'm really pleased about this project!
What I miss in all Browsers (beside Opera 12) is the numerical speed dial. So that I simply press Ctrl-T/L, a number and return to open the Speed-Dial with the given index in a new Tab/same Window. I loved this feature because I didn't have to grab for the mouse anymore just to open a speed dial (which made it to a real speed dial for me).

Tab stacking is sweet. Being able to drag and rop tabs within a tab stack to reorder them would be sweeter

Hi all,
I have now used Opera 30.0.1835.55453 for some time.
Mostly the user experience with Opera 30.0.1835.55453 has been irritating.
Many features are different when compared to Opera 12.17.Some examples.
After downloading a PDF tile there is a PDF figure on the download page.
However - clicking PDF figure opens PDF file INSIDE Opera - not in default PDF viewer program. With Opera 12.17 I had specific settings for PDF files.
In ALL cases PDF files were not opened inside Opera 12.17 - they were automatically downloaded to the dedicated download folder.
With Opera 30.0.1835.55453 is seems that the default setting is to first open all PDF files INSIDE Opera.
Opera 12.17 could remember 50 000 addresses of visited web sites.
It was a good feature.New tab - is NOT like in Opera 12.17.
in Opera 12.17 could open a tab for background or as a new active tab.
Opera 30.0.1835.55453 has just ONE option for tabs.
Copying text - Opera 12.17 copied just the text - not font settings of text.
This was very good when copying some texts to own documents (e.g. with LibreOffice)
Opera 30.0.1835.55453 copies font settings of the copied text .
When copying a web page address Opera 30.0.1835.55453 does not include "http://" for a web page address - e.g. only www.opera.com -> NOT http://www.opera.com/
Looking RSS feeds was possible with Opera 12.17 - Opera 30.0.1835.55453 does not read RSS feeds.
Summary:
- I was a faithful Opera user for years.
- Many features in Opera 12.17 were excellent when compared to other web browsers.
What to do with Vivaldi?
Possibly Vivaldi can implement SOME of the Opera 12.17 features.
Possibly Vivaldi can not implement ALL of the Opera 12.17 features.
In any case there will be many learning processes with Vivaldi - possibly all good Opera 12.17 features can not be implemented.
With kind regards.

I miss the ability to receive search suggestions. In old-Opera we could do it like this:
www.favbrowser.com/enable-google-search-suggestions-in-opera/
Hopefully with Vivaldi you can do it from GUI instead of editing an file though. -
Also, "Find in page" bar, should disappear when I click "Esc".
It's kinda annoying that I have to click the "X" on it to get rid of it :pinch:
-
Option for visible mouse gestures (drawing a line during the guesture, and a text with the recognized function in the statusbar like "DR - close tab")
-
A more visible progressbar, not (only) in the addressbar and with a lot more contrast.
-
Tray Icon Notifications:
An important Mail feature to me is some kind of a tray icon that changes when new mail arrives. That way the browser can be run minimized (minimize to tray would be a nice feature too) or be covered by another window, and I can see if there is new mail.
The old Opera had a decent tray icon, but never quite got the ability to minimize to tray, at least not in linux. At least I don't think it did.
Keep up the awesome work, this is my new daily-driver browser!

So, here's the thing. I really want to see one specific feature. There's an operating system which is growing very quickly in market share. Simple, fairly fast, and only has one browser option. I'm actually using the OS as we speak, so I may have a bit of a bias. ChromeOS needs alternatives and Vivaldi seems like the perfect option available. Sure, I could toss Ubuntu in a shell. Then again, how many people are uncomfortable with running Linux but want more features than what Chrome has to offer? People would be happy downloading and installing a browser rather than attempting to use any number of Linux flavors.
-
One just needs to remember that Chrome OS is not an option-friendly system.
Per the ChromeBook Central Help Forum in response to being asked about installing an additional browser:
"No.
Chromebooks run Chrome OS. Essentially the Chrome browser is the operating system.
You cannot install any third-party software, including other browsers."
-
Actually, Opera Mini is available. Sure, it's fat and ugly on a Chromebook but it is still there. It's not impossible to make a browser for ChromeOS.
-
when you make the sessions management, give us the option to select what site we would like to load from a session
and too an option to delete sites from a session -
Personally I hope that over time, Vivaldi develops a really comprehensive session management feature set. I don't know how many other people use sessions, but I really like them and use them a lot in Opera 12.
-
Also it is really an urgent feature for me that when I select some text and right click, the search feature uses my current default search engine (which happens to be Bing right now) rather than forcing a Google search. I hope this will be fixed really soon.
