Configurable menus and full page notes manager – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1921.3
-
@leegb11 You could add the command Clone Selected Tabs anywhere on the main menu and then rename it to whatever you wish.
Editing of context menus will come later.

@Joyoo Autoupdate was disabled in this and previous build for a reason in case you haven't noticed.
[Windows][Media] Directly loaded .mp4 files can fail to play if a streamed video is not already loaded in that session (VB-67543)
[Windows] Autoupdate to this build is disabled because of VB-67543 (above): download manually if you want to test -
@Pesala said in Configurable menus and full page notes manager – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1921.3:
Import and Export for User Settings could probably achieve the same end without over-complicating the UI.
It would allow the sharing of setups via the forum or between colleagues, while also serving as a backup. It would be great
The same for exporting selected bookmarks (folders) to send to friends. I don't remember if the Opera Classic had it, but I would like. -
@nikkell Yes, but now it's fine. Mainly when I used to start the browser, the Vmenu wasn't usable.
-
@gwen-dragon: Yes, I received a notice about it. Thank you for your help.
-
@npro Thank You for for this info...
-
just did clean reinstall of snapshot and when i was configuring my setting i notice that qwant is missing from default search engines ... when it happen and if it's not secret why ???
-
@oinodin It is a good question.
An article on the Vivaldi Blog says Why Qwant was added, and another says why Soprano Pierre creuseveau uses it but no one said why it was removed.
Users might infer that it is no longer private, but I am sure that Gwen is right, it is because Vivaldi no longer gets paid to include it by default.
-
@gwen-dragon: yes fresh profile ... or probably i did sync ... just did clean reinstall coz start have to many issues with stability
mising qwant it's not big deal i was only curious what happened thanks for answer -
[Sorry. Misunderstood.]

Just wondering: Why do the sets have to be separate at all times? Why not provide an option for the people who only want to use one set? As of now, there is no easy way to duplicate menu 1 to menu 2, and for someone who wants his menu super customized no matter if it's on the window or hidden beneath a button, this is not very user friendly.
Best hopes for this feature's future!
-
@infosrefanvlad It is a very useful feature. Users will tend to prefer either the Button menu or the Horizontal menu bar.
I have customised the Button menu to remove the items that I rarely use. However, I can use my shortcut of Ctrl+M to toggle the Horizontal menu, where the default menus can be accessed.
Think of it as a toolbox with a tray in the top holding your frequently used tools, with the rarely used ones in the bottom of the box. Mostly, you just use the tools in the light-weight tray, but without losing access to the others should you ever need them.
-
@Pesala Well, for a while there, Qwant was literally blocking Vivaldi and tho Vivaldi tried to get them to correct that, no progress was made and then Qwant was removed as a search option in Vivaldi.
-
@Ayespy Qwant was effectively and effectually blocking Vivaldi on desktop and mobile.
-
@hlehyaric Exactly.
-
@hlehyaric was there a reason for Qwant to do that? Anyone here know the story?
-
@mossman It was a change in software. Vivaldi was being blocked as being unique so users were deemed to be easily identified and tracked by websites. You landed on a page (not Qwant homepage) with that information, where Qwant suggested you to switch to an updated and more privacy-oriented browser. It was a quasi-ad for Firefox.

@pesala: It is useful for many, myself included. I'm excited for the feature. But with a simple menu layout duplication button it could be even better for some people.
I use 2 layouts: one for work and one for web surfing. The work one looks ugly, but is efficient. The other one looks normal, but it's a pain to use when I'm in a hurry.
Normally, I use the button. I click it, then click File, then Open Tab. (just an example) But for the work layout, I use the horizontal menu, because I can just click File, then Open Tab, with no extra menu button to click beforehand. Even better, I can just comfortably use my keyboard's alt and arrow keys, which are always within reach, knowing that I will always see what I wanna click before clicking it. Something that my normal layout doesn't offer.
I like my menu to be hidden normally, but to be visible when working. And for consistency reasons, I need it to be the same. But right now it's a hassle to change the horizontal menu once, then also change the hidden menu the same way.
Maybe it's just me or I've become spoiled. Anyway, the feature's great already; just not perfect for me in particular. Others may or may not share my opinion, and that's fine.

@hlehyaric I did not know anything at all about this history. What naughty behaviour! Right now, i have just deleted Q from my list of alternative SEs installed. No loss for me - i always found its results poor & its UI ugly & inefficient.
