Solved Cannot delete all saved passwords
-
I am fairly new to Vivaldi, having just migrated from Chrome. Unfortunately I accidentally included saved passwords when I imported stuff from Chrome. I would like to delete all saved passwords in Vivaldi. I did this through Tools > Delete Browsing Data, selecting All Time and Passwords. That didn't work at all. When I go back to Settings > Privacy > Passwords, I still see all my saved passwords imported from Chrome.
What's the proper way of deleting all saved passwords?
Thanks.

I can not reproduce the issue anymore on 5.4 Stable+5.5 RC1 Snapshot
5.4 Android 10.
I will close bug VB-76628 "Deleting a saved password on one of my devices does NOT delete it from any of my other devices.". -
Welcome to the forums and enjoy Vivaldi Browser
Vivaldi Browser Help Center is available by hitting F1 key
Take your time to read the Community Code of ConductThat's correct way and place to delete password. You select the password and click on the X, don't you? If no
ni, how do you delete them. The address bellow also manage passwords.vivaldi://settings/passwords
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Edited: typo

@lamarca I was hoping there's a way to bulk delete all saved passwords. I have an awful lot of saved passwords, most of which are no longer needed/wanted. It would be diabolical to delete them one by one.
-
@danywu TMK there is no possibility to mass delete there.
-
@danywu It's informational, not a suggestion, just in case.
The name the file where the passwd are encrypted stored is Login\ Data. More info, hit F1https://help.vivaldi.com/article/full-reset-of-vivaldi/#backup โ scroll down to see the list

I found this page via F1:
https://help.vivaldi.com/article/password-management/
... which includes the following information:To delete all passwords at once, go to โVโ menu (on Windows and Linux) > Tools > Delete Browsing Data. Select Passwords (including your Sync login password) and for Delete data for: select All Time.
However, this doesn't seem to have any effect. Has the functionality been disabled for some reason?
It would be useful to have it available as stated in the documentation. After importing data from Chrome, it became clear how out-of-control my password mismanagement has become, and deleting one-by-one is not a realistic use of a full day. Plus, it's always good if the software operates as the documentation suggests...
Happy to be corrected on this if I've done it wrong
PS love your signature, kahukura! The Earth without Art is just "Eh".

Hi. If you just migrated from another browser the fastest way would be to uninstall Vivaldi and reinstall it fresh. IMO.

Thanks foulke and lamarca - I've done this now twice; full uninstall including deletion of browsing data, then also deleting sync data, and manually deleting first the login data, then the entire user profile data folder, then the profile data folders for both user profiles and the previous actions all at the same time.
After doing the above several times, username and password fields are still populated, and vivaldi://settings/passwords brings up a full list of saved passwords which looks suspiciously identical to my Chrome saved passwords (despite me creating deliberate differences between the two lists). Something is not right here. I've now permanently uninstalled Vivaldi, and I'm about to delete both Vivaldi sync accounts in attempt to make sure my password data is fully removed. I'm assuming this will delete my Vivaldi community accounts at the same time, which will be a shame.
I've got to admit, this is a huge disappointment. I started using Vivaldi way before sync and profiles were implemented, and I love so many of the features such as stacked tabs, tab management in general, tools, the incredible degree of configurability, speed, etc etc. However, not being able to delete passwords leads to concerns over security, and just like that, trust is gone. I really hope these problems are identified and recorded as known issues and not ignored, then fixed quickly. That said, I must admit, I'm going to be cautious about coming back to Vivaldi in the future. It's difficult to put into words quite how disappointed I am about that, as I've been a very vocal advocate over the years. Sorry for venting, this isn't directed at anyone and hopefully doesn't come over as angry - I'm not angry, just concerned. I also appreciate your attempts to help - thank you.

@Kavokei You are welcome and thanks for the feedback. In absence of any idea, my suggestion is to report the issue. It's very unusual.
Please, file a bug report, you will be given a number (VB-xxxxx), please post it here for our follow up. -
@lamarca Thanks for your understanding
here's the bug report reference: VB-61589
I included my email address in my submission, I'm happy to be contacted about the issue, and to reinstall if necessary to carry out further testing on behalf of the team.
I'll email the team as well to find out how I can verify that my data has been deleted.
All the best -
@Kavokei You are welcome. The report will be checked by one of the Devs. In case of missing info, the Team will e-mail.
Keep in touchCheers

I also filed a BUG ticket as I cannot delete PWs en masse either using standard (CTRL+SHIFT+DEL). The PWs still show up in vivaldi://settings/passwords even after uninstall/reinstall with restart of PC too.

I started deleting one by one.. Gave up

@Gwen-Dragon
Thank you very much. Works like a charm. Just to clarify the above steps:
Step 1. Obvious
Step 2. Browser profile folder is (on Windows)
~/AppData/Local/Vivaldi/User DataStep 3. Delete
~/AppData/Local/Vivaldi/User Data/Default/Login Data
~/AppData/Local/Vivaldi/User Data/System Profile/Login Data -
I also have the same issue its not possible to delete saved passwords and get them to sync properly. I have Vivaldi on 3 machines if I delete passwords on 1 it does not propogate the changes to the others, very frustrating. Even using Reset Remote Data in sync option makes no difference.
Pretty sure I had the same issue when I used Chrome previously.
Edit: Just managed to delete all my synced passwords by following this process:
- Sign out of Vivaldi account on all devices except 1 device.
- Delete all passwords via chrome://settings/passwords
- Check vivaldi://sync-internals to see if password sync was successful
- Delete any Login Data files located on other machines, for my android device I cleared app storage and deleted app.
- Log back into Vivaldi on devices and now all my passwords are deleted no synced data on servers now (I assume)...
If anyone can confirm if its possible to check remote data is 100% deleted that would be helpful as I am concered its still lingering somewhere.
Basically what I have found if I have 2 devices open at vivaldi://sync-internals I can see deletions are not propogated between devices. In fact if I log out of one device, delete a password then login to another device the old password is synced again from 2nd device logged in! Its as if state of updates pushed to sync server are not correct, a deletion should be a deletion for synchronisation to be useful.
-
I've noticed this too, deleting a saved password on one of my devices does NOT delete it from any of my other devices. Definitely not the behavior I'd expect in a privacy-conscious browser.
-
@Gwen-Dragon This is not simply Sync taking too long.
In my case, Sync seems to completely ignore deleting passwords. So even if I deleted all passwords on all my devices through the in-browser settings, apparently those passwords are all still saved on a Vivaldi server somewhere since the deletions are not propagated.
I just deleted several passwords on a computer at about 9:25pm. I restarted the browser twice and confirmed "Last synchronization time" was 9:35pm, ~10min after the time when I deleted the passwords. I restarted my computer, and let it synchronize yet another time. Then I opened my mobile browser and waited for it to synchronize (confirming that "Last synchronization time" actually updated). Then I restarted my phone, and restarted my browser, and again confirmed "Last synchronization time" updated. Then I restarted a second computer and opened Vivaldi and confirmed that still those passwords were not deleted in the second computer. Then I restarted a second phone and opened Vivaldi and confirmed that still those passwords were not deleted in the second phone. So it's a sync issue at least between Windows desktop and mobile versions on Samsung Android, and I'd assume it's across all platforms.
Presumably Reset Remote Data would work to delete these, but I'm not ready to redo all my keyboard and browser extension and other settings just to work around a bug with Vivaldi sync.
-
@Gwen-Dragon Thanks, I have submitted VB-76628.
-
it is still existed - cannot mass delete all saved passwords
even if I disable syncing and delete it through 'clear browser data'
