Keep the Overlay Scrollbar missing in Chrome 78
-
As Vivaldi keeps updating, it will be using Chromimum 78 soon, which has removed a the next features from the abou://flags page:
#overlay-scrollbars
#overlay-scrollbars-flash-after-scroll-update
#overlay-scrollbars-flash-when-mouse-enterThese features makes the scrollbar looks way better than the default one, and after years of using them, I haven't found any issues with them. Yet, Chromium 78 removed such flags and I am unable to use them anymore.
So my suggestion is that Vivaldi should keep them so users can still enable such flags.
-
+1, it was better than the traditional one.
-
I would go further than making them stay as flags - just make them a full option.
-
Try running Vivaldi with the target argument
--enable-features=OverlayScrollbar
Can confirm it working on Chrome 79.
-
@madiso works on Vivaldi 2.10.1745.18 / Chrome 79.0.3945.94
let's hope they forget to remove even the cmdline option -

How did you do that? I was using those flags aswell, until they removed it.
-
@hyperboraeer you have to edit the destination path on the Vivaldi icons (on desktop, start menu, eventually on the taskbar if you have pinned Vivaldi to it) by right clicking on the icon, Properties and change the destination path, for example
"C:\Program Files\Vivaldi\Application\vivaldi.exe" --enable-features=OverlayScrollbar
-
Also, just to clarify, "features" aren't quite the same as "flags". Flags are temporary (and nowadays actively removed), while features seem to be permanent and hidden. Some flags get promoted to features.
A tutorial is available here: https://gitlab.com/Madis0/hidden-settings/blob/master/chrome.md#disableenable-more-features-on-desktop

I wish the overlay scrollbar will be THICKER during non-hover state, currently it's too difficult to notice when the page is very long.

@iAN-CooG @madiso
After every update of the snapshot version, the overlay scrollbars are gone, and I need to re-add them in destinations. Am I doing something wrong, or is there a workaround for this? It's just annoying having to close the browser, re-add the flag into destination, and open the browser again. -
@hyperboraeer My icons/links don't get altered after updates, and I'm on latest Vivaldi 2.11.1792.3 snapshot. Win7 32bit.
If anything, the installer relaunches Vivaldi without any cmdline option, so after installation the scrollbars aren't overlaid. Just close and relaunch from the any of desktop icon, from the taskbar if pinned or from startmenu. Each one of those links must be manually edited once to add the cmdline option, of course. -
You could enable Legacy Flags Flag and enable them in the meantime.

@Zalex108 how? where? There are no "Legacy Flags" in vivaldi://flags that I can see
-
@iAN-CooG Mine don't get altered either. The flag command is still typed in destinations, after every vivaldi update, but the overlay scrollbars are gone. So you recommend me to relaunch vivaldi after every update?
It's annoying because after every update it relaunches itself anyways. So I have to close that, and relaunch it manually?
I hope that will work, instead of typing retyping the command in destinations. That's how I did it so far. -
Yes, as said, the installer just runs vivaldi.exe, not the link you have on your desktop, so there are no extra options. You should have noticed by now, or don't you ever close vivaldi?

I meant Temporary Unexpire 78 / 79.
But just tested and for some reason the Scrollbars Flags are not getting saved after relaunch.

Would be nice if the overlay scrollbars could just be added as a vivaldi feature. They really make a difference to the browsing experience.
