Regression fixes – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1705.4
-
@christianl: afaik this is caused by a chromium issue, and not Vivaldi, don't think there is a fix for it other than resetting the profile.
-
for like 3 updates including this one, i can't change anything in CC button on sites as Openload, netu.tv etc or any site that use that video player. I can click on button and it opens the menu but can't use any of the options listed there.
-
@temkem Confirmed, I tried that some days ago like I said in this same thread few hours ago
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/41606/regression-fixes-vivaldi-browser-snapshot-1705-4/13
The only way to make Vivaldi start again is to edit "Local state", find dark and change the @1 to @0
At that point Vivaldi starts again and the flag can be set again to disabled or default. -
Combine all these elements into one block!
And then it will be like chromium settings
chrome://settings/content

@derDay Thanks to all who offered help. It's not a flag; I set them all to default. It's not anything in the "Default" folder, either. I went so far as to delete the entire"User Data" folder (1.8GB!), as well. A standalone version on the desktop functions normally, but a standalone installed in C:program files/vivstandalone does not launch so I'm currently running the desktop version. I found right away that the ability to import passwords from a csv has been removed. AWK! So I restored User Data, reinstalled 1675.11, imported the csv to it, and then imported the passwords to the new version. I'm now back on Vivaldi. Thanks again. BTW I use Norton because my ISP provides it for free, and in the years I've used it it hasn't missed any malware, nor has it thrown any false positives, in contrast to some of the others. It's still a mystery why Viv wouldn't run normally, so I'll probably waste some more time trying to figure it out.

@aronand: Thanks. Can you recommend a workflow for getting my collection of passwords out of the old profile and into the new one? Do I have to go via Export/Import, or can I just copy the "Login Data" file over (staying on the same machine/same user)?
-
@christianl Copying the file will work for same machine, same user. But only for that.
-
Segmentation fault while trying to start on Raspbian (same as with every Snapshot after
2.7.x
)IDK... Does it require latest Raspbian or media libraries or what?...
The last snapshot that worked on my Raspbian was
2.7.1628.28
-
@ayespy: Perfect, thanks!
-
So now devtools is even more broken than before. Thanks guys! Keep the regressions coming...
New bug: You cannot type the letter "T" in console or in element view. The key simply isn't being registered. I mean, wtf?
And the JS breakpoint browser freeze is still an issue.
Please, please, please fix this already.
-
Hm, that didn't work...
- Created a new profile directory after the update, and copied the old "Login Data" file to the same location: no passwords.
- File -> Import Bookmarks and Settings: claims to import passwords, but none are added.
- Exported the old passwords as .csv, try to import after the update: no Import function available, only Export.
I'm on Fedora 31, using the x86_64 rpm, in case that's relevant.

@justjohn I have the same problem. If you right-click on the icon and choose "troubleshoot compatibility" then Vivaldi will start in Windows 8 mode.
-
Menu bug is still there.
-
It's nice to see that icons were fixed. Perhaps new icons will added to 'Tools' drop-down menu? It kinda looks incomplete tbh.
-
@justjohn: What version of windows are you running? Doing a full round of updates could perhaps help you pinpoint the issue, gpu / cpu / os for example. I've personally been unable to reproduce the issue sadly.
-
@schoerb I had exactly the same. Since I'd been on holiday, I turned on the laptop to update Vivaldi and at the same time it installed a bunch of other updates...
After fiddling with different install options I concluded Vivaldi had been blacklisted on one of the many security things on that machine.
Reading this thread, I'm now hopeful I can just wipe the data and install standalone again...
-
@christianl: Same issue. Try this (windows):
0.Installed version with passwords Vivaldi.2.9.1675.11.x64.exe
1.make backup "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Vivaldi"
2.delete files
"%LOCALAPPDATA%\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\Login Data"
"%LOCALAPPDATA%\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\Login Data-journal"
3.instal latest snapshot, e.g. Vivaldi.2.9.1705.4.x64.exe
4.check passwords
It worked for me. -
Note: Sync is enabled.
-
@gwen-dragon: I'll make a video.

I'm on Win10-64 ver 1903, all up to date. I tried removing all traces of Vivaldi (maybe I missed something?) but it would not run after seeming to install normally. A standalone placed on the desktop or in C: viv runs fine, but when I placed it in C:program files/viv it failed to drop User Data. A "normal" install in the original location would run if I used Windows 8 compatibility mode, but passwords did not come through. All seems weird. I did notice that the original User Data was large (1.8 GB) but 1675.11 handled it OK (and still does).
