Random Crashes when using "Find in Page"
-
Did you already inform the Vivaldi Team about that? I opened a bug ticket yesterday because of that.
-
@holebuyer Yes, I did. Thanks also for filing your bug report and for the information that you shared here, in this thread, as well.

@rseiler said in Random Crashes when using "Find in Page":
@nobigbrother He'll have to answer that. Unfortunately, some do use the terms interchangeably. I believe, however, even the VB-49251 description uses it incorrectly, since the freeze (i.e. hang) problem was said to be solved a few weeks ago, while the crash (i.e. Vivaldi gone) problem is what people have been dealing with this week.
I really hope my 2017 problem is fixed! In page search (Ctrl + F) error (freeze).

Latest version of Vivaldi and still crashing with ctrl + f on Windows 7 64bit, MacOS is fine.
-
Hi @AntraX666,
No, the [c]rashes still occur in macOS
There are two kinds IMO:
- Find in page, which require force quitting the application, and;
- Window closure, which crash the application completely

Yeah, the "Find in Page" freeze was fixed but apparently broke again. I found a way to trigger it fairly reliably and filed VB-55475. We're currently testing a fix internally and if all goes well, will make it available to Snapshot users for testing and (hopefully, in the near future) in the Vivaldi 2.7 official release as well.

Now with a newer Vivaldi, I got a real crash (with dump / logs) for the first time, instead of a freeze.
I have reported it as VB-58589:
Environment: Vivaldi version: 2.7.1628.33
Operating System: Windows 10 (x64)
Device model:
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/76.0.3809.137 Safari/537.36 Vivaldi/2.7.1628.33Search in page crashed browser (immediate close and crash dump available)
Steps to reproduce:
Loaded more and more comments
Press Ctrl+F
Type before
Press F3 more than one timeAddress (URL) of faulty page:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzg4rJJNX30Expected behaviour:
Find occurrences in page without crashing then cycling from last to first occurrence.Actual behaviour:
It did find in page.
But I think it crashed once on the last occurrence and I hit F3 againI will probably mention this bug in https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/21583/in-page-search-ctrl-f-error although that topic was about freeze, not crash.
It's the first time that I have a crash instead of a freeze (it's also the first time I get this at all in this new version of Vivaldi). -
@Gwen-Dragon Oh my.
Each time the bug occurs, there is a newer version and I didn't know (I do have checked the warn me of updates in settings, though)...
I have installed it now but there was no ticket related to this Search in the changelogs, so I guess it's still little bit valid, maybe. -
Wow, staff was able to reproduce and is working on a fix!
I'm really grateful and amazed because I try to reproduce but it is so much random that I couldn't myself.
You are incredible. -
@jesus2099 No, YOU are breathtaking!
Cheers for perseverance, maybe another bug gets nailed. -
