@d4l3d For cases such as yours, side-load might be made available. A link direct to the APK, so that you and download it and install it that way.
-
@Ayespy Looking forward to that option. At least it will be worth a try though I'm not expecting miracles.
-
Any timeline on an "apk" from your download page for google non-supported devices?
Or plans to offer it in the Amazon Store for their devices?Downloaded and installed on Kindle Fire Os from apkmirror.
Must download "armaebi-V7a". (86 downloads).
Seems to work. Going to check it out now. -
@greybeard No plans. Simply a possibility.

Well That's better than a straight 'No'. :smiling_face_with_open_mouth:
Either option would enable users with non supported devices to get updates when available. (And stay secure with Vivaldi.)
Another option might be some kind of auto-update, though I'm not sure how that could be implemented(?) at least in a Beta version.
I know this user base is small and such work is time consuming so I am not expecting something tomorrow but it may be a worthwhile consideration for the future. -

We know our users have learned to have patience when it comes to some feature releases, but this time we might surprise you.
Stay tuned! -
We really prefer people get the Android beta from the Play Store, since it will allow you to get automatic updates but for those that can't or won't, here is a download link:
https://vivaldi.com/download/Vivaldi.apk
NOTE: To ensure you get the latest fixes and security updates, I would strongly advise you subscribe to our Newsletter. Alternatively Subscribe to the RSS feed on the Vivaldi blog. When a new version comes out, download it and upgrade.

Please remember to check that any file you download from a mirror or third party service is real/genuine. I have provided a download link elsewhere in this thread but for those of you that used one of these sites before that, here are valid SHA (256) sums for Vivaldi 2.7.1624.163 (the first beta)
32bit:

64bit:

You should check any file you have previously downloaded
- Linux:
sha256sum Vivaldi_package_name.apk
- macOS:
shasum -a 256 Vivaldi_package_name.apk
- Windows (PowerShell):
Get-FileHash Vivaldi_package_name.apk
(On Windows 10 you can also open Windows Explorer, then right-click Vivaldi_package_name.apk and select “CRC->SHA256”)

@ruario As far as I can see there is no way to verify file hashes on the Fire OS.
I have downloaded a couple of 'apps' that are supposed to do this but sadly they do not. File hashes are listed so I will compare to verify.
Note: My ESET AV scans all apps and reported "No threats found." -
@greybeard You can download to a PC and check there
-
@ruario That would be just too simple.
I can't make anything that easy for myself.
[EDIT] CRC->SHA256 Hashes match with Powershell's result. -
@greybeard Cool!
I have read that you can actually install the Google Play store on Fire devices and that should allow you to get updates. Not tried it myself though
-
@ruario Yes, I have read about that too on Lifehacker. It appears however tat there is a way to "Download" the entire Play Store. If that is what I have to do, then I am not prepared to do that.
I am currently looking through this site for other ideas. (you have to search for Amazon products as they are not listed by default). -
@greybeard ES File Manager for Android have ability to show file hash, but only MD5 and SHA-1...
-
Classyshark3xodus from f-droid will display the sha256sum.

We added an apk download link on vivaldi.com now
