Replacing Pure White Backgrounds with Off White
-
Excessive of PURE White background color display are harmful to our eyes. And most Night/Dark mode extension will alter all website color palette into similar, unrecognizable, & boring website. IMHO, the best method is ONLY replacing Pure White background color with Off White color, while preserve the rest of the color palette to keep each website's identity & feeling intact.
Here are my suggestions:
-
Option to also include & replace background color close to Pure White.
-
Picker mode to select specific background to be replace, option to send user modified data to Vivaldi to improve detection.
-
Option for replacement background color, plus a few default sepia, grayish, or warm color.
-
Option to use different replacement color during day/night time.
-
Include/exclude domain via Site Info/Settings.
Thanks for all the support.
What is OFF White? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shades_of_white -

Meanwhile the Developers change this (or not), you can use an extension
I use NightEye, it analyze the colors and change them to dark (or other that you can define) if it is necessary. It does not simply invert the colors like DarkReader or other. -
@catweazle Hai. Thanks for your suggestion.
Unfortunately Night Eye is free for 3 months then have to keep paying to use it. Also, it become quite "heavy" overtime & slowdown website loading. Personally I tested Green Eye, Eye protector extension, & other methods. I notice they all have delayed filter & various problems. Thus my conclusion is it's best to be implemented by V team as default.
Cheers.

@dude99 Try Page Actions, Filter Sepia. No doubt you can edit the CSS style sheet or create a copy with the colours that you prefer.

Yes, I don't noticed that it is a trial, sorry.
[DarkReade](link url)r don't slow down the page. It is the best alternative in the color inverters. Only the darkers that analyze the page do this.
Vivaldi includes an inverter, but no stores the websites where is needed -
@dude99 How about this one? I edited the background colour to ec3d47

@pesala The problem with Filter Sepia (and any derivation thereof) is that it filters everything on the website. It sounds like @dude99 is more interested in only filtering large background areas, while keeping the rest of the colours normal.
Also, Filter Sepia must be applied manually to each website (or tab) when it's opened, right?
-
@komposten Yes, you're right, and it does not work well on some sites.
-
@Pesala Tryout this js script if you want to know how it should work:
https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/3352-defbackgroundupExtension that does similar thing: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/green-eye/fjbngeppiginhckphonoffahjcoagofd
It's not a full filter/layer that cover the entire page, instead it analyze all elements' background color & replace 'em with Off White if they are Pure White or close to it. It won't alter pictures & videos color, nor messing with non White color background.

Yes, works fine, but like all extensions which analyze colors, slowing down much the page loading and navigation
-
@catweazle Yes. Maybe V dev can do better if it's integrated function instead of through extension.

Yes,, but it were desirable that Vivaldi can do it automatic in specific pages, that is the only lack
-
@catweazle You means enabled/disable it via domain settings?
I don't understand your comment, sorry. -
Here is one extension that work quite fast onload, but still not perfect cuz missed some PURE White on certain website, & it have no domain whitelist: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/whitebuster/kkgacobcjapebahjhkabbkacbpmddeco/

I don't understand your comment, sorry.Exactly, I do not need this function in this forum for having the forum mod, but if in other places, such as G + for example, with a bright white background and no option to configure it and where I have to activate it in Vivaldi every time so that I do not get fogged my cataracts and deactivate it again to enter this forum.
The function in Vivaldi invert every page, need it or no, bad when I have 2 pages in split screen, one with white and another with black background -
Found another good alternative to Green Eye extension, it's call nOverlay:
http://www.noverlay.com/For those of you still using Green Eye, you might wanna switch to nOverlay because it's using "unsage-eval" dangerous remote code execution method: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/39007/search-chrome-extensions-for-unsafe-eval
-
Found 2 more userjs that do the same thing. They are much lighter in resources but limited in functions, & required knowledge in CSS hex color for customization. But they do support white-listing via Tampermonkey.
https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/2054-change-background-color/
https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/979-nobrighter/
TIPS: You might wanna add "F9" (about 97% transparency) at the end of replaced color hex value (#RRGGBBAA) to add color depth so that everything with replaced color won't look too flat. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/23201134/ddg#28481374

I always used the Deluminate extension on Chrome. I was glad to notice that it worked well here in Vivaldi. I just added the extension like i were at the Chrome browser and it is working successfully.
-
@barbosadavi Thanks for sharing. Deluminate extension is a very nice night/dark filter, maybe the best of it's kind, it's very fast & light weight, with a lot of options to boost.
Unfortunately, it's not suitable for day time or bright environment usage, & like all night/dark filter - it turn all website into similar grayish looking design, which make me feel like a blindman after starring at 'em for awhile...
This feature request is about eliminate PURE white background on website in general, so that we can browse the net without constantly bombard by excessive bright white from the screen, & enjoy 'em like the web designer intended (with image & overall color palette intact). Example: Google service in general, & this forum.
