Address field + Speed dial fixes - Vivaldi Browser Snapshot 1609.4

@Hadden89 I did not report a bug. I just fixed it myself.

The upgrade lost my Start Page background and all of my custom speed dial images.

It seems to me, or the menu for adding mouse gestures has become smaller and more inconvenient ?!

@temkem The list now includes a search function. Start typing any part of the command. It is a lot more convenient than scrolling down a long list trying to find the command that you want.

Is anyone else having issues with slow shutdown of the browser?
For the past 3 or 4 snapshots I've noticed this. It's not every time. I think it happens more when the browser has been open for a long time.
But when I close the browser it sometimes hangs for 10-20 seconds.
I'm on Linux Mint 19.1

It would be useful to repair the strange effect of darkening or brightening the eyes of the browser after running videos, e.g. on YouTube
-
I noticed that the Home and End keys do not work in the search command field.
(VB-55584) Home/End Keys do not work in Search Field for Mouse Gesture Commands
Most other standard shortcuts work OK, Ctrl+Left/Right, Ctrl+Shift Left/Right, Left/Right, Ctrl+Delete, Ctrl+Backspace, and Ctrl+A.

I made report about slow closing half year ago: VB-48891. This bug exists for years.
Also I have found that it is related to opening and closing of tabs.
It is enough to open speed dial tab and close it 1000 times to see this effect (more information at VB-48892). -
@Hadden89 Sounds like they have changed something about the format, so the browser recognises the old format and "discards" the file or something like that. If this is the case, the data in the old file should definitely be migrated to the new one automatically.
-
@Komposten I don't think is my case as it is actually happened without an update, after a regular vivaldi restart, but being on an older version, I'm confident it was solved, or at least "harder to trigger". (Seems a quite rare issue)
(I usually take three-four snasphot from every branch on main standalone; I take everything on test standalone). -
Address bar editing is very broken for me in 1609.4, especially when combined with autocomplete.
Eg. if I type part of an URL in the address bar, select something with the down arrow, move cursor to the left with keyboard, and try deleting characters with backspace, cursor will always jump back to the end of URL, and the character I tried to delete often won't be deleted. The problem doesn't happen if I type something first.
I also had weird things happening with selection in address bar (had part of the URL selected, when the text changed from under me, while keeping the selection range as it was), but nothing I can easily reproduce.

Most likely because of data structure corruption inside browser.
Once it happens, all subsequent actions become wrong. -
The last few snapshots have been a terribly frustrating experience. Mostly re: Address bar and especially the on-page search. Firstly, I am a web developer, so I guess I am a candidate for using the browser's features more intensively than a typical user.
Two issues still persist: The browser will freeze after returning the last item when searching using CTRL + F. I was able to replicate this 2 times out of every 10 attempts. In order to replicate I had to close the tab, re-open the tab and repeat the search process. Once it hangs, all currently open tabs become unusable and I have to force quit the application. No crash dump is created.
I used to have another issue where-by the search field would sometimes fail to appear after using CTRL + F, but I THINK this has been fixed. Could someone on the development team please look into the logic surrounding the search process?
My second issue is whenever I am utilizing dev tools and creating breakpoints on JS whilst also using the built-in pretty print {} feature to display the code unminified.
Pausing on a breakpoint will consistently cause the browser tab and dev tools to be unresponsive. Again, no crash dump. These are specifically non-responsive UI issues.Vivaldi: 2.7.1609.4 (Official Build) (64-bit)

@starpaw FYI, I have opened VB-55475 for the "Find-in-Page freeze" issue and the bug has been confirmed internally.
-
Thanks so much for the improvements in the address bar. Performance was so poor in the last few updates that I almost gave up on Vivaldi.
-
@xyzzy: Thanks! Looking forward to the next update. Is there a ticket for the dev tools breakpoint issue? If I get a moment later today I will create one.
-
@starpaw We've had various internal discussions about DevTools. (I've mainly been focused on stability and other issues concerning macOS.) Re: breakpoints making the browser unresponsive, it's definitely a known issue. @Gwen-Dragon escalated this issue internally a week ago.
Edit: Found the bug: VB-55490 Apparently the keyboard (F8) can also still be used to resume execution after hitting the breakpoint to "unlock" the browser.

I can not add a new Speed Dial.
I can type an URL in the text field but "Add" button remains disabled. -
