No thumbnails in speed dial
-
As well the 'Clear Browsing Data' still as of version 1.0.190.2.x64 still wipes all your Speed Dial tiles… This really needs a separate check box option in the 'Clear Browsing Data' dialog so this doesn't happen.
This is a really too essential a feature to not have fixed sooner rather then later as it obviates the purpose, speed and convenience of Speed Dial if you loose all your tiles and have to go back and manually reload them all every time you want to do a thorough job of cleaning all your browsing data.
Big oversight imho…

It appears that you can only get 5 site thumbnails in a folder. If you add a 6th it doesn't matter what it is you can't get a thumbnail for it.. Why has this bug taken so long to fix?

It appears I was wrong on the only 5 thumbnails comment. I got 6 in another folder. It seems like Drudge Report is specifically being left out when it comes to a site thumbnail.

The vast majority of sites produce thumbnails easily. There are some, however, that for whatever reason, Vivaldi has a devil of a time trying to pull a thumbnail. I think there is something about content on certain pages that won't load thru the thumbnail-pulling process, and unless the page actually loads, Vivaldi doesn't get a thumbnail.
TVGuide.com is an example of this, as well as certain Google pages. Vivaldi and Opera forums are also hit and miss. I have folders with as many as 30 items in them, and a thumbnail for every page. But then, I have a fairly decent internet connection and good on-board resources, which minimizes delays. And delays lead to lack of a thumbnail.

Try to delete the big file called topsites on your profile folder.
Then refresh all the thumbnails.
On recent versions the thumbnail generation is working more than decently , but likely you are dragging some "dirt" left from older versions.

Quite often all the thumbnails disappear. Although it does re-appear when refreshing with F5 or individually refreshing each tile, this is very annoing as it happens quite often.
It is specially annoing for pages that require login, as for those you will get thumbnail of the login page instead of actual content. You have to specifically go in to each one and login, then go and refresh the thumbnail. -
@waldo
You can quit Vivaldi, delete your Top Sites file and start Vivaldi again (this makes all your thumbnails disappear). Then refresh all the thumbnails like you normally do. Your Top Sites file will be recreated -- make a copy of it and store it somewhere. Then whenever your thumbnails disappear you can just restore them by copying your stored file into Vivaldi -- the original thumbnails will reappear. Especially useful if you have custom thumbnails. -
thumbnails disappear after a second after speed dial is opened
