Vivaldi 2.5 breaks WhatsApp Web
-
Correct me if I'm wrong: I think I remember people mentioning this issue for weeks in the snapshot forums for 2.5 before the final version was released last week.
Please see this as constructive(!) criticism: Vivaldi really shouldn't release a version that breaks compatibility with such important sites. I know (and many here know) that the ultimate issue lies with WhatsApp and some other sites. But most users just won't bother and will go back to other browsers (aka Chrome). Along with the hard crash of Twitter in the web panel this eliminates the 2 most important web panels for me and probably many others.
I know that you have to get releases out at some point even if some known bugs aren't fixed. But stuff like this will cost you users - just because most people don't know and/or don't care about the reasons.I really want this browser to prosper and gain many more happy users.
Cheers,

@lamarca It seems to have been fixed now. I am not using any UA spoofer and it loads in the web panel fine.
-
@m0rningst4r That's a good new. Have fun.
-
-
@m0rningst4r Which version of Vivaldi are you on? I am on the latest 2.5.1525.40 and I still get the "Update your browser" message in the web panel as well as in a new tab.
-
@helpfile In case you didn't, try Deleting Browser History, remove the apps in SD ans restart Vivaldi.
-
This post is deleted! -
@lamarca Just tried that, but I still get the same message:
-
@helpfile Hi, talk to @m0rningst4r, he/she said it's fine. I don't even have that apps.
Cheers

Just sharing my experience:
Vivaldi 2.5.1525.41 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
installed Chrome UA Spoofer extension and set it as explained above
WhatsApp Webapp works for me, but a weird side effect was produced:When I go to www.google.com, the cursor and everything I write appear above the dialog. It works normally, but misplaced. Results page looks the same.
-
@janaxhell use https://google.com instead of http:// (which is the default when you omit it). Known problem with http to https redirection on google.com.
If you refresh with f5 it should work anyway. -
@iAN-CooG Thanks, but no changes, with both https AND f5. No big deal anyway, I was just notifying it. Never happened before adding UA Spoofer.
-
@helpfile stopped working again after the latest update.
Was working with 2.5.1525.40.
-
@janaxhell ok, there is a bug, but let me ask you exactly why do you need to go to google.com home page? Can't you just set google as search engine and type your search query directly in the vivaldi address bar/search field?

Thank you, all right

Am I the only one for which this is not fixed in web panels?
It is working fine in a normal tab, but not in a panel: it is still asking me to update my browser. (but not 100% of the time, see here under...)
- 2.5.1525.48 (Stable channel) (64 bits)
- Windows 10
Strange behaviour:
- When it does not work, if I switch from desktop to mobile user agent it suddenly works!
- Then, if the panel is reloaded, I have the message asking me to download it from Google Play (which is what I would expect in the 1st place due to mobile user agent)
- Switching back to desktop version lead to the "update your browser" message again
-
@Gwen-Dragon ok, thank you for the information!

@Guilimote
no, you're not the only one, I'm also experiencing the same issue
