Vivaldi 2.5 breaks WhatsApp Web
-
WhatsApp Web worked with no issues in Vivaldi 2.4. On update, WhatsApp Web now demands for Chrome 36+. Will I need to downgrade Vivaldi back to 2.4?
Edit by ruario
For issues with websites (like WhatsApp) blocking based on User Agent. You can often work around the issue like so
-
@erix Please don't downgrade! That can corrupt your profile!
Here's a help article in the meantime to avoid WA's bad browser detection:
https://help.vivaldi.com/article/user-agent-spoofing/ -
Has anyone found a combination of extension and configuration that works with WA in the sidebar? I can open it on a normal tab, but the sidebar keeps asking for Chrome. Weird as other extensions like Stylish work just fine on the sidebar pages.

Contacted WhatsApp support, they replied to say they are aware and working on it.
-
Got that same email reply.

@absolly seems that sending a lot of e-mails helped as a week ago their response was the typical PR of complete emptiness:
-
@npro It's the standard reply, all they
thehave to do is to copy and paste. Blocking our UA is not only illegal, it manipulate the statistics.Edited: Typo
-
@lamarca yeah, that's why my reply to that was "of the angry ones"
. Maybe that has helped too
-
@npro I've received the same answer from 8th of May.

@ArmandoR We can't spoof UA for webpanels per site, yet.
I guess V have to permanent spoof Whatsapp like dailymotion: it seems WA won't unlock our user agent.
So, both webpanel and site issue would be solved.
In a wrong way, nevertheless. -

- Установите расширение
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/user-agent-switcher-for-c/djflhoibgkdhkhhcedjiklpkjnoahfmg - В настройках расширения добавьте новую строку
New User-agent name = Vivaldi 2.4
New User-Agent String = Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/73.0.3683.105 Safari/537.36
Group = Vivaldi
Append? = Append
Indicator Flag = V24
И всё начинает работать как прежде

Unfortunately, this method does not work for web panels.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong: I think I remember people mentioning this issue for weeks in the snapshot forums for 2.5 before the final version was released last week.
Please see this as constructive(!) criticism: Vivaldi really shouldn't release a version that breaks compatibility with such important sites. I know (and many here know) that the ultimate issue lies with WhatsApp and some other sites. But most users just won't bother and will go back to other browsers (aka Chrome). Along with the hard crash of Twitter in the web panel this eliminates the 2 most important web panels for me and probably many others.
I know that you have to get releases out at some point even if some known bugs aren't fixed. But stuff like this will cost you users - just because most people don't know and/or don't care about the reasons.I really want this browser to prosper and gain many more happy users.
Cheers,

@helpfile So there's an issue with twitter ? it crashing but as soon i turned off the internet access it didn't crash...and the thing is if you leave the webpanel open it will keep crashing....

@lamarca It seems to have been fixed now. I am not using any UA spoofer and it loads in the web panel fine.

@m0rningst4r That's a good new. Have fun.
