Vivaldi 2.3 RC 2 – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1440.37
-
@QuHno
It is animated gif, (sending giphy through whatsapp) but i still strongly believe it should not kill the Browser/eat all CPU -
@Gwen-Dragon another user reported at with VB-45712 see here
-
@Gwen-Dragon easy to reproduce even with a new profile (looks exact like here) vivaldi process uses one cpu core to the max. my main profile hangs up as JanS. described it
-
@derDay
Even with Animated gif only playing once it will eat CPU and RAM like hell -
@Gwen-Dragon ok, thank you
-
@Gwen-Dragon
this is a very easy way to replicate.
Anyone using whatsapp can replicate that on whatsapp web. -
@JanS feel free to reference to the bugnumbers written above. I'm adding infos from vivaldi://gpu/ and some screensshots
if you have the possibility to record a video, you can add it to the bug with an answer to the mail you get after reporting (or a link to the video) -
-
This version of Vivaldi is very crash-happy here ... especially sensitive to any mouse gesture during page-loading.
-
An akward issue I'm seeing since RC1 and with tabs on right: width value seems not to be correctly saved [ VB-48939 ]
I use a ~113px (on 72% UI) but at the restart vivaldi seems to revert on 181px or keeping minimized at 30px (when you double click on the resizer).
-
@ian-coog: @ruario: so, finally, after 2 hours of trying everything and restoring my profile over and over this is what I've found:
-
clearing Storage (the option below Cookies, not sure about translation) fixes the problem, but:
-
clearing Storage clears my extensions data. I REALLY do not want that. Is separating extensions from site data on your TODO? Can I get task number to look for in blog posts?
-
clearing Storage usually means it won't ever finish clearing. I can leave it for 30 minutes (on i7, 16GB RAM, SSD) and it won't stop. I need to shrink my big history (I can clear it or manually remove some entries, I was leaving last month) and restart Vivaldi while it's clearing and re-try clearing to make it finish.
To be precise:
This works:
- run clear storage, restart, clear history, run clear storage again
- clear history, run clear storage, restart, run clear storage again
This does not:
3) clear storage, restart, clear storage
-
clearing other things does not help
-
I can reload youtube (in another window I had open) during clearing and it youtube will work on all resolutions (so no "full" clear is required, but my extensions data is lost anyway)
-
manually removing indexedDB folders related to youtube does not help
So, summary:
- I've lost 2+ hours
- I'm still stuck with buggy youtube
- It's not extensions fault
- I can only fix it by clearing extensions data, which is not something acceptable for me
- I'd love to find a better solution to fix
-
-
@gwen-dragon: and it will end up with another
Not reproducible.
?
-
@jacekn: I removed everything from IndexedDB folder, except those starting with chrome_extension, thinking it'd do the same as
clear storage
, but nope. It did not help me. -
@jacekn said in Vivaldi 2.3 RC 2 – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1440.37:
However - non-private window on another profile on same Vivaldi version works fine
try rebuilding&refreshing your non working profile then

@Gwen-Dragon said in Vivaldi 2.3 RC 2 – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1440.37:
Please read how to Report a bug for Vivaldi carefully and then report the bug to Vivaldi bugtracker.
And be comforted by the knowledge that the internal bugtracker is written in such a way that you're automatically emailed if the bug is marked as Not Reproducible. That way, you're not kept in the dark and have an opportunity to respond promptly (which will automatically re-open the bug) to the email to clarify the report and hopefully get it resolved a lot sooner than if you'd had no idea about the matter.
It's a win-win for everyone!
Ahem.
-
@ian-coog: Thank you for your suggestion, but I've finally found a fix!!!
- I went to youtube.com,
- Opened Dev Tools,
- Selected
Application
tab, - From left menu I've selected
Clear Storage
- And pressed
Clear site data
button (with all the options checked by default).
F5 to refresh and voilà
It was fixed without removing anything (well, my backup copy was already cleared out of cookies, but I bet it wasn't necessary).

Vivaldi hangs after using find-in-page on a page tiled with PDF (VB-48656)
V hanged when I tried to find a text on this page...
there is no tiled pages.
2.3.1440.37 win10/64 -
@Gwen-Dragon many thanks
-
Opening https://hangouts.google.com/ in sidebar continues to steal the cursor away from any field I am trying to write on.
This also happens when I open the page in a normal tab and try to use my cursor to write in the sidebar.
-
Notifications on my dual monitor setup do not come out dark even though dark mode is enabled both in Vivaldi and in windows 10.
