Can we get an actual bookmark button not just the toolbar?

What? There IS a bookmarks bar now? Where? How do I enable it? I don't see it. Nor any option for it.
It's in settings in the LATEST snapshot, available from the Vivaldi Team BLOG (accessible from the top menu on this page).

Can't you just put folders inside the Bookmark bar folder (and folders within folders)?
that's ok, but let's have a look back at the first post:
"…i hate the bookmarks bar personally. i hate the extra room it takes and having to see it up there...."

4. Click Insert (you won't see the picture until you submit the post - just a placeholder)
Thank you! I was missing step 4

I would like to see the bookmarks in the menu. Maybe between "View" and "Tools" or "Tools" and "Window".
The folder in the bookmarks bar could be a temporary thing, but it shows a full tool bar line for only one folder. I don't like that.

Sorry. Won't work then. Please ignore my post.

I think you'll find it's a graphics markup of a Firefox image… and his point is that he wants the same capabilities in Vivaldi.

Well thanks, but it doesn't appear in my settigs menu after updating, so im going to reinstall and see if it works.
EDIT: It worked!
Thanks a lot! -
correct i do not want a bar at all. i despise bars of any kind. yes a drop down like in firefox or the old opera. i would love to have the option for those who want the bar i will never use the bar. as far as the button to open the panel i do not have one. the only way for me to open the bar it to use the top menu. now i turned off the status bar at the bottom and maybe that is why i dont see it?
i want all the screen real estate i can get and not to have to take it up with panels and bars etc.
im really liking it otherwise and i do hope they can add an actual bookmarks button.

Yes. The reason you don't have the panel activation button is because you turned off the status bar.

My choice of course would never be the drop-down, as that covers page content.
Why that's a problem for you? If you browsing for a bookmark to open I don't think the current page content is important, since it will be gone soon O_o

Content of the page I am on is important to me until the moment I want to leave it, at which point I click on a bookmark which I can already see without having had to click on something to start looking for it. Same thing with tabs. I don't have to click on a drop-down to have to start looking for the one I want next. I can already see it. Just as a general principle, the more things I can select without having to cover up existing page content to begin to look for them (within reason) the better I like it.

There are many times I refer to my bookmarks while viewing a page, not necessarily just to choose one of them to open a new page. Sometimes, I want to see whether I've already bookmarked a page linked on the page I'm viewing, sometimes to see where (topically) I may want to bookmark the current page if I already haven't, etc. In each case, I may continue wanting to see as much of the current page as possible while also looking at the bookmarking. It's a user-preference kind of thing.

without having had to click on something to start looking for it.
This is fine, unless someone no want that side panel were occupying browser space.
Ok, if you want to have bookmarks panel always opened is your preference.
Some peoples no want side bar to be shown or any other bars just for bookmarks, so…
Steps to open new bookmark when side panel is closed:
1. Open side panel with button in the bottom left
2. Open bookmarks if those were not opened
3. Choose bookmark to open
4. Close side panel with button in the bottom leftThat's 4 steps, if compare to dropdown menu with bookmarks.
Let's say we have main menu like in good old Opera, there we have Bookmarks menu item, we click it (1 step) and select any bookmark we want (2 step). Nothing more are needed, no page resizes are needed to display bookmarks and etc. And this is the easiest bookmarks system to implement. -

It will naturally be added in due course.
However: I have tabs, panels, etc. at the side on my wide display because otherwise that space is completely wasted. In narrower displays, I don't do that.. Since we have a BOOKMARKS BAR, the whole series of gymnastics of opening side panel, selecting bookmarks, opening a bookmark, closing the side panel, is completely unnecessary. One of the folders I have on my bookmarks bar is a folder with all of my other bookmarks, arranged in folders as needed, in it. It serves as a drop-down for all of the bookmarks that don't fit on the bar, and which I don't use every day in my work.
The whole key, the whole theme of Vivaldi is choices - and the more, the merrier, I say.

Precisely. I also use the panel to constrain the width of the content area. Not using the space in today's wide aspect screen would be a total waste as well as an irritation. Panels forever I say. But a drop-down for sure would be a great option.

Well, not everyone has wide screen, like me, but not because I can't afford upgrade, it's because I like 4:3 format and bough such kind of monitor instead of other ones. I also like x86 architecture
Browser width for me is precious…
