(History of) Vivaldi Feature Requests
-
I posted the following a few days ago on the community page. Probably was the wrong place to post such thing, so I copy most of it to this thread, as it has a few feature requests:
Hi, I don't know, if anyone who is involved in the project is reading this.
I am still using Opera 12.17 as my default browser. I know that I might state the obvious (because you are possibly working on these things), but I need the menus to be configurable like in O12.
Like being able to set certain buttons where I want them to be, plus a few extra ones (like a button to delete private data that can be placed on the main bar). See my O 12.17 bars (I don't use the bottom bar!):
One thing that is really bothering me is, that there is no bookmarkts BUTTON on the main bar - having to open an extra page (i.e. speed dial), or the panel (or keeping it open) and then double clicking on a bookmark is way too much for my personal taste.
Might be different for others, but the good thing about the good old Opera was, that everybody coud choose according to their needs. Can't wait for the implemented mail client. (No need for this? Read the above text that is marked red.)
I want to be able to turn off the auto search in bookmarks, when typing in the address field.
I'm a very frequent F12 user: Cookies on/off, etc. Additionally, I have a F12-shortcut on my address bar.
Just found a possible bug / inconvenience: You can not scroll inside notes without clicking on the pen to make them editable.
Nevertheless, I am VERY exited that you try to replicate a lot of the beloved features. Thank you VERY much.
vivaldi:config does not work

Reminders and notes attached to any site.
Calendar and time based so the next time I open the browser or visit a site - they popup.Such as when I visit my banking site:
"Remember to pay the utility bill"Or visit eBay
On the wish list: new phone case and new Sonos speakers.I know - it has to add a calender…but oh well..

Requests
Show window previews in a location where they will not obstruct the other tabs, when they drop down with tabs on the side they block the tabs below.
Option to disable the window preview for tabs.
+1

I also wish for a CalDav calender in the sidebar. Vivaldi is aiming to be a wholesome websuite. It would make browsing even more fluent, if I didn't have to open a separate calender application to check on dates when I'm booking flights or concert tickets or organizing a night out with friends.
+1. The two great lacks I ever felt in Opera 12 et prior were a calendar and sync with Google (calendar and contacts)
-
1. Have Vivaldi a automatic update or need i download updates seperate?
2. Is there a Adblocker or will run Vivaldi with Alblock from Chrome or Opera in future?
3. Is it possible to turn off the preview picture when turning Tab position to the side?
I like Vivaldi very much. Please go on with development!

Right now updates are manual. They are working on auto update.
An adblocker extension can be installed. I'm not sure at the moment how this is done, because adding extensions is an incomplete feature just yet.
Not possible to turn off preview pictures yet.

I'm not sure at the moment how this is done
vivaldi://extensions –> install unpacked extension (you will find them on the extension directory inside the user profile directory of any chromium based browser).

Thanks, Solutor! I may try one or two.

my feature request is:
- "history back from a single tab" while pressing the back-button over a long time. (its of cause
a feature opera 12 already had, and it was brilliant)
- easy way to enable/disable the proxy settings (not the use of the system-properties)
- block unwanted content using the context-menu (and the way to modify this database)
i'm coming from opera 12.17 and use! it in my daily work - of cause - vivaldi could change this
tnx :woohoo:

incognito mode!

Would like the extensions Ghostery and Adblock that exist on Chrome and Firefox. Also, would be great if more search engines will be implemented in the top right search box.

Really like how Vivendi looks so far - as so many others here seem to be, I'm on Opera 12.17 and have not really found a good replacement though Opera is getting a bit old since it's not being developed any more. The new Opera isn't even worth considering and chrome is just a lot of bother even for basic stuff (or at least what I consider basic stuff after a "lifetime" with Opera) and some stuff is just not possible to get in Chrome no matter what.
Three things I would love to see in Vivaldi:
1. Drop-down arrow on address bar to select addresses that have been entered there
2. Minimize, maximize, close buttons on each tab (top right) - this is something Opera, for some reason, consistently tried to get us away from it seemed, but it was possible to get back through custom buttons and stuff. Really hope Vivaldi will just give us an option for having those though.
3. Mouse gesture 'right click -> down' to open a new tab (alternatively, possibility to define your own mouse gestures)
Downloaded Vivaldi yesterday and have used it for everything (except mail which I've still got in Opera) since - really love it so far, and with a small exception for these (and a few more minor) issues, it's pretty much a perfect browser for me already
-
Opera was an awesome browser. This browser already gives me the opera feel I had before Opera went down…
But Mouse guestures like they worked in Opera before "the change", would make this browser usable to me!This. I still miss the old opera's mouse gestures. Vivaldi has some of those already implemented, but they should really make them available in the speeddial, settings etc pages.

@Al-Khwarizmi:
- Please add the "click tab to minimize" feature of the old Opera. Meaning that if I click on the active tab in the tab bar, I switch to the most recently used tab. This was not only very useful to alternate between two tabs, but a feature that makes the tab bar consistent with the Windows task bar and Windows MDI apps, for those of us who use that OS.
I second this. I'm mostly indifferent to minimizing but I'd like to resize individual tabs and put (tile) them next to each other. As a huge multitasker, for overview, comparison and just generally having different content open at once that is almost as important as a well functioning tab system (albeit both becoming the same in the end).
-
OK, seems to me the option to put tabs on the left side is already implemented
Very cool indeed.
But please add a way to open a new tab on doubleclick on the empty tab-bar  -
I understand that Mail feature is probably not of highest priority (Vivaldi is a browser after all), but I'd really like to see PGP implemented when it comes out. That was the only reason Opera 12 Mail sucked, and I'm sure a lot of people would agree to this, as there was a lot of frustration expressed in Opera's forums about lack of PGP.

Just now using it noticed that it is uncomfortable not to have pinned Downloads panel. I don't know if downloads have finished. I did several of them and after starting the next download the Downloads section was automatically closed. Please, make it possible to pin Download panel for it not to close after starting the downloading next file.

My requested features :
5. Gesture : Drag Mouse down while holding right click to open a new window
Don't know much about others experiences, but for me this is very important feature. One of very few gestures I ended up using all the time and It's really hard to drop once you get used to it.

Having an optimized full-screen mode would be cool. Like when you hit a corner of the screen, it shows the address bar, and take it away after a time. Every browser has a full screen mode but they never provide a good way of using it.

I would really like to see Kiosk mode.
