Looking for a tab group manager extension - suggestions?
-
I've been using Firefox with Tab Groups Manager to manage my tab use. I switched to Pale Moon to keep Tab Groups working as I like them, with 1000-2000 tabs if needed, but I came across Vivaldi a day or so ago and really liked it, so I'm having a try. I was a dedicated Opera user back to v4, and really liked that too, before they switched engines, so Vivaldi feels very familiar.
I also like Vivaldi's promise to handle large-scale tab usage nicely, once again. Vivaldi is also geared to heavy duty users, and has a native left-side tab bar, which means I'll be more likely to have a good experience and not a "lowest common denominator" experience.
Decent tab group management is pretty much the only essential thing other than left tab bar and good handling of large numbers of tabs. I've tried Vivaldi without extensions and with a few promising extensions. Maybe I'm doing something wrong - I don't think I am - but I'm not getting the success I hoped for. So I'm bringing my need here, in the hope someone else can help me find an answer
I don't mind whether tabs work as groups, or stacks, or whether they are collapsible (a kind of simple tree), or are shown in 2 separate panels. But I do need to be able to switch between groups/stacks, or expand/collapse them, so I can see the tabs in another group/stack, and I do need the group/stack titles separate from the tabs themselves (ie not using the first tab as a "parent", although a "fake"/"dummy" tab as parent is fine)
Below is a screenshot of how it works for me at the moment, and a mockup of a collapsible version as an alternative. The groups/stacks could also be shown in a separate panel.
I can't seem to get anything like this working, but maybe that's just me.
What can I do, to get something like this, with Vivaldi?
Thanks!

Right-click on a tab stack to rename it. If the tabs are from the same domain, the name will inherit the domain by default.
Show popup thumbnails to select tabs within stacks.

Thanks!
I didn't know you could limit the tree depth in this extension - it makes a huge difference to me, as that's why I didn't spot this extension as a 'possible'.
I have a few questions on folders/groups, while I'm exploring the extension:
- Difference between folders/groups: Is there a functional difference between folders and groups, or do folders just act like a second (inline) level of groups?
- Tab management stability/backup/loss of data: If I can use either folders or groups for my tab handling, how do they compare for stability and data loss/loss of organisation? For example, are both groups and folders backed up with periodic background session saves, or which out of folders+groups data is least likely to be lost if a session crashes?
- CSS to get group titles horizontal: Is there any CSS to make the group titles appear horizontally as normal, not written "sideways"? Presumably this also implies needing CSS to change the group tab's width?

I don't use thumbnails (anywhere at all), and the groups/stacks are almost never from a single domain
(My tab groups are activity not domain based. For example, say I'm midway through a task and I need to find how to modify an image. So I might create a new empty group, open a tab at a search page, and gradually the group will be populated with all kinds of relevant links from google search, Stack Exchange, ImageMagick documentation, blogs, and other sites, until I've got what I want)
I should also say that I don't want to treat the first tab as a parent, or else, if there is a "parent", it's as shown in the screenshots in the OP - nothing but a blank or dummy "placeholder" containing just a title, to help me locate a group in the list of groups, and to identify what topic different groups are about.

They don't have to be, but if you right-click and use stack tabs by host, the stack will take the host name. You can then drag and drop other tabs from other domains into that stack.
