Built-in Dictionary
-
Chrome extensions require permissions to see every page we visit. I would like an option that doesn't require me to trust Google or unknown third parties. Since I trust Vivaldi, I'd rather have this functionality built into the browser.

@omen_20 Vivaldi already has built-in Hunspell dictionaries. The blog article is about Grammar Checkers like Grammarly. There is no privacy risk whatsoever from using a built-in spell-checker that resides on your hard drive.

@pesala I hadn't actually read that article just yet, but saw it in Feedly. I was just speaking to missing the use of the Google Dictionary extension where I can double click a word instead of having to right click and search with Dictionary.
Seems Hunspell is used for checking spelling of words for the red lines within inputs.

@omen_20 The article — Don't say a word — includes both Grammar-checkers and online dictionaries, which presumably includes those like the Oxford dictionary that I use as a search engine.
Is it a dictionary that you want to look up the meaning of words, rather than just a spell-checker?

@pesala Yes, I'm looking for something along these lines https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/google-dictionary-by-goog/mgijmajocgfcbeboacabfgobmjgjcoja
Opera has a custom context menu when you highlight text. I was figuring Vivaldi could go that route with built in dictionary functionality along with other function buttons. These could all be toggled within Settings.

Just found this English dictionary that Vivaldi could maybe use.

Thank you for your request. As it has received few votes over 4 years, it is now going to be archived.
