(History of) Vivaldi Feature Requests
-
Thanks! (just for the idea of making something with the REAL Opera in mind and not the fake mistake done after…).
I've tried to read all the feature requests, but I'm sure that some of mine have already been claimed.[ol]
- RSS integrated with advanced filtering and smart filters/folder (improved version of old Opera one)
- visual tabs/session organizer (support for multiple session has been requested already). Something similar to PANORAMA of Firefox: http://i.i.cbsi.com/cnwk.1d/i/tim//2010/08/24/firefox-panorama.jpg might also be included with bookmars…
- support/import for the old M2 Rss Database!!! (really important to me, I'm still using it)
- support for hundreds tabs… (old opera supported more than 300 at the same time, still able to perform pretty well!)
[/ol]
If you would like to, feel free to contact me for these ideas, if I can help to have a better Opera, I'm IN!

Full Imaging support
What would make Vivaldi stand out from the pack is more complete imaging support. The useful feature that is missing on pretty much every web browser is the ability to view TIFF images. Companies have dedicated tons of resources to writing ActiveX, NaCL, Java applets, HTML5 client/server solutions and even uglier tools which send TIFF pages as GIF or JPEG images. All of these are just hacks instead of addressing the real issue of having a good multi-page TIFF viewer built into the browser.I would like to help the Vivaldi team integrate a highly optimized TIFF solution into their browser that would obviate the need for plug-in hacks. I created my own imaging codecs that are optimized for desktop and mobile and would be a perfect fit to run inside a web browser. Please contact me for more details.

Two things:
I want to use my standard OS theme with vivaldi. I like all of my windows looking consistent. Chrome and Steam both seem to like implementing their own top bar that the OS usually handles, and therefore look very different from the rest of the windows on my screen. This, personally, drives me crazy. At least make this optional, even if it isn't the default. It would make me very happy. Just for the top bar, the tabs and everything can look exactly as they do.
Also, keyboard scrolling. I use the command-line only browser Links more than a sane person should simply because it allows me to browse the web without taking my hands away from the keyboard. Emacs key-bindings are out of the question, I know, but I'm hoping the upcoming spatial navigation is awesome, because ctrl+n to scroll down a page is so comfortable and lets me rest my hands in one place while reading. If a fully functional browser such as this one let me at least set such key-bindings for scrolling and selecting links, I would die of happiness.

The ability to toggle whether to automatically switch to new tab (or remain in current tab) when I open a new tab.
-
Nice work, thank you!
Some suggestions:
[OL]-
- Make a centralized list of suggestions so users can opt in/out for each of them. A kind of Community Designed Browser
-
Keep browser small. On my Win7/32, just after start:
[OL]- K-Meleon (Gecko): 45.000 K
-
SlimBoat (WebKit): 60.000 K
-
Vivaldi: 258.000 K (75.000 + 80.000 + 71.000 + 32.000)
[/OL] -
Add bookmarks also in main menu
-
In Bookmarks Panel, popup menu->Open: ask before opening folder (try to open a folder with over 70 links)
-
Don't empty trash at exit, make it persistent
-
Site preferences like Opera 12 plus link blocker
-
"Block site/domain" option: do not open pages from specified site/domain and remove it from search results
-
Customizable context menu
-
Line bookmarks for web pages, useful for long pages
-
Detached download manager: allow browser to close while keeping downloads active
-
Don't bloat the browser with third party services (Facebook, Skipe, etc…). If needed, make them available via extensions
-
Same about Mail and News, make them external
-
Do not use separate "update service" as Google, Opera does
[/OL]

I noticed that I asked myself "when did you reload that site the last time" (for example the forum-site to look for new entries).
So a "site reloaded last: XXXXX" in the status bar would be useful. -
I hope more languages will become available. I use UK English as default and hope Vivaldi will include this.

I hope more languages will become available. I use UK English as default and hope Vivaldi will include this.
I spent maybe one hour to have a an Italian translation in a reasonably good state. I believe that "translating" from American to British English, should be matter of less than 10 minutes.

My suggestion is: Alert on Exit (Not a big work, I think)
-
When we open an image in Firefox, the image is center aligned and background color is black. Google Chrome displays images like IE does. Vivaldi should follow Firefox, not Chrome.

I have 3 features I would like to see. Sorry if they have already been suggested before.
1. I would like to have a new tab right next to the current tab instead of at the end. It would be great if I can choose the location of a new tab in the setting.
2. I would like to have the blank page (speed dial) as my homepage, but I don't see such option in the setting, so I would like to have that feature.
3. I love mouse gesture shortcuts, so it would be great to have that.
Thank you so much for your consideration. I hope this Vivaldi will be one of the best browsers.
-
My requested features :
1. "Ctrl + Shift + C" shortcut to take notes immediately from page.
2. Opera Mail
3. Smoother transitions such as the background progress bar in the address bar (it jumps in periods and it's not smooth !)
4. "Ctrl + Shift + V" to "Paste & Go"
5. Gesture : Drag Mouse down while holding right click to open a new window
6. Gesture : Drag Mouse up while holding right click to stop a web pages loading
7. Make the mascot funnier !
8. Custom proxy settings
9. Fast and smooth tab sorting and Drag & Drop
10. Tab Stacking should be easier to work with
11. Tab Pinning
12. Close Tabs to the Right
13. Use help animations whenever possible to let users know what they are able to do with all the options and gestures and shortcuts
14. options to change whether restarting Vivaldi should open last active tabs or other options
15. make zoom bar and the icons near it a bit larger
16. make save as MHTML the default save option
17. add all the Opera 12.x right click on page options (such as the "reload page every x second" option !)
18. Make Opera Mail better than Thunderbird so that we'd never go back to other clients…
19. Weekly builds !
20. Be Strong ! You can beat Opera And then Firefox... and then Chrome !the software currently seems to be demanding a lot of processing power... I installed one at work on a less powerful system and it clearly started to lag... speed dials were slow to work (mostly animations were laggy) and changing tabs doesn't have the smooth animation it should.
Opening new tabs should be as fast as possible... unlike firefox this has been one of Operas (and now it should be Vivaldis) strengths to open a new tab as fast as possible.
and by the way... try to remove or change anything that reminds the Users of the damned Chrome and Chropera... the ugly settings page, the useless proxy page and even the alert dialogs !
Thanks !

There is one key feature, which firefox lost to it's greediness, and would be a great differentiator for Vivaldi:
- Sync to private server (passwords, bookmarks, contacts, tasks?, chat logs?, maybe calendars etc..)
Except for palemoon, which still supports the legacy FF sync protocol, I dnon't know of any browsers having this functionality. You might consider adopting open protocols - eg caldav, carddav etc.. or creating one simple enough, for community brewed server plugins could be easily made (e.g. for owncloud or plain php/tomcat).
-
Oh, also: Ctrl+[num] on Speed Dial. Speed Dial is not that fun without these shortcuts.
-
I totally need Ghostery and HTTPS Everywhere and Privacy Badger and ad blockers and extensions like those to work with Vivaldi! I can't use Vivaldi full time until I know that my privacy is somewhat protected from advertisers and other harmful trackers.
-
I forgot something in my last "feature" post..
…right click or long press forward and back buttons for tab history drop-down.
-
Great job!
1. Private browsing tabs
2. User agent spoofing
3. When I highlight word, then CTRL+ right click, have "Look up word…" be with my default search engine not Google.
4. Some sort of easy social network sharing of web pages to Twitter, FB, email.
5. Bookmarks bar.
6. Popup blocker -
Agree - pinned tabs and spatial navigation on my wish list as well.
-
I like these features very much:
(1) The most needed: Cached Images/Show/No Images with one button - this is the reason to use old Opera and (in prospect) Vivaldi for me.
(2) Enable plugins on demand
(3) LastPass extension possible -
Here's a feature I liked, but have no idea what happened to it… Grouping Tabs. I sometimes open a lot of tabs. Opera used to be able to group them together. I miss that feature.
We need a master pass on the saved passes and I hope they are encrypted.
