How to change the browser identification?
-
Sometimes websites want to be opened in a specific browser... like virtualisation station from QNAP... How can you "force" the browser to open it anyway? Is it possible to give the website a different browser identification?
Best

@johannes-at-hildebrand , yes it is.
Hi, I use "User Agent Switcher for Chrome" with the string:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/64.0.3282.170 Safari/537.36
It help me for several sites as freenet mail, bank account and so forth.Cheers, mib

Yes, sometimes some websites do not recognize Vivaldi as a valid browser (Google?), But it is also not a big problem using a User Agent Switcher that allows you to 'disguise' Vivaldi
-
I prefer command line switch over installing third-party.

With 'User-Agent Switcher for Chrome' you can create own user-agent
You don't have it installed, don't you:p
-
@gwen-dragon True. For people who do everything using the UI is Not userfriendly. As for me (and you ) switches aer our friend

Much as I like the command line and its power... how do you switch the UA on the fly without restarting the browser? And how do you switch it per tab?
-
@morg42 There is nothing like command line. Exemple: the UI will not flush the cache.
On the fly is possible using Dev Tools. Never tried per tab, any new, I' post here; -

Switching Vivaldi UA is the same as a brunete wears a blond wig. Identify as or mask asI think that the verification and discrimination practiced by the web pages of certain browsers is highly insulting, a discrimination and lack of respect for the user.
It reminds me of times with posters like 'Only for white people', the same as forcing a blond wig to those with brown hair. -
@catweazle Absolutely. It can be compared to racism.
The function of browser sniffing is to identify the visitor browser.
The nasty use is to determinate which browser can access the website. It's a distortion.
In some cases, Vivaldi is not deliberated blocked. It's due to the bad coded website. -
As in its day, IE eliminated Netscape from the market, what is called unfair competition.
-
It occurred me after submitting the reply.
Browser sniffing interferes in the statistic: Vivaldi not using the original UA.
Seldom I need user agent spoofing.
It does not work with the almight gøøgł€, I will try, just for fun -
@catweazle Back! My currently UA
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/65.0.3325.183 Safari/537.36
Do you know a website that blocks Vivaldi?

Yes Do you have an account on Google (GMail, You Tube, etc.)?
Google Sites does not allow Vivaldi to edit in the new design of this web platform. There you have to use the UA to be able to do it. -
@catweazle I do. Gøøgle mail , Youtube, Drive (no channel). Just open them.

Is the new Gmail? Reverted back to default UA. I will try gmail right now.
-
@catweazle New gmail is fine. Composed a mail, saved on Draft folder, opened, edited and sent it.
Where else it happens? -
No, GMail and other Google services like GDocs and GDrive now work in Vivaldi without problems, even in Google Sites let's edit the old format, it just warns me not to be able to edit when I change to the new format, this I can only do by changing the UA.
If you have an account in Google, even if only with GMail, you can use ALL the services without new registration, just log in and you can use it.
