To whom it may concern, when moving a topic please leave a link to the new location.

That request demands to create a new topic. The solution is quite easy, go to your profile, which shows all your posts

@Para-Noid thanks for asking, we're looking at ways to meet your need. How would you like to see the link? Like this for example?
Moved topic to: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/27704/moved
We can't promise anything though.

On the IrfanView forums I can leave a redirect with a time-out so there is no need to clutter the forum with links.

Precisely. That would be perfect.

I was just wondering would that be for a topic that you wrote/created and/or replied?
If so indeed what the other moderators suggested regarding checking your profile page would be the easiest to follow up as the issue with the link is that it will show in the new location so it might not be that helpful after all.
Otherwise if it's a topic you want to follow you can select "Watching" under the topic menu that way it will show in your notifications (see screenshot below).
Does this help you a bit further?

@gaelle I know how to "watch" and how to check my postings. I commented in hopes that when moving a topic a link to its new location be made. It should not matter if a user posted or not. What matters is where it was move to and how to find it again. A passer-by might see a topic of interest and check it out only to finds it was moved. And have no idea as to where. Personally I don't follow/watch very many topics. But posting a link to a new location is as simple as copy/paste. Once copy/paste is complete...lock the old topic to prevent any new posts leaving the new location open for business.

@para-noid moved topics retain links and also handle redirect on title changes.
See test for this topic.A feasible solution would be to allow a topic to be associated with multiple (sub)categories to be displayed in (old locations).
One still needs to be marked primary tofakedisplay unique location (breadcrumb

@becm I'm not proposing to delete the original location. I'm trying to say if a mod moves a topic please leave a link to the new location. Lock the old location to prevent any new posts. Leaving the new location to handle any and all new posts. Any and all tags should point to the new location. My request is as simple as copy/paste.

@para-noid It currently takes only a few clicks to move a topic to the right place. This is something we have to do several times a day:
- Move Topic
- Select New Forum from a Drop List
- OK
Any additional steps to copy/paste links, then lock the old thread, triples the work involved.
The proposal to leave an expiring redirect could do it with the same three steps as the current method. Selecting an expiry period and redirect title or new thread title would add a couple more steps. However, these would be optional. One could simply set a default expiry period of 1 day, 3 days, or a week, and leave the redirect and moved thread titles unchanged.
