(History of) Vivaldi Feature Requests
-
Link selection would be cool.
-
Hi, so here is my arbitrary wishlist. I presume some of the entries are already in the roadmap and some might be nigh impossible, but I included everything just in case:
- Dragonfly,
- Unite,
- Optional borders (because I like to see the whole title http://puu.sh/fbgRZ/2a317c3872.png ),
- Synchronization settings and clear statement on all the privacy/security stuff,
- Mail client with RSS, CalDAV interface to go well with FastMail?
- Proper (O12-like) vivaldi:config
- Click to play plugin blocker (including HTML5 video?),
- Spellchecker,
- Image properties (resolution, metadata, number of frames…)
- Performance analysis for tabs, extensions, add-ons and plug-ins,
- Optional sandboxing,
- Option to delete all (new) cookies on exit,
- Narrower panel toggle,
- Powerful IRC client?,
- Somewhat powerful FTP client?
- Noscript,
- Easily executable "clean profile" instance
- User agent masking,
- Possibility to block elements / divs of specific name on specific site?,
- Something like "Info" from O12,
- Speed dial tuning,
- Detailed site loading progress bar (again, like O12, with speed, transfered data, etc),
- More mouse gestures,
- Detailed download window/tab with graphs, dates, download speed it finished with,
- ctrl+z to open last closed tab (yes I know ctrl+z is context sensitive),
- Tab subwindow arranging,
- Right click+mousewheel scroll for tab switching,
- "Reading" mode like in IE on WP… it takes the (I presume) biggest chunk of text on the page (an article and whatnot) and displays only that white on black background, which is I think very pleasant to the eyes (alternatively it could be black on white). I have no idea how difficult this is to do...
- Possibility to support the development via a subscription (sort of like Linus Tech Tips have) or something.
My background is quite obviously years of using Opera, since like version 6 or 7.
- Mouse gestures
- Themes and be able to customize
- Traditional menu bar (File, Edit, View, Bookmark, Tool and Help) like the one below. Add this as a option
Example:
Well, most gestures I use already work from what I can tell and the menu thing is possible right now as well ("Main menu type" in options).
-
-
Speed Dial Keyboard shortcuts: CTRL + 1 opens Dial 1, CTRL + 2 opens Dial 2 etc.
-
Mouse gestures: All of them
-
URLFILTER.INI Ad Blocking and the right-click Block Content… menu
-
S/MIME support in your Mail client
-
change default search engine
-
CTRL + B for "Paste and go"
-
When filling out forms, like this very forum editing window here, and I press Enter, the cursor vanishes. I have to click into the text field again to see it.
-
-
Need Extensions
-
I'd like to see hold right clik in back arrow below vivaldi icon to go back history page list and choise the page needed
-
Hi, Wish the best for real and MY Opera
Ok, I start with flaws,
""I know it's a TP""
New tab shortcut functions doesnt work such as : Ctrl+T, Ctrl+Shift+T
opening a new tab with mouse middle click is needed.
change the skin, i like it , but maybe it's not the case for everybody
Ctrl+Enter that completes the site name (.com) does not work…
that's it for now
~HOPE IT CRUSHES ALL THE OTHER BROWSERS~ -
Okay, for starters, what I really need is a bookmark bar (What used to be called a personal bar) and a way to import Opera 2x bookmarks. All of them, with folder structure.
And then I am free to stick with Vivaldi even when it's feature incomplete yet :).
-
I'd really like "Split View" option: have 2 sites open in one tab. E.g. on the left I can have a Jira issue open and on the right the page the issue is about.
-
It looks as if most things have already been requested, but I'll add a list of things that will be most important to me:
[ul]- Extension support
- Search directly from address bar, if what was entered is not a url
- Customize mouse gestures, rocker gestures & right-click scrolling through tabs
- Interface customization a la opera presto (i.e. drag & drop)
[/ul]
-
I can see it's a great browser for Opera12 users. I'm one of you. I'm really impressed with Vivaldi browser. Everything I need was already mentioned. So I will only repeat features I liked most and used most in O12, but first I want to thank you for what it already is. I like:
- Notes.
- Side panel.
- Disable images.
- Page actions.
- Speed dial.
- Mouse gestures.
- Switching tab by recently used order.
- All opened tabs visible (no scrolling like firefox).
- Delete button for each history record from auto-complete while typing address.
What I miss the most, they are must-have for me, that's why I'm O12 user still, together with things already implemented (above):
- Site specific preferences. Especially I want to disable cookies for everybody and then decide where I want enable site only or 3rd party as well. This is the hardest one…
Also I would like other options like referrer, user-css/js, etc. But user tracking options the most.
- Single key shortcut, for search I find it very comfortable: ".", Ctrl+G, Ctrl+Shift+G.
- Ctrl+Shift+V in address bar is "paste & go". I use IE as default for domain access to intranet.
- In context menu for selected text I would like to have "Go to web address" - as I would copy it, go to address bar and press Ctrl+Shift+V.
- Download manager - please add Save File Dialog. No need for flat design for it, native system window look is very ok.
- Right-click + wheel-scroll to switch tabs with all tabs listed (no preview, just titles + eventually address in status bar).
- Disable plugins, so I can be sure site will not execute flash ad or java applet. The best would be list of items requiring plugins, so I can enable plugin for 1 element only.
- Middle-click opens tab next to current one.
- Auto-refresh.
I would like to see below as well, I can live without it, even I use it quite often:
- O12 tab stacking with expand/collapse and drag&drop for tab or stack.
- Disable Javascript and other actions in customizable UI.
- Allow me to disable password manager. Well, it's not often, one time click, then forget and enjoy no pop-up :D.
- Disable tab preview.
- PageInfo panel with references to css and js files, code page etc.
- Links panel (all links in a page).
- Windows panel (active tabs).
- Restore last closed tab as tab-context menu item.
- Clear tab trash.
- Save page as one file.
- RSS reader.
- Content block.
Features below I like, but it's more like small details to me:
- Private tabs in same window. I can use another browser for private mode if there will be no site preferences.
- Context menu options within web sites: show image details, show background image, add note (on selected text).
- Tab loaded indicator. O12 has folded tab corner for it.
- O12 extended loading bar.
-
Really good start - it already feels a bit like old Opera, which I finally abandoned for Firefox. I'm looking forward to coming back, but not just yet.
For me, the main thing is the main browser window - let me just have a normal, windows-provided window with a normal title bar. Please. I don't want your red self-rendered thing, just normal menus and buttons like every other application.
-
Love it so far, but I would love it even more if:
- there was an expand stack button on tab stacks instead of the close button
- there was an option to set it so that if you middle-click a link with the same domain that it would automatically create a stack with both tabs in it (not sure if I explained that clearly
- you could clear the browser cache through the settings menu
-
Oh also (don't know how hard this would be to implement but) the option to mute a tab by clicking the speaker that shows up next to the close button

Tools >> Settings >> Appearance >> Unckeck "Color Tabs"
-
some (small?) things i would love to see…
- snyc for favourites, passwords, notes, addons..
- ui skinning and customization (add/remove buttons, further customization of search field i.e. in-site-searching)
- skinning and customization for the speed dial
- right click menu with site preferences and informations (settings, scripting, cookies.. like presto was)
- right click EXIF infos for pictures
- 'free' tabs with drag+drop (make a new window if dragged outside of the vivaldi main window)
- get rid of the space between tabs and the window top border. so i can simply move my mouse to the top screen and switch tabs.
- reenable smooth scrolling

But… Win7 has feature to maximize/unmaximize window by moving window to top edge of screen. Please make it user setting, I can live with having to customize it, so default can be as suggeste here. This space is very useful to grab window! Don't throw it away.

I agree with this. Lack of top border is one of the (many) reasons why I don't touch Chrome.

Great TP. I'm always pleased to check new browsers aimed for power users.
After using it for a day now, and reading this topic, I do have couple of thoughts - some of them already mentioned before:
1. I would like to see "Open new tab next to current tab" setting.
2. Session manager
3. Tabs to be like firefox not like chrome - meaning you see only like 10 tabs at once, and have to scroll for the others.
4. Right-click on "back" button = open history of "backs".
5. Cntl+, Cntl- to zoom in out, Cntl+0 to default
6. Cache refresh on ctrl+f5
7. Open new tab in background
8. Warning message before closing the browser with multiple tabs.
9. I think this should be number one - Lazy Tabs - but as you implement it as a browser and not an extension, you have more options - Let's say I have 30 tabs and they take 1500MB RAM. You can allow us to set highest memory value used and then unload tabs by time of last use, to allow to have only like 10 tabs loaded ( the only ones that will stay loaded longer are the pinned tabs - like youtube ). -
Paste and Go: It would be great if a "paste-and-go" feature is available on right-click. You paste a URL or search word onto the address bar, a tab, an existing page, or anywhere which isn't a textbox; and the browser will take you to the page or search Google with the word, without your hitting the return key.
[This thread (topic) is so big that it's practically impossible to know what's already requested and what's not. It would be nice if there is a "wish tracking system". ]

OK, after playing with the browser for two days (tried to use it as the main browser as much as possible), here's one more thing.
PLEASE, make the tab colour change optional. Not all sites have friendly colours, that sometimes causes a terrible high-contrast, eye raping situation.
My vision of ideal settings would be:
- as is
- same as Windows window colour (especially in Windows 8 where the colour can change automatically depending on the wallpaper)
- user defined colour.
