Shortcut for Move Tab to New Window
-
Dragging tabs on multiple monitors with Vivaldi is horrible. Most of the time you have something else open in another monitor. Dragging with the mouse instead opens the URL in whatever other software you have there (text editor or another browser), crashes Vivaldi or does something else in that program instead. (not happening with other browsers, they don't interact with other windows opens from other softwares while dragging a tab)
This also seems slow. So I instead right click on the tab, go to Move tab to and select New Window. Then on once its out, if I need it another Vivaldi instance, I drag it there slowly.
This is very annoying and time-consuming, to the point I find myself using other browsers for other tasks that I require this. The other browsers are snappy when it comes to moving tabs around, exploding and imploding tabs. Don't get me wrong. I love that you can do this with Vivaldi now, but the way this works is entirely not designed for power users.
You should have a simple keyboard shortcut to do this. I want only to press a keyboard shortcut when I'm on an existing tab, to move it out of Vivaldi into a new window. Instead of doing this with the right click selection or the mouse.

@terere Move tab to new window is an operation that can be assigned to a user-selectable key binding
vivaldi://settings/keyboard/
→ Tab →Move tab to new windowDetach Tab.
Pick your (not already used otherwise) favourite. There is an existing request to allow moving tabs between existing windows via shortcuts.

Pick your (not already used otherwise) favourite.I think I made this request some time ago on another topic, so maybe Vivaldi added it.
But I just checked and there is no "Move tab to new window" option under the keyboard settings under the Tab category.
Where exactly do you see this? Its not on my Vivaldi and I'm using the latest stable release.

@terere Sorry, retranslated local settings to English…
Original shortcurt name is Detach Tab… -
@terere It's under Keyboard/Tabs and it's called "Detach Tab."

I see, thank you
I will test this.
This is what I wanted. It seems Vivaldi heard me as I'm sure I asked this before last year.
A move to an existing window shortcut would also be nice but I guess that would be a bit more complicated as you would need to specify which Vivaldi Windows on which monitor. Maybe something like CTRL+ALT+1 (moves existing tab to current Vivaldi Windows on Monitor 1).

This request can be closed or marked as implemented. It works. Thank you guys!

Well, at least there are now enough correct answers.
Maybe they can be reused elswhere.
Yes, sorry, I do realize this is my fault. -
A mouse gesture can also be used to detach tabs. Make it one that is not too easy to execute by accident.
I use GestureDown, GestureRight, GestureUp.

I think I found a bug. I was downloading something and I only had 1 window with a single tab open. For some reason, I hit my keyboard shortcut assigned to this function and Vivaldi closed.
Yes, I know this is rather dumb. Why would you detach a tab when that is the only tab running...:)
But I guess I forgot that was the only instance running. I tested this again and without download Vivaldi just restarts but it just cut my long 20 minute download without a warning as it just closed without showing the warning box when a download is in progress.

I can't use them anymore because on the latest stable release, the ALT modifier key stopped working. I don't use a standard mouse but a rollermouse so holding right click while moving the cursor is rather awkward. This is why I used the ALT key pressed down when I did a mouse gesture but it does not work in the latest release anymore. In fact I used mouse gestures frequently but I was not aware detach tab can be done with a mouse gesture as well. Thanks for the tip.

A little discoverability issue is that under a tab context menu the name is "Move Tab to New Window" and the command name is quite different: "Detach Tab".

Move Tab to New Window
I submitted a bug report. Either the command should be renamed to "Move Tab to New Window" in the Keyboard shortcuts and mouse gestures, or the context menu should be renamed to "Detach Tab." IMO the former change would be better as it is more descriptive.
(VB-45264) Terminology: Move Tab to New Window = Detach Tab
