The state of web browsers in 2018

@varsha I hope that you can reach an agreement with the scientists behind ProtonVPN. Here's more information about them and their technology: https://protonvpn.com/about
https://protonvpn.com/secure-vpn https://protonvpn.com/blog/threat-model/ https://protonvpn.com/privacy-policy Thank you for doing wonderful things with Vivaldi! Five of my friends including myself are proud users of vivaldi.
-
unfortunately there is no usable browser that is still actively developed right now
2 may become worthwhile in the future, one is pretty much LTS of another one that got mutilated just like Opera [RIP] and there is also chromium... yeah -
This is good news, it's in the position it deserves, keep it up.
-
Great stuff! Not just enjoyable, interesting too. Or perhaps I mean not just interesting, enjoyable too. Both, anyway. I'm passing this on to my girlfriend who still thinks FF is great. I add my congratulations to all those already expressed!
-
Vivaldi is beautiful, but if we talk about privacy, much needs to be done. Firefox is much better at that, and I have no doubt about that.
-
A wonderful & thoroughly deserved accolade V-Team -- yay you.
As we say in the feature, it was a close race between Vivaldi and Chrome, but ultimately we opted for innovation over ubiquity. Vivaldi was one of the only browsers we reviewed that is actively looking forward and constantly adding useful new tools, rather than fixing things that should have worked properly in the first place. In our speed tests, Vivaldi and Chrome easily topped the chart, but we found Vivaldi used less memory than Google’s browser, which swung in its favour.
- Ha - that para is one in the eye for the various V naysayers who tend to come & go around here.
- Chrome? They voted for that dross in #2? IMO the incomprehensibility of that decision, sadly, tarnishes their #1 choice slightly... not due to any fault of V, but simply coz rating Chrome in their top three thereby denotes a pretty warped logic process. Big & popular has no automatic nexus with good. They were wise with #1, but dopey with #2.

I followed some of the links in the article. This one cracked me up ... so stupid it's hilarious.

Google Chrome is often preferred by people who consider themselves power users
-
@neltherion: Exactly!
-
@steffie: Notice that he writes "Chrome is often preferred by people who consider themselves power users" instead of "Chrome is often preferred by power users".
That's a significant difference... -
@neltherion Don't forget, before you slag it off, that if not for Chrome, there would be no Vivaldi, or it would be running on an inferior and slower rendering engine.
Chrome still scores higher than all other browsers including Vivaldi and Opera in the HTML5 Test
-
@pesala: Chrome or Chromium?

No is correct, do you know how many extensions you have to install to make it decent? It is not from all users, you have to be very power users.
-
Gz. got same hopes.
Just hope if it comes to mobile it'll either have good adblock like brave, good reader mode and night mode ;D. Or good extensions support.
Atm i'm stuck with samsung browser as it's only thing that has it all and isn't slow like ff.
-
Welldone.. though frankly no current browser on the market today deserves 5stars in features or customization anymore... maybe Firefox would have been deserving of 5stars in customization pre quantum crap... not anymore though.. and certainly wouldn't give vivaldi 5stars in performance either.. its startup speed is slower than chrome by a lot.. Still as far as current browsers go vivaldi is one of the better ones left... its not saying much but google have certainly had a major influence on turning everything into shit.

also people could develope extensions for Vivaldi's side bar.
For that there needs to be a side bar extensions API first.
Other than that: A small extensions store with extensions that are manually vetted would be really nice because there have been malware extensions in the chrome store in the past and I could bet there are still undiscovered ones.
... but that needs people who look into the extensions code because googles bots showed, that they are seemingly not capable to detect malicious behavior. Looking into the extensions code can be quite a tedious chore, because some of the extensions consist of many thousand lines of code. To do it right this process must be repeated after every extensions update to avoid stuff as happened in the chrome store, where extensions went rogue after owner changes and following updates.

A printed magazine? a printed magazine about browsers?... sounds like they are all into printed media business model in the year 95, ; )...

Some do not like to read magazines on the screen, they prefer paper lecture.
You know: Magazines, made out of paper, that is Reading without the need of electricity. It's in Swedish with subtitles in Spanish, but I think if you do not understand what they say it's pretty explicit XD

I can add nothing except that it's all true. I mean, what browser one could expected to be a winner when the quality rank considered, if not Vivaldi? Now, when I'm using it for a long time and can't use other browsers due to theirs lack of... everything, I can't imagine a guy leaving Vivaldi for Chrome, because he's more in control there, without laughing. There are no alternatives, in fact.
-
@gwen-dragon: yeah so convenient in an age where humans have so many spots without electricity right?! :)...
use of paper is so 2000 IMO.
