Oddities when using punctuation marks as search engine key
-
I regularly have to switch between different writing systems.
Unlike other characters, punctuation marks exist in any writing system.
That's why I prefer some of my search engines to have some punctuation mark as a key, so I have it available no matter in which writing system I currently am.So I have "?" as a key of my default search engine (startpage.com).
Sometimes I want to use another one (google.com), so I tried to set "??" for it.
While typing the query "?? something", the autocomplete shows indeed that "Search Google for something". But when I actually press Enter, I get results from startpage.com.On another computer I use "??" was correctly serving Google results. Until some time ago when it suddenly started serving startpage.com.
So my impression is there might be something in the installation that sometimes gets broken.
Do you have an idea where should I look in the config files to get that fixed?Meanwhile I've set "!" as a key for my second search engine, which at least works as expected.
(I had filed bug report for this, but I don't think anyone in Vivaldi is paying attention to it)
Btw I expected "?" to always be a key for the default search engine, whatever other key might be assigned for it, as this was the old Opera 12 behaviour. Alas this seems to be to much to expect/ask for

Your default engine is your default engine -- you don't need a shortcut for it. So if you have only 2 engines, keep one as the default and the other one with shortcut
?
. Otherwise I can confirm your bug. Btw, it seems like you picked an unlucky character,!!
seems to work if you use!
too, just like-
