Ask me anything: Jon von Tetzchner speaks to the community

@julioc1984: I went swimming indeed and it was cold, but also a lot of fun, until I had to end the swim due to an issue described in the original story.
Repeating the swim is unlikely. That being said, we try to be creative and have fun in out approach and we will continue to do so.
Thanks for the suggestion and make sure to share Vivaldi with all your friends!
-
@jon Thanks for answering me. I hope Vivaldi has a great and fruitful future.
Good luck in this new adventure! -
I know it's not going to happen, but at this point I'd be happy to pay Vivaldi for something.
I know making the browser payware is not sensible option, but heck I pay for a lot of software already, I wouldn't mind buying a kick-ass browser too.
Also, is it weird that my eyes joyfully watered when Jon talked about old Opera users?
-
@x4j7h32m I'd pay as well. I already make donations to internet content creators through services like PayPal and patreon (though I'm increasingly wary of both of those companies). I'd pay an optional tip for Vivaldi too. There's often talk of the Vivaldi store, but I don't need the trinkets and I would prefer the money be used directly.

Great interview - i really appreciate answering my question so circumspectly. TBH i never knew about the affiliate links and will start using them now
But also the other questions were great and well answered. For example the part of having the correct skill set available for an up coming feature and how to not force people to context switch was very insightful!
@Ayespy also did a really great job with ordering his questionnaire and always having really good follow up questions.
@Jon: The openness with which you answered the questions is really appreciated!
-
@arno_nym To be fair, @OlgaA catergorized and ordered the questions. There were three pages of them, which is why I worked from the list, as there's no way I would have remembered them all. I deleted one and added one. I saw no reason to re-order them. I did come up with all follow-ons extemporaneously, and all of the discussion was spontaneous. But hey! It was fun!
Interviews are not entirely foreign to me. I do them for my job.

It would be nice to have an option to download podcasts.
-
I may be missing something obvious, but is there an RSS URL for the podcast that one could use an app other than SoundCloud to listen to it?
-
Cool! Thank you Jon. And special thanks to Ayespy. Well done! (Cant't wait fpr M3 (with POP) btw.)
-
@digitrance I don't think you're missing anything. You can use an app like Audacity to record whatever is playing through your speakers, and save it as an MP3 file.
-
I approve, simply because Jon likes Stargate.

There’s a bug in SoundCloud, because https://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soundcloud:users:240570126/sounds.rss should work, but doesn’t list anything.

Maybe whoever controls Vivaldi’s official SoundCloud account should contact [email protected] about it.

For those whose English listening skills are weak I've transcribed the first part of the AMA.

@an_dz , Thank you
-
@stardust: Updated the permissions for these tracks now on our Soundcloud - download away!
-
@dantesoft: For some reason the RSS feed was disabled by default on these new uploads. I've enabled it now and will make sure to check on future tracks as well. Thanks for flagging it up!
-
@jonmc Thanks!
-
Wow! That must have been quite some work! Very nice of you!
-
@jonmc: Super, thanks; could you bug SoundCloud about their non-HTTPS URLs in the (granted, non-default) HTTPS feed, like
<atom:link href="http://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soundcloud:users:240570126/sounds.rss" rel="self" type="application/rss+xml"/> <atom:link href="http://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soundcloud:users:240570126/sounds.rss?before=395839869" rel="next" type="application/rss+xml"/> … <itunes:image href="http://i1.sndcdn.com/avatars-000238738074-o0mdpm-original.jpg"/> <url>http://i1.sndcdn.com/avatars-000238738074-o0mdpm-original.jpg</url>
PS: I don’t use iTunes, but presumably the feed’s
itunes:subtitle
description for it could be rephrased like “Vivaldi Browser’s official account” instead of the currently cropped “The official SoundCloud account for Vivaldi Brows…”.
