Sync is coming soon. Internally we have been using it for months while we fix issues. In the meantime, there are a number of extensions that can help you.
Anyways, we are working hard with getting sync out the door.

Sync will be nice, as will the email client (I'm excited but patient). I'm really looking forward to mobile and really hoping that I'll be able to access Facebook messenger within the browser without having to use the mobile basic site. Not that I won't use it either way...

Been using Vivaldi for a year or more. Playing around with Firefox now and been eyeing Cliqz for a while. I use Vivaldi on desktop and Brave on Android. I like how Cliqz blocks trackers and will soon have the Quantum performance gains. They also have an Android version with Sync. It lacks features however which I love in Vivaldi like native tab hibernation, and web panels. Thankfully Cliqz supports more search providers than Mozilla (Ecosia and StartPage). I'll definitely be giving Cliqz my secondary position, and we'll see from there.
Would love for Vivaldi to get video pop outs like Opera/Neon. Otherwise the mobile and sync work is the most important. Do wish Google would compete with Mozilla on performance.

Using Opera with Presto for many years, I had to switch to Firefox when the development was restarted. In FF, I had to use like 6 extensions though. Now that half of them are not working, I switched to Vivaldi and use a single extension for email notifications. There is still a long way to go, but I will probably stick with it. Firefox Quantum is certainly a great browser, but it is not for me. I rely on many special features like mouse gestures and I believe that having them build-in is much better solution. I am tired of syncing, updating, configuring and finding alternative extensions, because they stopped working. Having these features built-in is also a guarantee of certain quality, while many extensions can give you serious headaches.
I wish that Vivaldi team will once come with good old Opera with widely compatible render engine, which has been a dream of mine for a long time.

I was kind of hoping this would fix the random tab crash when right clicking, like for fixing a word with spellcheck. It's been an issue for a long time.
I've heard that it might be caused by extensions adding items to the right click context menu (like ublock origin), but even disabling them that option, it still caused random current tab just closing itself when right clicking. -
@mossman Been using it for a while now. M3 is shaping up nicely. We just want to make it a little better before we send it out, but a number of us have been using it as our default mailer for a fairly long time now.
-
@cynical13: Sync, mail and mobile are all being worked on and I am using all 3 at this time.
They still require some work, but we are getting there.

My main concern is that Vivaldi is running Chromium, Google's most popular spyware. I still have Vivaldi on my PC, but made Firefox my default browser... Haven't had any problems with extensions in Quantum... All the extensions I use work fine. At least I know I am not in any way making use of Google that way. For that reason, I am a Firefox convert, former Vivaldi user.
-
@omen_20: Vivaldi should just ditch Chromium... better privacy, better performance
-
@jon: Like I said sir, excited but patient. A lot of us appreciate all the hard work going into Vivaldi. But it's like being a kid before Christmas; I know there are some cool toys coming, I just have to wait for Santa Jon to deliver them to us good little girls and boys.

I love the way people think it's a simple task to just completely redesign and rebuild the entire software around a completely different core engine...
-
@cynical13 I know how you feel. We are just as eager to show you what we got. Just want to make sure it is good enough to be shipped out to you.
-
@axk Changing engines is a massive task. You never know what we will do in the future, but I think at this time we focus on other aspects of the browser.
-
After this post, i tried out the new firefox (have been using Vivaldi only for half a year, give or take a month). Compared speed, cpu, memory usage and vivaldi wins
(Firefox still has it's unique programmer features, but still) -
I am using Firefox as my main browser. Privacy and Security settings, more settings in about:config...
Firefox engine allows smooth scrolling, zooming, etc.
Love v57 improvements (I'm using minimum addons) -
As a second navigator I have changed FF with UR, (as third I use TOR)
-
Longtime Firefox power user -- even donated to Mozilla a few times. I use over 100 userscripts, dozens of add-ons, and custom dictionaries.
FF 57 completely trashed my workflows. Now FF is less extensible than Chrome.
Plus Firefox has been making bad design (and political) decisions for the last few years.Evaluating Opera and Vivaldi as my new principle browser. Alas, they both (and Chrome) seriously cripple extensions, but not as bad as FF 57.
Also Vivaldi has several annoying bugs which I may address in other threads/channels, if they're not already reported.
-
@brocka Vivaldi is in its infancy. Your patience will be rewarded.
-
@fenshamc: Sad to see you go. Just as a note, though: Although Vivaldi is making use of the Chromium engine for rendering, it doesn't mean all the tracking and alike comes with it. You know Vivaldi highly values your privacy and as soon as someone internally becomes aware of any way you could potentially be tracked, we're trying to cut the cord there. Meaning e.g. calls to Google services getting blocked.
So although nobody can ever guarantee you're 100% save, everybody here is doing their best at protecting you. And that mindset alone is what I personally love about Jon and the whole team around him.
