Reader mode configuration panel – Snapshot 1.11.880.3
-
Direct from Innovation House in Magnolia, the first Snapshot for 1.11 is here. We’ve added a new panel so you can tweak your Reader Mode settings on the fly, adjusting font, size and light/dark themes.

This is great to see. But I would suggest that rather than having a button for "serif" and "non-serif", To instead have a drop-down to allow a user to select a specific font.
Also, for me at least, pressing these font buttons doesn't actually do anything. Am I using them wrongly?
The rest, style, sizing options work well.
I feel as if having both a panel button with config but without the ability to turn the reading mode on and off might be confusing. Especially when a user might open the panel, try to turn it on, and not realise they have to look for the corresponding button hidden away in the address bar.

New snapshot, very fast! Thank you very much!

I don't care about Reader mode. Looks like the basics - misbehaving url suggestions are finally fixed.
Gonna update now!
-
Thanks Vivaldi team!

The position of the Reader View Panel icon seems odd to me. If it's a setting, then it should be in the Settings dialogue. If it's a panel, then why is not at the top after the history panel?
Logically, too, it should have a slot for assigning a keyboard shortcut in Settings.
It might work better if it was found in Settings, Webpages.
The buttons and themes work well enough for me.

Candid question : are there actually some users of the reader mode ?
Also, why the settings for the reader mode are not in the settings ? You'll add a new panel for each page action next ? It will feel crowded. And there is a sweet "Webpage" item in the settings...Also, the UA mention "Vivaldi/1.92.880.3". I believe there is something wrong here.
Oh, and the autocompletion is still not fixed. I don't want to go to a specific CPP file when I type "git".

I love the Reader Mode enhancements. Thank you.
-
@cqoicebordel: the 1.9x UA is currently a workaround for several sites, I guess
-
That fake UA it's getting ridiculous, really.
-
the instructions on how to access those settings are atrociously unclear
it wouldve been better to provide a few screenshots >< -
@hadden89: It seems so, but feel so weird. It shouldn't be activated on all of them, at least.

Maybe because we can see the changes made to the rendered page in real time when clicking buttons in the side panel? I had thought too they should logically be in settings but this does work.
-
@g_bartsch: When using the settings in a window, you can also see the changes in direct. Having them in the panel is counter intuitive. Or, all the settings should be accessible in the panels too.

I think it will change position in the future, because if the user having many web panels will have problems with the icon of the reading mode.

There must be a few . I know I make huge use of Reader Mode. Getting rid of page clutter probably speeds reading by 2 to 3 times not to mention how much easier it is. One cannot speed read a cluttered page. Well I can't anyway ..

Well, I am one! Some sites here in Brazil are usually polluted (unnecessary things), the reading mode makes it very clear what I want to read. I used an extension before, so Vivaldi added this feature natively, for me it was very good.
-
@Cqoicebordel I can agree with you. Maybe the position will change if enough people aren't happy with it here.
I'm so happy though to set the values. Now I need to read a bunch of articles.

That's not a problem when using the Settings dialogue. Try changing the UI Zoom, for example, the changes are visible immediately behind the dialogue.
